- ¶ After this I saw four angels1 standing upon the four corners[a] of the earth, holding tight the four winds2 of the earth, that no wind might blow upon the earth or upon the sea or upon any tree.3
- And I saw another angel ascending from the sunrising,4 having a seal of [the] living God;5 and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea,
- saying: “Do not harm[b] the earth or the sea or the trees, until after we have sealed6 the slaves of our God in their foreheads.”7
- ¶ And I heard the number of those who were sealed,[c] a hundred and forty-four thousand,8 sealed out of every tribe9 of the sons of Israel:10
- ¶ Out of the tribe of Judah11 twelve thousand sealed;
¶ out of the tribe of Reuʹben12 twelve thousand;
¶ out of the tribe of Gad[d]13 twelve thousand; - ¶ out of the tribe of Ashʹer14 twelve thousand;
¶ out of the tribe of Naphʹta·li15 twelve thousand;
¶ out of the tribe of Ma·nasʹseh16 twelve thousand; - ¶ out of the tribe of Simʹe·on[e]17 twelve thousand;
¶ out of the tribe of Leʹvi18 twelve thousand;
¶ out of the tribe of Isʹsa·char19 twelve thousand; - ¶ out of the tribe of Zebʹu·lun20 twelve thousand;
¶ out of the tribe of Joseph21 twelve thousand;
¶ out of the tribe of Benjamin22 twelve thousand sealed.23 - ¶ After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd,24 which no man was able to number, out of all nations[f]25 and tribes and peoples26 and tongues,27 standing before the throne28 and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes;29 and there were palm branches30 in their hands.
- And they keep on crying with a loud voice, saying: “Salvation[g] [we owe] to our God,31 who is seated on the throne,32 and to the Lamb.”33
- ¶ And all the angels34 were standing around the throne and the elders[h]35 and the four living creatures,36 and they fell upon their faces before the throne and worshiped God,37
- saying: “Amen! The blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanksgiving and the honor and the power38 and the strength [be] to our God forever and ever. Amen.”[i]39
- ¶ And in response one of the elders40 said to me: “These who are dressed in the white robes,41 who are they and where did they come from?”
- So right away I said to him: “My lord, you are the one that knows.” And he said to me: “These are the ones that come out of the great tribulation,42 and they have washed their robes and made them white43 in the blood44 of the Lamb.
- That is why they are before45 the throne of God; and they are rendering him sacred service[j]46 day and night in his temple;[k] and the One seated on the throne47 will spread his tent48 over them.
- They will hunger no more nor thirst anymore, neither will the sun beat down upon them nor any scorching heat,49
- because the Lamb,50 who is in the midst of the throne, will shepherd51 them, and will guide them to fountains of waters52 of life. And God will wipe out every tear from their eyes.”53
