- ¶ Jehovah is my light1 and my salvation.2
Of whom shall I be in fear?3
¶ Jehovah is the stronghold of my life.4
Of whom shall I be in dread?5 - ¶ When the evildoers approached against me to eat up my flesh,6
They being my adversaries and my enemies personally,7
They themselves stumbled and fell.8 - ¶ Though against me an encampment should pitch tent,9
My heart will not fear.10
¶ Though against me war should rise,11
Even then I shall be trusting.12 - ¶ One thing I have asked from Jehovah13—
It is what I shall look for,14
That I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life,15
¶ To behold the pleasantness of Jehovah16
And to look with appreciation upon his temple.[a]17 - ¶ For he will hide me in his covert in the day of calamity;18
He will conceal me in the secret place of his tent;19
High on a rock he will put me.20 - ¶ And now my head will be high above my enemies all around me;21
And I will sacrifice at his tent sacrifices of joyful shouting;22
I will sing and make melody to Jehovah.23 - ¶ Hear, O Jehovah, when I call with my voice,24
And show me favor and answer me.25 - ¶ Concerning you my heart has said: “Seek to find my face,26 YOU people.”
Your face, O Jehovah, I shall seek to find.27 - ¶ Do not conceal your face from me.28
Do not in anger turn your servant away.29
¶ My assistance you must become.30
Do not forsake me and do not leave me, O my God of salvation.31 - ¶ In case my own father and my own mother did leave me,32
Even Jehovah himself would take me up.33 - ¶ Instruct me, O Jehovah, in your way,34
And lead me in the path of uprightness on account of my foes. - ¶ Do not give me over to the soul of my adversaries;35
For against me false witnesses have risen up,36
And he who launches forth violence.37 - ¶ If I had not[b] had faith in seeing the goodness of Jehovah in the land of those alive38—!
- ¶ Hope in Jehovah;39 be courageous and let your heart be strong.40
Yes, hope in Jehovah.41
