Book of Psalms, No. 35
Psalms 35 NWT - New World TranslationNo. 35 of the Psalms—New World Translation (NWT)
- ¶ Do conduct my case, O Jehovah,[a] against my opponents;1
War against those warring against me.2 - ¶ Take hold of buckler and large shield,3
And do rise up in assistance of me,4 - ¶ And draw spear and double ax to meet those pursuing me.5
Say to my soul: “I am your salvation.”6 - ¶ May those be shamed and humiliated who are hunting for my soul.7
May those be turned back and be abashed who are scheming calamity for me.8 - ¶ May they become like chaff before the wind,9
And let Jehovah’s angel be pushing [them] along.10 - ¶ Let their way become darkness and slippery places,11
And let Jehovah’s angel be pursuing them. - ¶ For without cause they have hid for me their netted pit;12
Without cause they have dug it for my soul.[b]13 - ¶ Let ruin come upon him without his knowing,14
And let his own net that he hid catch him;15
With ruin let him fall into it.16 - ¶ But let my own soul be joyful in Jehovah;17
Let it exult in his salvation.18 - ¶ Let all my bones themselves say:19
“O Jehovah, who is there like you,20
¶ Delivering the afflicted one from one stronger than he is,21
And the afflicted and poor one from the one robbing him?”22 - ¶ Violent witnesses rise up;23
What I have not known they ask me.24 - ¶ They reward me with bad for good,25
Bereavement to my soul.26 - ¶ As for me, when they became ill, my clothing was sackcloth,27
With fasting I afflicted my soul,28
And upon my bosom my own prayer would return.29 - ¶ As for a companion, as for a brother of mine,30
I walked about like one mourning for a mother.31
Saddened, I bowed down. - ¶ But at my limping they rejoiced and gathered together;32
They gathered together against me,33
¶ Striking [me] down when I did not know it;34
They ripped [me] to pieces and did not keep silent.35 - ¶ Among the apostate mockers for a cake[c]36
There was a grinding[d] of their teeth even against me.37 - ¶ O Jehovah,[e] how long will you keep seeing [it]?38
Do bring back my soul from their ravages,39
Even my only one[f]40 from the maned young lions. - ¶ I will laud you in the big congregation;[g]41
Among a numerous people I shall praise you.42 - ¶ O may those who for no reason are my enemies not rejoice over me;43
As for those hating me without cause, let them not wink the eye.44 - ¶ For it is not peace that they speak;45
But against the quiet ones of the earth
Things of deception they keep scheming.46 - ¶ And they open wide their mouth even against me.47
They have said: “Aha! Aha! our eye has seen [it].”48 - ¶ You have seen, O Jehovah.[h]49 Do not keep silent.[i]50
O Jehovah,[j] do not keep yourself far from me.51 - ¶ Do arouse yourself[k] and awake to my judgment,52
O my God, even Jehovah,[l] to my case at law.53 - ¶ Judge me according to your righteousness, O Jehovah[m] my God,54
And may they not rejoice over me.55 - ¶ O may they not say in their heart: “Aha, our soul!”[n]56
May they not say: “We have swallowed him up.”57 - ¶ Let those be ashamed and abashed all together58
Who are joyful at my calamity.59
Let those be clothed with shame60 and humiliation who are assuming great airs against me.61 - ¶ Let those cry out joyfully and rejoice who are delighting in my righteousness,62
And let them say constantly:63
“Let Jehovah[o] be magnified, who takes delight in the peace of his servant.”64 - ¶ And let my own tongue utter in an undertone your righteousness,65
All day long your praise.66
