Book of Psalms, No. 45
Psalms 45 NWT - New World TranslationNo. 45 of the Psalms—New World Translation (NWT)
- ¶ My heart has become astir with a goodly matter.1
I am saying: “My works are concerning a king.”2
May my tongue be the stylus3 of a skilled copyist.4 - ¶ You are indeed more handsome than the sons of men.[a]5
Charm has been poured out upon your lips.6
That is why God[b] has blessed you to time indefinite.7 - ¶ Gird your sword8 upon [your][c] thigh, O mighty one,[d]9
[With] your dignity and your splendor.10 - ¶ And in your splendor go on to success;11
Ride in the cause of truth and humility [and] righteousness,12
And your right hand will instruct you in fear-inspiring things.13 - ¶ Your arrows are sharp—under you peoples keep falling14—
In the heart of the enemies of the king.15 - ¶ God is your throne[e] to time indefinite, even forever;16
The scepter of your kingship is a scepter of uprightness.17 - ¶ You have loved righteousness18 and you hate wickedness.19
That is why God, your God,20 has anointed21 you[f] with the oil of exultation22 more than your partners.23 - ¶ All your garments are myrrh and aloeswood [and] cassia;24
Out from the grand ivory25 palace[g] stringed instruments themselves have made you rejoice. - ¶ The daughters26 of kings are among your precious women.[h]
The queenly consort27 has taken her stand at your right hand in gold of Oʹphir.28 - ¶ Listen, O daughter, and see, and incline your ear;
And forget your people and your father’s house.29 - ¶ And the king will long for your prettiness,30
For he is your lord,[i]31
So bow down to him.32 - ¶ The daughter of Tyre also with a gift33—
The rich ones of the people will soften your[j] own face.34 - ¶ The king’s daughter is all glorious within [the house];35
Her clothing is with settings of gold. - ¶ In woven apparel she will be brought to the king.36
The virgins in her train as her companions are being brought in to you.37 - ¶ They will be brought with rejoicing and joyfulness;
They will enter into the palace of the king. - ¶ In place of your[k] forefathers38 there will come to be your sons,39
Whom you will appoint as princes[l] in all the earth.40 - ¶ I will make mention of your[m] name throughout all generations to come.41
That is why peoples themselves will laud you to time indefinite, even forever.
