Chapter 12 of NehemiahNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And these were the priests and the Levites that went up with Ze·rubʹba·bel1 the son of She·alʹti·el2 and Jeshʹu·a:3 Se·raiʹah, Jeremiah, Ezʹra,
  2. Am·a·riʹah,4 Malʹluch, Hatʹtush,
  3. Shec·a·niʹah, Reʹhum, Merʹe·moth,
  4. Idʹdo, Ginʹne·thoi, A·biʹjah,
  5. Mijʹa·min, Ma·a·diʹah, Bilʹgah,
  6. She·maiʹah,5 and Joiʹa·rib, Je·daʹiah,6
  7. Salʹlu,[a] Aʹmok,7 Hil·kiʹah, Je·daʹiah.8 These were the heads of the priests and their brothers in the days of Jeshʹu·a.9
  8. ¶ And the Levites were Jeshʹu·a,10 Binʹnu·i,11 Kadʹmi·el,12 She·re·biʹah,13 Judah, Mat·ta·niʹah,14 over the giving of thanks, he and his brothers.
  9. And Bak·bu·kiʹah and Unʹni their brothers were opposite them for guard duties.
  10. Jeshʹu·a himself became father to Joiʹa·kim,15 and Joiʹa·kim himself became father to E·liʹa·shib,16 and E·liʹa·shib to Joiʹa·da.17
  11. And Joiʹa·da himself became father to Jonʹa·than, and Jonʹa·than himself became father to Jadʹdu·a.18
  12. ¶ And in the days of Joiʹa·kim there happened to be priests, the heads of the paternal19 houses: for Se·raiʹah,20 Me·raiʹah; for Jeremiah, Han·a·niʹah;
  13. for Ezʹra,21 Me·shulʹlam; for Am·a·riʹah, Je·ho·haʹnan;
  14. for Malʹlu·chi,[b] Jonʹa·than; for Sheb·a·niʹah,22 Joseph;
  15. for Haʹrim,23 Adʹna; for Me·raʹioth, Helʹkai;
  16. for Idʹdo, Zech·a·riʹah; for Ginʹne·thon, Me·shulʹlam;
  17. for A·biʹjah,24 Zichʹri; for Mi·niʹa·min,[c] ——;[d] for Mo·a·diʹah, Pilʹtai;
  18. for Bilʹgah,25 Sham·muʹa; for She·maiʹah, Je·honʹa·than;
  19. and for Joiʹa·rib, Mat·teʹnai; for Je·daʹiah,26 Uzʹzi;
  20. for Sal·laʹi, Kalʹlai; for Aʹmok, Eʹber;
  21. for Hil·kiʹah, Hash·a·biʹah; for Je·daʹiah,27 Ne·thanʹel.
  22. ¶ The Levites in the days of E·liʹa·shib,28 Joiʹa·da29 and Jo·haʹnan and Jadʹdu·a30 were recorded as heads of paternal houses, also the priests, down till the kingship of Da·riʹus the Persian.
  23. ¶ The sons of Leʹvi as heads of the paternal houses31 were recorded in the book of the affairs of the times, even down till the days of Jo·haʹnan the son of E·liʹa·shib.
  24. And the heads of the Levites were Hash·a·biʹah, She·re·biʹah32 and Jeshʹu·a[e] the son of Kadʹmi·el33 and their brothers opposite them to offer praise [and] give thanks according to the commandment34 of David the man of the [true] God, guard group corresponding with guard group.
  25. Mat·ta·niʹah35 and Bak·bu·kiʹah, O·ba·diʹah, Me·shulʹlam, Talʹmon, Akʹkub36 were keeping guard as gatekeepers,37 a guard group by the stores of the gates.
  26. These were in the days of Joiʹa·kim38 the son of Jeshʹu·a39 the son of Joʹza·dak40 and in the days of Ne·he·miʹah41 the governor and Ezʹra42 the priest, the copyist.43
  27. ¶ And at the inauguration44 of the wall of Jerusalem they looked for the Levites, to bring them out of all their places to Jerusalem to carry on an inauguration and a rejoicing even with thanksgivings45 and with song,46 cymbals [and] stringed instruments47 and with harps.48
  28. And the sons of the singers proceeded to gather themselves even from the District,49 from all around Jerusalem and from the settlements of the Ne·tophʹa·thites,50
  29. and from Beth-gilʹgal51 and from the fields of Geʹba52 and Azʹma·veth,53 for there were settlements54 that the singers had built for themselves all around Jerusalem.
  30. And the priests and the Levites proceeded to cleanse55 themselves and cleanse the people56 and the gates57 and the wall.58
  31. ¶ Then I brought up the princes59 of Judah upon the wall. Further, I appointed two large thanksgiving choirs60 and processions, [and the one was walking][f] to the right upon the wall to the Gate of the Ash-heaps.[g]61
  32. And Ho·shaiʹah and half of the princes of Judah began to walk behind them,
  33. also Az·a·riʹah, Ezʹra and Me·shulʹlam,
  34. Judah and Benjamin and She·maiʹah and Jeremiah;
  35. also of the sons of the priests with the trumpets62 Zech·a·riʹah the son of Jonʹa·than the son of She·maiʹah the son of Mat·ta·niʹah the son of Mi·caiʹah the son of Zacʹcur63 the son of Aʹsaph,64
  36. and his brothers She·maiʹah and Azʹar·el, Milʹa·lai, Gilʹa·lai, Maʹai, Ne·thanʹel and Judah, Ha·naʹni, with the instruments65 of song of David the man of the [true] God; and Ezʹra66 the copyist before them.
  37. And at the Fountain Gate67 and straight ahead of them they went up on the Stairway68 of the City of David69 by the ascent of the wall above the House of David and clear to the Water Gate70 to the east.
  38. ¶ And the other thanksgiving choir71 was walking in front, and I after it, also half of the people, upon the wall up over the Tower of the Bake Ovens72 and on to the Broad Wall,73
  39. and up over the Gate of Eʹphra·im74 and on to the Gate of the Old [City]75 and clear to the Fish Gate76 and the Tower of Ha·nanʹel77 and the Tower of Meʹah78 and on to the Sheep Gate;79 and they came to a stand at the Gate of the Guard.
  40. ¶ At length the two thanksgiving choirs80 came to a stand at the house81 of the [true] God, also I and half of the deputy rulers with me,82
  41. and the priests E·liʹa·kim, Ma·a·seiʹah, Mi·niʹa·min,[h] Mi·caiʹah, Eli·o·eʹnai, Zech·a·riʹah, Han·a·niʹah with the trumpets,83
  42. and Ma·a·seiʹah and She·maiʹah, and El·e·aʹzar and Uzʹzi and Je·ho·haʹnan and Mal·chiʹjah and Eʹlam and Eʹzer. And the singers with Iz·ra·hiʹah the overseer kept making themselves heard.84
  43. ¶ And they proceeded to sacrifice on that day great sacrifices85 and to rejoice,86 for the [true] God himself caused them to rejoice with great joy.87 And also the women88 and the children89 themselves rejoiced, so that the rejoicing of Jerusalem could be heard far away.90
  44. ¶ Further, there were appointed on that day men over the halls91 for the stores,92 for the contributions,93 for the firstfruits94 and for the tenths,[i]95 to gather into them out of[j] the fields of the cities the portions [called for by] the law96 for the priests and the Levites;97 for the rejoicing of Judah was because of the priests and of the Levites98 who were in attendance.
  45. And they began taking care of the obligation99 of their God and the obligation of the purification,100 also the singers101 and the gatekeepers,102 according to the commandment of David [and] Solʹo·mon his son.
  46. For in the days of David and Aʹsaph in bygone time there were heads of the singers103 and the song of praise and thanksgivings to God.104
  47. And all Israel during the days of Ze·rubʹba·bel105 and during the days of Ne·he·miʹah106 were giving the portions of the singers107 and of the gatekeepers108 according to the daily need[k] and were sanctifying [them] to the Levites;109 and the Levites were sanctifying [them] to the sons of Aaron.

    When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

      The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

    The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

      The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

      The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

      Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

      May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

      NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

    Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
