Chapter 1 of LukeNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Whereas many have undertaken to compile a statement of the facts1 that are given full credence among us,
  2. just as those who from [the] beginning2 became eyewitnesses3 and attendants of the message[a]4 delivered these to us,
  3. I resolved also, because I have traced all things from the start with accuracy, to write them in logical order5 to you, most excellent6 The·ophʹi·lus,7
  4. that you may know fully the certainty of the things that you have been taught orally.8
  5. ¶ In the days of Herod,9 king of Ju·deʹa, there happened to be a certain priest named Zech·a·riʹah[b] of the division of A·biʹjah,[c]10 and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron,11 and her name was Elizabeth.
  6. They both were righteous12 before God because of walking blamelessly13 in accord with all the commandments14 and legal15 requirements of Jehovah.[d]16
  7. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren,17 and they both were well along in years.
  8. ¶ Now as he was acting as priest in the assignment of his division18 before God,
  9. according to the solemn practice of the priestly office it became his turn to offer incense19 when he entered into the sanctuary[e] of Jehovah;[f]20
  10. and all the multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of offering incense.21
  11. To him Jehovah’s[g] angel appeared, standing at the right side of the incense altar.22
  12. But Zech·a·riʹah became troubled at the sight, and fear fell upon him.23
  13. However, the angel said to him: “Have no fear, Zech·a·riʹah, because your supplication has been favorably heard,24 and your wife Elizabeth will become mother to a son to you, and you are to call his name John.[h]25
  14. And you will have joy and great gladness, and many will rejoice26 over his birth;
  15. for he will be great before Jehovah.[i]27 But he must drink no wine and strong drink at all,28 and he will be filled with holy spirit[j] right from his mother’s womb;29
  16. and many of the sons of Israel will he turn back to Jehovah[k]30 their God.
  17. Also, he will go before him with E·liʹjah’s[l]31 spirit and power, to turn back the hearts32 of fathers to children and the disobedient ones to the practical wisdom of righteous ones, to get ready for Jehovah[m]33 a prepared people.”34
  18. ¶ And Zech·a·riʹah said to the angel: “How am I to be sure of this? For I am aged35 and my wife is well along in years.”
  19. In reply the angel said to him: “I am Gaʹbri·el,[n]36 who stands near before God, and I was sent forth to speak37 with you and declare the good news[o] of these things to you.
  20. But, look! you will be silent38 and not able to speak until the day that these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their appointed time.”
  21. Meanwhile the people continued waiting for Zech·a·riʹah,39 and they began to wonder at his delaying in the sanctuary.
  22. But when he came out he was not able to speak to them, and they perceived that he had just seen a supernatural40 sight in the sanctuary; and he kept making signs to them, but remained dumb.
  23. When, now, the days of his public service[p] were fulfilled,41 he went off to his home.
  24. ¶ But after these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant;42 and she kept herself secluded for five months, saying:
  25. “This is the way Jehovah[q] has dealt with me in these days when he has given me his attention to take away my reproach among men.”43
  26. ¶ In her[r] sixth month the angel Gaʹbri·el44 was sent forth from God to a city of Galʹi·lee named Nazʹa·reth,
  27. to a virgin promised in marriage to a man named Joseph of David’s house; and the name of the virgin45 was Mary.[s]46
  28. And when he went in before her he said: “Good day,47 highly favored one, Jehovah[t]48 is with you.”49
  29. But she was deeply disturbed at the saying and began to reason out what sort of greeting this might be.
  30. So the angel said to her: “Have no fear, Mary, for you have found favor50 with God;
  31. and, look! you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son,51 and you are to call his name Jesus.[u]52
  32. This one will be great53 and will be called Son of the Most High;54 and Jehovah[v] God will give him the throne55 of David his father,56
  33. and he will rule as king over the house of Jacob forever, and there will be no end of his kingdom.”57
  34. ¶ But Mary said to the angel: “How is this to be, since I am having no intercourse58 with a man?”
  35. In answer the angel said to her: “Holy spirit59 will come upon you, and power of the Most High will overshadow you. For that reason also what is born will be called holy,60 God’s Son.61
  36. And, look! Elizabeth your relative has also herself conceived a son, in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her, the so-called barren woman;62
  37. because with God no declaration[w] will be an impossibility.”63
  38. Then Mary said: “Look! Jehovah’s[x] slave girl!64 May it take place with me according to your declaration.” At that the angel departed from her.
  39. ¶ So Mary rose in these days and went into the mountainous country with haste, to a city of Judah,
  40. and she entered into the home of Zech·a·riʹah and greeted Elizabeth.
  41. Well, as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the infant in her womb leaped; and Elizabeth was filled with holy spirit,
  42. and she called out with a loud cry and said: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed65 is the fruit of your womb!
  43. So how is it that this [privilege] is mine, to have the mother of my Lord66 come to me?
  44. For, look! as the sound of your greeting fell upon my ears, the infant in my womb leaped with great gladness.67
  45. Happy too is she that believed, because there will be a complete performance68 of those things spoken to her from Jehovah.”[y]69
  46. ¶ And Mary said: “My soul magnifies[z] Jehovah,[aa]70
  47. and my spirit cannot keep from being overjoyed71 at God my Savior;72
  48. because he has looked upon the low position of his slave girl.73 For, look! from now on all generations will pronounce me happy;74
  49. because the powerful One has done great deeds for me, and holy is his name;75
  50. and for generations after generations his mercy is upon those who fear him.76
  51. He has performed mightily with his arm,77 he has scattered abroad those who are haughty in the intention of their hearts.78
  52. He has brought down men of power79 from thrones and exalted lowly ones;80
  53. he has fully satisfied hungry ones with good things81 and he has sent away empty those who had wealth.82
  54. He has come to the aid of Israel his servant,83 to call to mind mercy,84
  55. just as he told to our forefathers, to Abraham and to his seed,[ab] forever.”85
  56. Then Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her own home.
  57. ¶ The time now became due for Elizabeth to give birth, and she became mother to a son.
  58. And the neighbors and her relatives heard that Jehovah[ac] had magnified his mercy86 to her, and they began to rejoice87 with her.
  59. And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the young child,88 and they were going to call it by the name of its father, Zech·a·riʹah.
  60. But its mother answered and said: “No, indeed! but he shall be called John.”
  61. At this they said to her: “There is no one among your relatives that is called by this name.”
  62. Then they went asking its father by signs what he wanted it to be called.
  63. And he asked for a tablet and wrote: “John89 is its name.” At this they all marveled.
  64. Instantly his mouth was opened90 and his tongue loosed and he began to speak, blessing God.
  65. And fear fell upon all those living in their neighborhood; and in the whole mountainous country of Ju·deʹa all these things began to be talked around,
  66. and all that heard made note of it in their hearts,91 saying: “What really will this young child be?” For the hand92 of Jehovah[ad] was indeed with it.
  67. ¶ And Zech·a·riʹah its father was filled with holy spirit,93 and he prophesied,94 saying:
  68. “Blessed be Jehovah[ae] the God of Israel,95 because he has turned his attention and performed deliverance96 toward his people.97
  69. And he has raised up a horn98 of salvation[af] for us in the house of David his servant,
  70. just as he, through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,99 has spoken
  71. of a salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all those hating us;100
  72. to perform the mercy in connection with our forefathers and to call to mind his holy covenant,101
  73. the oath that he swore to Abraham our forefather,102
  74. to grant us, after we have been rescued from the hands of enemies,103 the privilege of fearlessly rendering sacred service[ag] to him104
  75. with loyalty and righteousness before him all our days.105
  76. But as for you, young child, you will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go in advance before Jehovah[ah] to make his ways ready,106
  77. to give knowledge of salvation to his people by forgiveness of their sins,107
  78. because of the tender compassion of our God. With this [compassion] a daybreak108 will visit us from on high,109
  79. to give light to those sitting in darkness and death’s shadow,110 to direct our feet prosperously in the way of peace.”
  80. ¶ And the young child went on growing111 and getting strong in spirit, and he continued in the deserts until the day of showing himself openly to Israel.

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!

I live in Dover, Delaware. My boyfriend Juan Tover and I have been dating for the past 4 yrs we were to get married in September of this year but it never happened..he constantly messes around with his ex's and other females every time he got caught he apologized and tell me to forgive him and I keep taking him back because I'm truly in love with this man but after a while he started messing around again...what can I do to make this man to love me and stop the messing around so we could get married and start our family? I am very happy I contacted Priest Salami regarding my problem. My boyfriend is now my HUSBAND. We got married 2 weeks ago in the United Church in Dover. My problem was solved.
