Book of Psalms, No. 50
Psalms 50 NWT - New World TranslationNo. 50 of the Psalms—New World Translation (NWT)
- ¶ The Divine One,1 God, Jehovah,[a]2 has himself spoken,3
And he proceeds to call the earth,[b]4
From the rising of the sun until its setting.5 - ¶ Out of Zion, the perfection of prettiness,6 God himself has beamed forth.7
- ¶ Our God will come and cannot possibly keep silent.[c]8
Before him there devours a fire,9
And all around him it has become exceedingly stormy weather.10 - ¶ He calls to the heavens above and to the earth11
So as to execute judgment on his people:12 - ¶ “Gather to me my loyal ones,13
Those concluding[d] my covenant[e] over sacrifice.”14 - ¶ And the heavens tell of his righteousness,15
For God himself is Judge.[f]16 Seʹlah. - ¶ “Do listen, O my people, and I will speak,17
O Israel, and I will bear witness against you.[g]18
I am God, your God.19 - ¶ Not concerning your sacrifices do I reprove you,20
Nor [concerning] your whole burnt offerings [that are] in front of me constantly.21 - ¶ I will not take out of your house a bull,22
Out of your pens he-goats. - ¶ For to me belongs every wild animal of the forest,23
The beasts upon a thousand mountains.24 - ¶ I well know every winged creature of the mountains,25
And the animal throngs of the open field are with me.26 - ¶ If I were hungry, I would not say it to you;
For to me the productive land[h]27 and its fullness belong.28 - ¶ Shall I eat the flesh of powerful [bulls],29
And the blood of he-goats shall I drink?30 - ¶ Offer thanksgiving as your sacrifice to God,31
And pay to the Most High your vows;32 - ¶ And call me in the day of distress.33
I shall rescue you, and you will glorify34 me.” - ¶ But to the wicked one God will have to say:35
“What right do you have to enumerate my regulations,36
And that you may bear my covenant[i] in your mouth?37 - ¶ Why, you—you have hated discipline,38
And you keep throwing my words behind you.39 - ¶ Whenever you saw a thief, you were even pleased[j] with him;40
And your sharing was with adulterers.41 - ¶ Your mouth you have let loose to what is bad,42
And your tongue you keep attached to deception.43 - ¶ You sit [and] speak against your own brother,44
Against the son of your mother you give away a fault.45 - ¶ These things you have done, and I kept silent.46
You imagined that I would positively become like you.47
I am going to reprove you,48 and I will set things in order before your eyes.49 - ¶ Understand this, please, YOU forgetters of God,[k]50
That I may not tear [YOU] to pieces without there being any deliverer.51 - ¶ The one offering thanksgiving as his sacrifice is the one that glorifies me;52
And as for the one keeping a set way,
I will cause him to see salvation by God.”[l]53
