Book of Psalms, No. 42
Psalms 42 NWT - New World TranslationNo. 42 of the Psalms—New World Translation (NWT)
- ¶ As the hind that longs for the water streams,
So my very soul longs for you, O God.[a]1 - ¶ My soul indeed thirsts for God,2 for the living God.[b]3
When shall I come and appear [before][c] God?4 - ¶ To me my tears have become food day and night,5
While [they][d] say to me all day long: “Where is your God?”6 - ¶ These things I will remember, and I will pour out my soul within me.7
For I used to pass along with the throng,
I used to walk slowly before them to the house of God,[e]8
¶ With the voice of a joyful cry and thanksgiving,9
Of a crowd celebrating a festival.10 - ¶ Why are you in despair, O my soul,11
And why are you boisterous within me?12
¶ Wait for God,13
For I shall yet laud him as the grand salvation[f] of my person.[g]14 - ¶ O my God,[h] within me my very soul is in despair.15
That is why I remember you,16
¶ From the land of Jordan and the peaks of Herʹmon,[i]17
From the little mountain.[j]18 - ¶ Watery deep to watery deep[k] is calling
At the sound of your (water-) spouts.[l]
¶ All your breakers and your waves19—
Over me they have passed.20 - ¶ By day Jehovah will command his loving-kindness,[m]21
And by night his song will be with me;22
There will be prayer to the God of my life.[n]23 - ¶ I will say to God my crag:24
“Why have you forgotten me?25
Why do I walk sad because of the oppression of the enemy?”26 - ¶ With murder against my bones those showing hostility to me have reproached me,27
While they say to me all day long: “Where is your God?”28 - ¶ Why are you in despair, O my soul,29
And why are you boisterous within me?30
¶ Wait for God,31
For I shall yet laud him as the grand salvation of my person[o] and as my God.[p]32
