Chapter 1 of Romans—New World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Paul, a slave1 of Jesus Christ and called2 to be an apostle,3 separated to God’s good news,4
  2. which he promised aforetime through his prophets5 in the holy Scriptures,
  3. concerning his Son, who sprang from the seed[a] of David6 according to the flesh,7
  4. but who with power8 was declared[b] God’s Son9 according to the spirit10 of holiness by means of resurrection from the dead11—yes, Jesus Christ our Lord,
  5. through whom we[c] received undeserved kindness12 and an apostleship13 in order that there might be obedience of faith among all the nations14 respecting his name,
  6. among which [nations] YOU also are those called to belong to Jesus Christ—
  7. to all those who are in Rome as God’s beloved ones, called15 to be holy ones:[d]16
    ¶ May YOU have undeserved kindness and peace17 from God our Father and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.18
  8. ¶ First of all, I give thanks19 to my God through Jesus Christ concerning all of YOU, because YOUR faith is talked about20 throughout the whole world.
  9. For God, to whom I render sacred service[e] with my spirit in connection with the good news about his Son, is my witness21 of how without ceasing I always make mention of YOU in my prayers,22
  10. begging that if at all possible I may now at last be prospered in the will23 of God so as to come to YOU.
  11. For I am longing to see YOU,24 that I may impart some spiritual gift25 to YOU in order for YOU to be made firm;
  12. or, rather, that there may be an interchange of encouragement[f]26 among YOU, by each one through the other’s faith,27 both YOURS and mine.
  13. ¶ But I do not want YOU to fail to know, brothers,28 that I many times purposed to come to YOU,29 but I have been hindered until now, in order that I might acquire some fruitage30 also among YOU even as among the rest of the nations.
  14. Both to Greeks and to Barbarians,[g] both to wise31 and to senseless ones I am a debtor:
  15. so there is eagerness on my part to declare the good news32 also to YOU there in Rome.33
  16. For I am not ashamed34 of the good news; it is, in fact, God’s power35 for salvation to everyone having faith,36 to the Jew first[h]37 and also to the Greek;38
  17. for in it God’s righteousness39 is being revealed by reason of faith40 and toward faith, just as it is written: “But the righteous one—by means of faith he will live.”41
  18. ¶ For God’s wrath42 is being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness43 of men who are suppressing the truth44 in an unrighteous way,45
  19. because what may be known about God is manifest among them,46 for God made it manifest to them.47
  20. For his invisible48 [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s[i] creation onward,49 because they are perceived by the things made,50 even his eternal power51 and Godship,[j]52 so that they are inexcusable;53
  21. because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God nor did they thank him,54 but they became empty-headed55 in their reasonings and their unintelligent heart became darkened.56
  22. Although asserting they were wise, they became foolish57
  23. and turned the glory58 of the incorruptible God into something like the image59 of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed creatures and creeping things.60
  24. ¶ Therefore God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness,61 that their bodies62 might be dishonored among them,63
  25. even those who exchanged the truth64 of God for the lie65 and venerated and rendered sacred service to the creation rather than the One who created, who is blessed forever. Amen.[k]
  26. That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites,66 for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature;67
  27. and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female68 and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males,69 working what is obscene[l]70 and receiving in themselves the full recompense,71 which was due for their error.72
  28. ¶ And just as they did not approve of holding God in accurate knowledge,73 God gave them up to a disapproved mental state,74 to do the things not fitting,75
  29. filled as they were with all unrighteousness,76 wickedness,77 covetousness,78 badness,79 being full of envy,80 murder,81 strife,82 deceit,83 malicious disposition,84 being whisperers,85
  30. backbiters,86 haters of God, insolent,87 haughty,88 self-assuming,89 inventors of injurious things,90 disobedient to parents,91
  31. without understanding,92 false to agreements,[m]93 having no natural affection,94 merciless.95
  32. Although these know full well the righteous decree of God,96 that those practicing such things are deserving of death,97 they not only keep on doing them but also consent98 with those practicing them.

    When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

      The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
