Book of Psalms, No. 31
Psalms 31 NWT - New World Translation No. 31 of the Psalms—New World Translation (NWT)
- ¶ In you, O Jehovah,[a] have I taken refuge.1
O may I never be ashamed.2
In your righteousness provide escape for me.3 - ¶ Incline to me your ear.4
Deliver me speedily.5
¶ Become for me a rocky stronghold,6
A house of strongholds to save me.7 - ¶ For you are my crag and my stronghold;8
And for the sake of your name9 you will lead me and conduct me.10 - ¶ You will bring me out of the net that they have hidden for me,11
For you are my fortress.12 - ¶ Into your hand I entrust my spirit.13
You have redeemed me,14 O Jehovah[b] the God of truth.[c]15 - ¶ I do hate those paying regard to worthless, vain idols;[d]16
But as for me, in Jehovah[e] I do trust.17 - ¶ I will be joyful and rejoice in your loving-kindness,[f]18
In that you have seen my affliction;19
You have known about the distresses of my soul,20 - ¶ And you have not surrendered me into the hand of the enemy.21
You have made my feet stand in a roomy place.22 - ¶ Show me favor, O Jehovah,[g] for I am in sore straits.23
With vexation my eye has become weak,24 my soul and my belly.25 - ¶ For with grief my life has come to an end,26
And my years in sighing.27
¶ Because of my error my power has stumbled,28
And my very bones have become weak.29 - ¶ From the standpoint of all those showing hostility to me30 I have become a reproach,31
And to my neighbors very much so,32
¶ And a dread to my acquaintances.33
When seeing me out of doors, they have fled from me.34 - ¶ Like someone dead [and] not in the heart, I have been forgotten;35
I have become like a damaged[h] vessel;36 - ¶ For I have heard the bad report by many,37
Fright being on all sides.38
¶ When they mass together as one against me,39
It is to take away my soul[i] that they do scheme.40 - ¶ But I—in you I have put my trust, O Jehovah.41
I have said: “You are my God.”[j]42 - ¶ My times are in your hand.43
Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those pursuing me.44 - ¶ Do cause your face to shine upon your servant.45
Save me in your loving-kindness.46 - ¶ O Jehovah, may I not be ashamed, for I have called on you.47
May the wicked ones be ashamed;48
May they keep silent in Sheʹol.49 - ¶ May false lips become speechless,50
That are speaking against the righteous one,51 unrestrainedly in haughtiness and contempt.52 - ¶ How abundant your goodness is,53 which you have treasured up for those fearing you!54
[Which] you have rendered to those taking refuge in you,
In front of the sons of men.[k]55 - ¶ You will conceal them in the secret place of your person[l]56
From the banding together of men.[m]57
You will hide them in your booth from the quarreling of tongues.58 - ¶ Blessed be Jehovah,[n]59
For he has rendered wonderful loving-kindness60 to me in a city under stress.61 - ¶ As for me, I said when I became panicky:62
“I shall certainly be exterminated from in front of your eyes.”63
Surely you have heard the voice of my entreaties when I cried to you for help.64 - ¶ O love Jehovah,[o] all YOU loyal ones of his.65
The faithful ones Jehovah[p] is safeguarding,66
But he is rewarding exceedingly anyone showing haughtiness.67 - ¶ Be courageous, and may YOUR heart be strong,68
All YOU who are waiting for Jehovah.[q]69
