Book of Psalms, No. 80
Psalms 80 NWT - New World TranslationNo. 80 of the Psalms—New World Translation (NWT)
- ¶ O Shepherd of Israel, do give ear,1
You who are conducting Joseph just like a flock.2
O you who are sitting upon the cherubs,3 do beam forth.4 - ¶ Before Eʹphra·im and Benjamin and Ma·nasʹseh do rouse up your mightiness,5
And do come to our salvation.6 - ¶ O God, bring us back;7
And light up your face, that we may be saved.8 - ¶ O Jehovah God of armies, how long must you fume against the prayer of your people?9
- ¶ You have made them eat the bread of tears,10
And you keep making them drink tears upon tears in [great] measure.[a]11 - ¶ You set us for strife to our neighbors,12
And our very enemies keep deriding as they please.13 - ¶ O God of armies,[b] bring us back;14
And light up your face, that we may be saved.15 - ¶ You proceeded to make a vine depart from Egypt.16
You kept driving out the nations, that you might plant it.17 - ¶ You made a clearing before it,18 that it might take root and fill the land.19
- ¶ The mountains were covered with its shadow,
And the cedars of God with its boughs.20 - ¶ It gradually sent forth its boughs as far as the sea,21
And to the River[c] its twigs.22 - ¶ Why have you broken down its stone walls,23
And [why] have all those passing by on the road plucked at it?24 - ¶ A boar out of the woods[d] keeps eating it away,25
And the animal throngs of the open field keep feeding upon it.26 - ¶ O God of armies,[e] return,[f] please;27
Look down from heaven and see and take care of this vine,28 - ¶ And the stock[g] that your right hand has planted,29
And [look] upon the son[h] whom you have made strong for yourself.30 - ¶ It is burned with fire, cut off.31
From the rebuke of your face they perish.32 - ¶ Let your hand prove to be upon the man[i] of your right hand,33
Upon the son of mankind[j] whom you have made strong for yourself,34 - ¶ And we shall not turn back from you.35
May you preserve us alive, that we may call upon your own name.36 - ¶ O Jehovah God of armies,[k] bring us back;37
Light up your face, that we may be saved.38
