Chapter 31 of NumbersNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Jehovah then spoke to Moses, saying:
  2. “Take vengeance1 for the sons of Israel upon the Midʹi·an·ites.2 Afterward you will be gathered to your people.”3
  3. ¶ So Moses spoke to the people, saying: “Equip[a] men from among YOU for the army, that they may serve against Midʹi·an to execute Jehovah’s vengeance upon Midʹi·an.4
  4. A thousand of each tribe of all the tribes of Israel YOU will send into the army.”
  5. Accordingly from the thousands5 of Israel a thousand were assigned of a tribe, twelve thousand equipped for the army.6
  6. ¶ Then Moses sent them out, a thousand of each tribe, to the army, them and Phinʹe·has7 the son of El·e·aʹzar the priest to the army, and the holy utensils and the trumpets8 for blowing calls were in his hand.
  7. And they went waging war against Midʹi·an, just as Jehovah had commanded Moses, and they proceeded to kill every male.9
  8. And they killed the kings of Midʹi·an along with the others slain, namely, Eʹvi and Reʹkem and Zur and Hur and Reʹba, the five kings of Midʹi·an;10 and they killed Baʹlaam11 the son of Beʹor with the sword.
  9. But the sons of Israel carried off the women of Midʹi·an and their little ones captive;12 and all their domestic animals and all their livestock and all their means of maintenance they plundered.
  10. And all their cities in which they had settled[b] and all their walled camps they burned with fire.13
  11. And they went taking all the spoil14 and all the booty in the way of humans[c] and domestic animals.
  12. And they came bringing to Moses and El·e·aʹzar the priest and to the assembly[d] of the sons of Israel the captives and the booty and the spoil, to the camp, to the desert plains of Moʹab,15 which are by the Jordan at Jerʹi·cho.
  13. ¶ Then Moses and El·e·aʹzar the priest and all the chieftains of the assembly went out to meet them outside the camp.
  14. And Moses grew indignant at the appointed men of the combat forces,16 the chiefs[e] of the thousands and the chiefs of the hundreds who were coming in from the military expedition.
  15. So Moses said to them: “Have YOU preserved alive every female?17
  16. Look! They are the ones who, by Baʹlaam’s word, served to induce the sons of Israel to commit unfaithfulness[f]18 toward Jehovah over the affair of Peʹor,19 so that the scourge came upon the assembly of Jehovah.20
  17. And now kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has had intercourse with man by lying with a male.21
  18. And preserve alive for yourselves all the little ones among the women who have not known the act of lying with a male.22
  19. As for YOU yourselves, camp outside the camp seven days. Everyone who has killed a soul23 and everyone who has touched someone slain,24 YOU should purify25 yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, YOU and YOUR captives.
  20. And every garment and every article of skin and everything made of goat’s hair and every article of wood YOU should purify for yourselves from sin.”26
  21. ¶ El·e·aʹzar the priest then said to the men of the army who had gone into the battle: “This is the statute of the law that Jehovah commanded Moses,
  22. ‘Only the gold and the silver, the copper, the iron, the tin and the lead,
  23. everything that is processed with fire,[g]27 YOU should pass through the fire, and it must be clean. Only it should be purified by the water for cleansing.28 And everything that is not processed with fire[h] YOU should pass through the water.29
  24. And YOU must wash YOUR garments on the seventh day and be clean, and afterward YOU may come into the camp.’”30
  25. ¶ And Jehovah proceeded to say this to Moses:
  26. “Take the sum of the booty, the captives both of humankind and of domestic animals, you and El·e·aʹzar the priest and the heads of the fathers of the assembly.
  27. And you must divide the booty in two between those taking part in the battle who went out on the expedition and all the rest of the assembly.31
  28. And as a tax32 for Jehovah you must take away from the men of war who went out on the expedition one soul out of five hundred, of humankind and of the herd and of the asses and of the flock.
  29. From their half YOU[i] should take it and you must give it to El·e·aʹzar the priest as Jehovah’s contribution.33
  30. And from the half of the sons of Israel you should take one out of fifty,[j] of humankind, of the herd, of the asses and of the flock, of every sort of domestic animal, and you must give them to the Levites,34 the keepers of the obligation of Jehovah’s tabernacle.”35
  31. ¶ And Moses and El·e·aʹzar the priest went doing just as Jehovah had commanded Moses.
  32. And the booty, the rest of the plunder that the people of the expedition had taken as plunder, amounted to six hundred and seventy-five thousand of the flock,
  33. and seventy-two thousand of the herd,
  34. and sixty-one thousand asses.
  35. As for human souls36 from the women who had not known the act of lying with a male,37 all the souls were thirty-two thousand.
  36. And the half that was the share of those who went out on the expedition amounted in number to three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred of the flock.
  37. And the tax38 for Jehovah from the flock amounted to six hundred and seventy-five.
  38. And of the herd there were thirty-six thousand, and the tax on them for Jehovah was seventy-two.
  39. And the asses were thirty thousand five hundred, and the tax on them for Jehovah was sixty-one.
  40. And the human souls were sixteen thousand, and the tax on them for Jehovah was thirty-two souls.
  41. Then Moses gave the tax as Jehovah’s contribution to El·e·aʹzar the priest,39 just as Jehovah had commanded Moses.40
  42. ¶ And from the half belonging to the sons of Israel, which Moses divided from that belonging to the men who waged war:
  43. Now the half of the assembly from the flock amounted to three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred,
  44. and of the herd, thirty-six thousand,
  45. and the asses, thirty thousand five hundred,
  46. and human souls, sixteen thousand.
  47. Then Moses took from the half belonging to the sons of Israel the one to be taken out of fifty,[k] of humankind and of domestic animals, and gave them to the Levites,41 the keepers of the obligation42 of Jehovah’s tabernacle, just as Jehovah had commanded Moses.
  48. ¶ And the appointed men who were of the thousands of the army,43 the chiefs of the thousands and the chiefs of the hundreds,44 proceeded to approach Moses,
  49. and to say to Moses: “Your servants have taken the sum of the men of war who are in our charge and not one has been reported missing from us.45
  50. So let us present each one what he has found as Jehovah’s offering,46 articles of gold, ankle chainlets, and bracelets, signet rings,47 earrings, and female ornaments,48 in order to make atonement for our souls before Jehovah.”
  51. ¶ Accordingly Moses and El·e·aʹzar the priest accepted the gold from them,49 all the jewelry.
  52. And all the gold of the contribution that they contributed to Jehovah amounted to sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from the chiefs of the thousands and the chiefs of the hundreds.
  53. The men of the army had taken plunder each for himself.50
  54. So Moses and El·e·aʹzar the priest accepted the gold from the chiefs of the thousands and of the hundreds and brought it into the tent of meeting as a memorial51 for the sons of Israel before Jehovah.

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
