Book of Zechariah, Chapter 9
Zechariah 9 NWT - New World Translation Chapter 9 of Zechariah—New World Translation (NWT)
- ¶ A pronouncement:1
¶ “The word of Jehovah[a] is against the land of Haʹdrach, and Damascus2 is where it rests; for Jehovah[b] has an eye on earthling man3 and on all the tribes of Israel. - And Haʹmath4 itself will also border upon her; Tyre5 and Siʹdon,6 for she is very wise.7
- And Tyre proceeded to build a rampart for herself, and to pile up silver like dust and gold[c] like the mire of [the] streets.8
- Look! Jehovah[d] himself will dispossess her, and into the sea he will certainly strike down her military force;9 and in the fire she herself will be devoured.10
- Ashʹke·lon will see and get afraid; and as for Gaʹza, she will also feel very severe pains; Ekʹron11 also, because her looked-for hope12 will have to experience shame. And a king will certainly perish from Gaʹza, and Ashʹke·lon herself will not be inhabited.13
- And an illegitimate14 son will actually seat himself in Ashʹdod,15 and I shall certainly cut off the pride of the Phi·lisʹtine.16
- And I will remove his bloodstained things from his mouth and his disgusting things from between his teeth,17 and he himself also will certainly be left remaining for our God;[e] and he must become like a sheik[f]18 in Judah,19 and Ekʹron like the Jebʹu·site.20
- And I will encamp as an outpost for my house,21 so that there will be no one passing through and no one returning; and there will no more pass through them a taskmaster,22 for now I have seen [it] with my eyes.23
- ¶ “Be very joyful, O daughter of Zion.24 Shout in triumph,25 O daughter of Jerusalem. Look! Your king26 himself comes to you.27 He is righteous, yes, saved;[g]28 humble,[h]29 and riding upon an ass, even upon a full-grown animal the son of a she-ass.[i]30
- And I shall certainly cut off[j] [the] war chariot from Eʹphra·im and [the] horse from Jerusalem.31 And the battle bow32 must be cut off. And he will actually speak peace to the nations;33 and his rulership will be from sea to sea and from the River[k] to the ends[l] of [the] earth.34
- ¶ “Also, you, [O woman,][m] by the blood of your[n] covenant35 I will send your prisoners36 out of the pit in which there is no water.
- ¶ “Return to the stronghold,[o]37 YOU prisoners of the hope.38
¶ “Also, today [I am] telling [you], ‘I shall repay to you, [O woman,][p] a double portion.[q]39 - For I will tread as my [bow][r] Judah. The bow I will fill with Eʹphra·im, and I will awaken[s] your sons,40 O Zion, against your sons, O Greece,[t]41 and I will make you[u] as the sword of a mighty man.’[v]42
- And over them Jehovah himself will be seen,43 and his arrow will certainly go forth just like lightning.44 And on the horn[w] the Sovereign Lord Jehovah himself will blow,45 and he will certainly go with the windstorms of the south.[x]46
- Jehovah of armies himself will defend them, and they will actually devour47 and subdue the slingstones. And they will certainly drink48—be boisterous—as if there were wine; and they will actually become filled like the bowl, like the corners of [the] altar.49
- ¶ “And Jehovah their God[y] will certainly save them50 in that day like the flock of his people;51 for they will be as the stones of a diadem glittering over his[z] soil.52
- For O how [great] his goodness is,53 and how [great] his handsomeness is!54 Grain is what will make the young men thrive, and new wine the virgins.”55
