Chapter 17 of ProverbsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Better is a dry piece of bread with which there is quietness1 than a house full of the sacrifices of quarreling.2
  2. ¶ A servant that is showing insight will rule over the son who is acting shamefully,3 and in among the brothers he will have a share of the inheritance.4
  3. ¶ The refining[a] pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,5 but Jehovah is the examiner of hearts.6
  4. ¶ The evildoer is paying attention to the lip of hurtfulness.7 A falsifier[b] is giving ear to the tongue causing adversities.8
  5. ¶ He that is holding the one of little means in derision has reproached his Maker.9 He that is joyful at [another’s] disaster will not be free from punishment.10
  6. ¶ The crown of old men is the grandsons,11 and the beauty of sons is their fathers.12
  7. ¶ For anyone senseless the lip of uprightness is not fitting.13 How much less so for a noble the lip of falsehood!14
  8. ¶ The gift is a stone winning favor in the eyes of its grand owner.[c]15 Everywhere that he turns he has success.16
  9. ¶ The one covering over transgression is seeking love,17 and he that keeps talking about a matter is separating those familiar with one another.18
  10. ¶ A rebuke works deeper in one having understanding19 than striking a stupid one a hundred times.20
  11. ¶ Only rebellion is what the bad one keeps seeking,21 and cruel is the messenger that is sent against him.22
  12. ¶ Let there be an encountering by a man of a bear bereaved of its cubs23 rather than anyone stupid in his foolishness.24
  13. ¶ As for anyone repaying bad for good,25 bad will not move away from his house.26
  14. ¶ The beginning of contention is as one letting out waters;27 so before the quarrel has burst forth, take your leave.28
  15. ¶ Anyone pronouncing the wicked one righteous29 and anyone pronouncing the righteous one wicked30—even both of them are something detestable to Jehovah.31
  16. ¶ Why is it that there is in the hand of a stupid one the price to acquire wisdom,32 when he has no heart?[d]33
  17. ¶ A true companion is loving all the time,34 and is a brother that is born for when there is distress.[e]35
  18. ¶ A man that is wanting in heart[f] shakes hands,[g]36 going full surety before his companion.37
  19. ¶ Anyone loving transgression is loving a struggle.38 Anyone making his entryway high is seeking a crash.39
  20. ¶ He that is crooked at heart will not find good,40 and he that is turned around in his tongue will fall into calamity.41
  21. ¶ Anyone becoming father to a stupid child—it is a grief to him;42 and the father of a senseless child does not rejoice.43
  22. ¶ A heart that is joyful does good as a curer,[h]44 but a spirit that is stricken makes the bones dry.45
  23. ¶ One who is wicked will take even a bribe from the bosom46 to bend the paths of judgment.47
  24. ¶ Wisdom is before the face of the understanding one,48 but the eyes of the stupid one are at the extremity of the earth.49
  25. ¶ A stupid son is a vexation to his father50 and a bitterness to her that gave him birth.51
  26. ¶ Furthermore, the laying of a fine upon the righteous one is not good.52 To strike nobles is against what is upright.53
  27. ¶ Anyone holding back his sayings is possessed of knowledge,54 and a man of discernment is cool of spirit.55
  28. ¶ Even anyone foolish, when keeping silent, will be regarded as wise;56 anyone closing up his own lips, as having understanding.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
