Book of Psalms, No. 69
Psalms 69 NWT - New World TranslationNo. 69 of the Psalms—New World Translation (NWT)
- ¶ Save me, O God, for the waters have come clear to the soul.[a]1
- ¶ I have sunk down in deep mire, where there is no standing ground.2
I have come into profound waters,
And a flowing stream[b] itself has washed me away.3 - ¶ I have become tired by my calling out;4
My throat has become hoarse.
My eyes have failed while waiting for my God.5 - ¶ Those hating me without a cause have become even more than the hairs of my head.6
Those bringing me to silence, being my enemies for no reason, have become numerous.7
What I had not taken by robbery I then proceeded to give back. - ¶ O God, you yourself have come to know my foolishness,
And from you my own guiltiness has not been hidden.8 - ¶ O may those hoping in you not be ashamed because of me,9
O Sovereign Lord, Jehovah of armies.10
¶ O may those seeking you not be humiliated because of me,11
O God of Israel.12 - ¶ For on your account I have borne reproach,13
Humiliation has covered my face.14 - ¶ I have become one estranged to my brothers,15
And a foreigner to the sons of my mother.16 - ¶ For sheer zeal for your house has eaten me up,17
And the very reproaches of those reproaching you have fallen upon me.18 - ¶ And I proceeded to weep with the fasting of my soul,19
But it came to be for reproaches to me.20 - ¶ When I made sackcloth my clothing,
Then I became to them a proverbial saying.21 - ¶ Those sitting in the gate began concerning themselves about me,22
And [I was] the subject of the songs of drinkers of intoxicating liquor.23 - ¶ But as for me, my prayer was to you, O Jehovah,[c]24
At an acceptable time, O God.25
In the abundance of your loving-kindness answer me with the truth of salvation by you.26 - ¶ Deliver me from the mire, that I may not sink down.27
O may I be delivered from those hating me28 and from the deep waters.29 - ¶ O may not the flowing stream of waters wash me away,30
Nor the depth swallow me up,
Nor the well close its mouth over me.31 - ¶ Answer me, O Jehovah, for your loving-kindness is good.32
According to the multitude of your mercies turn to me,33 - ¶ And do not conceal your face from your servant.34
Because I am in sore straits, answer me quickly.35 - ¶ Do come near to my soul, reclaim it;36
On account of my enemies redeem me.37 - ¶ You yourself have come to know my reproach and my shame and my humiliation.38
All those showing hostility to me are in front of you.39 - ¶ Reproach itself has broken my heart, and [the wound] is incurable.40
And I kept hoping for someone to show sympathy, but there was none;41
And for comforters, but I found none.42 - ¶ But for food[d] they gave [me] a poisonous plant,[e]43
And for my thirst they tried to make me drink vinegar.44 - ¶ Let their table before them become a trap,45
And what is for their welfare a snare.46 - ¶ Let their eyes become darkened so as not to see;47
And cause their very hips to wobble constantly.48 - ¶ Pour out upon them your denunciation,49
And may your own burning anger overtake them.50 - ¶ Let their walled camp become desolate;51
In their tents may there come to be no dweller.52 - ¶ For the one whom you yourself have struck they have pursued,53
And the pains of those pierced by you they keep recounting. - ¶ Do give error upon their error,54
And may they not come into your righteousness.55 - ¶ Let them be wiped out of the book of the living ones,[f]56
And with the righteous ones may they not be written in.57 - ¶ But I am afflicted and aching.58
May your own salvation, O God, protect me.59 - ¶ I will praise the name of God[g] with song,60
And I will magnify him with thanksgiving.61 - ¶ This will also be more pleasing to Jehovah[h] than a bull,62
Than a young bull displaying horns, splitting the hoof.63 - ¶ The meek ones will certainly see [it]; they will rejoice.64
YOU who are seeking God, let YOUR heart also keep alive.65 - ¶ For Jehovah is listening to the poor ones,66
And he will indeed not despise his very own prisoners.[i]67 - ¶ Let heaven and earth praise him,68
The seas and everything moving about in them.69 - ¶ For God himself will save Zion70
And will build the cities of Judah;71
And they will certainly dwell there and take possession of it.[j]72 - ¶ And the offspring[k] of his servants themselves will inherit it,73
And those loving his name will be the ones to reside in it.74
