Chapter 3 of Nehemiah—New World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And E·liʹa·shib1 the high priest and his brothers, the priests, proceeded to get up and build the Sheep Gate.2 They themselves sanctified it3 and went setting up its doors; and as far as the Tower of Meʹah[a]4 they sanctified it, as far as the Tower of Ha·nanʹel.5
  2. And at their side the men of Jerʹi·cho6 did building. And at their side Zacʹcur the son of Imʹri did building.
  3. ¶ And the Fish Gate7 was what the sons of Has·se·naʹah built; they themselves timbered it8 and then set up its doors,9 its bolts and its bars.10
  4. And at their side Merʹe·moth11 the son of U·riʹjah12 the son of Hakʹkoz did repair work, and at their side Me·shulʹlam13 the son of Ber·e·chiʹah the son of Me·shezʹa·bel did repair work; and at their side Zaʹdok the son of Baʹa·na did repair work.
  5. And at their side the Te·koʹites14 did repair work; but their majestic ones15 themselves did not bring the back of their neck into the service of their masters.[b]
  6. ¶ And the Gate16 of the Old [City] was what Joiʹa·da the son of Pa·seʹah and Me·shulʹlam the son of Bes·o·deiʹah repaired; they themselves timbered it and then set up its doors and its bolts and its bars.17
  7. And at their side Mel·a·tiʹah the Gibʹe·on·ite18 and Jaʹdon the Me·ronʹo·thite,19 did repair work, men of Gibʹe·on20 and Mizʹpah,21 belonging to the throne of the governor22 beyond the River.23
  8. At his side Uzʹzi·el the son of Har·haiʹah, goldsmiths,24 did repair work; and at his side Han·a·niʹah a member of the ointment mixers25 did repair work; and they proceeded to flagstone Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall.26
  9. And at their side Re·phaʹiah the son of Hur, a prince of half the district of Jerusalem, did repair work.
  10. And at their side Je·daʹiah the son of Ha·ruʹmaph did repair work in front of his own house;27 and at his side Hatʹtush the son of Hash·ab·neiʹah did repair work.
  11. ¶ Another measured section was what Mal·chiʹjah the son of Haʹrim28 and Hasʹshub the son of Paʹhath-moʹab[c]29 repaired, and also the Tower of the Bake Ovens.30
  12. And at his side Shalʹlum the son of Hal·loʹhesh, a prince31 of half the district of Jerusalem, did repair work, he and his daughters.
  13. ¶ The Valley Gate32 was what Haʹnun and the inhabitants of Za·noʹah33 repaired; they themselves built it and then set up its doors,34 its bolts35 and its bars,36 also a thousand cubits[d] in the wall as far as the Gate of the Ash-heaps.[e]37
  14. And the Gate of the Ash-heaps was what Mal·chiʹjah the son of Reʹchab, a prince of the district of Beth-hac·cheʹrem,38 repaired; he himself went building it and setting up its doors, its bolts and its bars.
  15. ¶ And the Fountain Gate39 was what Shalʹlun[f] the son of Col·hoʹzeh, a prince of the district of Mizʹpah,40 repaired; he himself proceeded to build it and to roof it over and to set up its doors,41 its bolts and its bars, and also the wall of the Pool42 of the Canal[g] to the King’s Garden43 and as far as the Stairway44 that goes down from the City of David.45
  16. ¶ After him Ne·he·miʹah the son of Azʹbuk, a prince of half the district of Beth-zur,46 did repair work as far as in front of the Burial Places47 of David and as far as the pool48 that had been made and as far as the House of the Mighty Ones.[h]49
  17. ¶ After him the Levites50 did repair work, Reʹhum the son of Baʹni;51 at his side Hash·a·biʹah, a prince of half the district of Keiʹlah,52 did repair work for his district.
  18. After him their brothers did repair work, Bavʹvai the son of Henʹa·dad, a prince of half the district of Keiʹlah.
  19. ¶ And Eʹzer the son of Jeshʹu·a,[i]53 a prince of Mizʹpah,54 proceeded at his side to repair another measured section in front of the going up to the Armory at the Buttress.55
  20. ¶ After him Barʹuch the son of Zabʹbai56 worked with fervor57 [and] repaired another measured section, from the Buttress as far as the entrance of the house of E·liʹa·shib58 the high priest.
  21. ¶ After him Merʹe·moth the son of U·riʹjah59 the son of Hakʹkoz repaired another measured section, from the entrance of the house of E·liʹa·shib as far as the end of E·liʹa·shib’s house.
  22. ¶ And after him the priests, men of the [Jordan] District,60 did repair work.
  23. After them[j] Benjamin and Hasʹshub did repair work in front of their own house. After them Az·a·riʹah the son of Ma·a·seiʹah the son of A·na·niʹah did repair work close by his own house.
  24. After him Binʹnu·i the son of Henʹa·dad repaired another measured section, from the house of Az·a·riʹah as far as the Buttress61 and as far as the corner.
  25. ¶ [After him] Paʹlal the son of Uʹzai [did repair work] in front of the Buttress and the tower that goes out from the King’s House,62 the upper one that belongs to the Courtyard of the Guard.63 After him there was Pe·daiʹah the son of Paʹrosh.64
  26. ¶ And the Nethʹi·nim[k]65 themselves happened to be dwellers in Oʹphel;66 [they did repair work] as far as in front of the Water Gate67 on the east and the protruding tower.
  27. ¶ After them the Te·koʹites68 repaired another measured section, from in front of the great protruding tower as far as the wall of Oʹphel.
  28. ¶ Above the Horse Gate69 the priests did repair work, each one in front of his own house.
  29. ¶ After them Zaʹdok70 the son of Imʹmer did repair work in front of his own house.
    ¶ And after him She·maiʹah the son of Shec·a·niʹah, the keeper of the East Gate,[l]71 did repair work.
  30. ¶ After him Han·a·niʹah the son of Shel·e·miʹah and Haʹnun the sixth son of Zaʹlaph repaired another measured section.
    ¶ After him Me·shulʹlam72 the son of Ber·e·chiʹah did repair work in front of his own hall.73
  31. ¶ After him Mal·chiʹjah, a member[m] of the goldsmith74 guild, did repair work as far as the house of the Nethʹi·nim75 and the traders,76 in front of the Inspection Gate[n] and as far as the roof chamber of the corner.
  32. [o] And between the roof chamber of the corner and the Sheep Gate77 the goldsmiths and the traders did repair work.

    The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

    Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible,whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things,and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

    The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

      Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

      Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

      Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

      Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

    Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
