Book of Psalms, No. 22
Psalms 22 NWT - New World Translation No. 22 of the Psalms—New World Translation (NWT)
- ¶ My God, my God, why have you left me?[a]1
[Why are you] far from saving me,2
[From] the words of my roaring?[b]3 - ¶ O my God,[c] I keep calling by day, and you do not answer;4
And by night, and there is no silence on my part.5 - ¶ But you are holy,6
Inhabiting the praises of Israel.7 - ¶ In you our fathers trusted;8
They trusted, and you kept providing them with escape.9 - ¶ To you they cried out,10 and they got away safe;11
In you they trusted, and they did not come to shame.12 - ¶ But I am a worm,13 and not a man,[d]
A reproach to men[e] and despicable to the people.14 - ¶ As for all those seeing me, they hold me in derision;15
They keep opening their mouths wide,[f] they keep wagging [their] head:16 - ¶ “He committed himself[g] to Jehovah.17 Let Him provide him with escape!18
Let him deliver him, since he has taken delight in him!”19 - ¶ For you were the One drawing me forth from the belly,20
The One making me trust while upon the breasts of my mother.21 - ¶ Upon you I have been thrown from the womb;22
From the belly of my mother you have been my God.[h]23 - ¶ Do not keep far off from me, because distress is nearby,24
Because there is no other helper.25 - ¶ Many young bulls have surrounded me;26
The powerful ones of Baʹshan themselves have got around me.27 - ¶ They have opened against me their mouth,28
As a lion tearing in pieces and roaring.29 - ¶ Like water I have been poured out,30
And all my bones have been separated from one another.31
¶ My heart has become like wax;32
It has melted deep in my inward parts.33 - ¶ My power[i] has dried up just like a fragment of earthenware,34
And my tongue is made to stick to my gums;[j]35
And in the dust of death you are setting me.36 - ¶ For dogs have surrounded me;37
The assembly of evildoers themselves have enclosed me.38
Like a lion [they are at] my hands and my feet.[k]39 - ¶ I can count all my bones.40
They themselves look, they gaze upon me.41 - ¶ They apportion my garments among themselves,42
And upon my clothing they cast lots.43 - ¶ But you, O Jehovah, O do not keep far off.44
O you my strength,45 do make haste to my assistance.46 - ¶ Do deliver from the sword my soul,47
My only one[l] from the very paw of the dog;48 - ¶ Save me from the mouth of the lion,49
And from the horns of wild bulls you must answer [and save] me.50 - ¶ I will declare your name51 to my brothers;52
In the middle of the congregation[m] I shall praise you.53 - ¶ YOU fearers of Jehovah, praise him!54
All YOU the seed of Jacob, glorify him!55
And be frightened at him, all YOU the seed of Israel.56 - ¶ For he has neither despised57
Nor loathed the affliction of the afflicted one;58
¶ And he has not concealed his face from him,59
And when he cried to him for help he heard.60 - ¶ From you my praise will be in the large congregation;61
My vows I shall pay in front of those fearing him.62 - ¶ The meek ones will eat and be satisfied;63
Those seeking him will praise Jehovah.64
May YOUR hearts[n] live forever.65 - ¶ All the ends of the earth will remember and turn back to Jehovah.66
And all the families of the nations will bow down before you.67 - ¶ For the kingship belongs to Jehovah,68
And he is dominating the nations.69 - ¶ All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and will bow down;70
Before him all those going down to the dust will bend down,71
And no one will ever preserve his own soul[o] alive.72 - ¶ A seed[p] itself will serve him;73
It will be declared concerning Jehovah[q] to the generation.74 - ¶ They will come and tell of his righteousness75
To the people that is to be born, that he[r] has done [this].76
