Chapter 9 of LukeNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Then he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to cure sicknesses.1
  2. And so he sent them forth to preach the kingdom of God and to heal,
  3. and he said to them: “Carry nothing for the trip, neither staff nor food pouch, nor bread nor silver money; neither have two undergarments.2
  4. But wherever YOU enter into a home, stay there and leave from there.3
  5. And wherever people do not receive YOU, on going out of that city4 shake the dust off YOUR feet for a witness against them.”5
  6. Then starting out they went through the territory from village to village, declaring the good news and performing cures everywhere.6
  7. ¶ Now Herod the district ruler[a] heard of all the things happening, and he was in great perplexity because of its being said by some that John had been raised up from the dead,7
  8. but by others that E·liʹjah had appeared, but by still others that a certain one of the ancient prophets had risen.
  9. Herod said: “John I beheaded.8 Who, then, is this about whom I am hearing such things?” So he was seeking9 to see him.
  10. ¶ And when the apostles returned they recounted to him what things they had done.10 With that he took them along and withdrew to privacy11 into a city called Beth·saʹi·da.
  11. But the crowds, getting to know it, followed him. And he received them kindly and began to speak to them about the kingdom of God,12 and he healed those needing a cure.13
  12. Then the day started to decline. The twelve now came up and said to him: “Dismiss the crowd, that they may go into the villages and countryside round about and procure lodging and find provisions, because out here we are in a lonely place.”14
  13. But he said to them: “YOU give them something to eat.”15 They said: “We have nothing more than five loaves and two fishes,16 unless perhaps we ourselves go and buy foodstuffs for all these people.”17
  14. They were, in fact, about five thousand men.18 But he said to his disciples: “Have them recline as at meals, in groups of about fifty each.”19
  15. And they did so and had them all recline.
  16. Then taking the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, blessed them and broke them up and began to give them to the disciples to set before the crowd.20
  17. So they all ate and were satisfied, and the surplus that they had was taken up, twelve baskets of fragments.21
  18. ¶ Later, while he was praying alone, the disciples came together to him,[b] and he questioned them, saying: “Who are the crowds saying that I am?”22
  19. In reply they said: “John the Baptist;[c] but others, E·liʹjah,[d] and still others, that one of the ancient prophets has risen.”23
  20. Then he said to them: “YOU, though, who do YOU say I am?” Peter said in reply:24 “The Christ25 of God.”
  21. Then in a stern talk to them he instructed them not to be telling this to anybody,26
  22. but said: “The Son of man must undergo many sufferings and be rejected by the older men and chief priests and scribes, and be killed,27 and on the third day be raised up.”28
  23. ¶ Then he went on to say to all: “If anyone wants to come after me, let him disown himself29 and pick up his torture stake[e] day after day and follow me continually.30
  24. For whoever wants to save his soul[f] will lose it; but whoever loses his soul for my sake is the one that will save it.31
  25. Really, what does a man benefit himself if he gains the whole world but loses his own self or suffers damage?32
  26. For whoever becomes ashamed of me and of my words, the Son of man will be ashamed of this one when he arrives in his glory and that of the Father and of the holy angels.33
  27. But I tell YOU truthfully, There are some of those standing here that will not taste death at all until first they see the kingdom of God.”34
  28. ¶ In actual fact, about eight days after these words, he took Peter and John and James along and climbed up into the mountain to pray.35
  29. And as he was praying the appearance36 of his face became different and his apparel became glitteringly white.[g]37
  30. Also, look! two men were conversing with him, who were Moses and E·liʹjah.38
  31. These appeared with glory and began talking about his departure[h] that he was destined to fulfill at Jerusalem.39
  32. Now Peter and those with him were weighed down with sleep; but when they got fully awake they saw his glory40 and the two men standing with him.
  33. And as these were being separated from him, Peter said to Jesus: “Instructor, it is fine for us to be here, so let us erect three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for E·liʹjah,” he not realizing what he was saying.41
  34. But as he was saying these things a cloud formed and began to overshadow them. As they entered into the cloud, they became fearful.42
  35. And a voice43 came out of the cloud, saying: “This is my Son, the one that has been chosen.44 Listen to him.”45
  36. And as the voice occurred Jesus was found alone.46 But they kept quiet and did not report to anyone in those days any of the things they saw.47
  37. ¶ On the succeeding day, when they got down from the mountain, a great crowd met him.48
  38. And, look! a man cried out from the crowd, saying: “Teacher, I beg you to take a look at my son, because he is my only49-begotten,[i]50
  39. and, look! a spirit51 takes him, and suddenly he cries out, and it throws him into convulsions with foam, and it scarcely withdraws from him after bruising him.
  40. And I begged your disciples to expel it, but they could not.”52
  41. In response Jesus said: “O faithless and twisted generation,53 how long must I continue with YOU and put up with YOU? Lead your son over here.”54
  42. But even as he was approaching, the demon dashed him to the ground and violently convulsed him. However, Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy and delivered him to his father.55
  43. Well, they all began to be astounded at the majestic power[j]56 of God.
¶ Now as they were all marveling at all the things he was doing, he said to his disciples:
  44. “Give lodgment to these words in YOUR ears, for the Son of man is destined to be delivered into the hands of men.”57
  45. But they continued without understanding of this saying. In fact, it was concealed from them that they might not see through it, and they were afraid to question him about this saying.58
  46. ¶ Then a reasoning entered among them as to who would be[k] the greatest of them.59
  47. Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a young child, set it beside him60
  48. and said to them: “Whoever receives this young child on the basis of my name receives me [too], and whoever receives me receives him [also] that sent me forth.61 For he that conducts himself as a lesser62 one among all of YOU is the one that is[l] great.”63
  49. ¶ In response John said: “Instructor, we saw a certain man expelling demons64 by the use of your name and we tried to prevent65 him, because he is not following[m] with us.”66
  50. But Jesus said to him: “Do not YOU men try to prevent [him], for he that is not against YOU is for YOU.”67
  51. ¶ As the days were now coming to the full for him to be taken up,[n]68 he firmly set his face to go to Jerusalem.
  52. So he sent forth messengers in advance of him. And they went their way and entered into a village of Sa·marʹi·tans,69 to make preparation for him;
  53. but they did not receive him, because his face was set for going to Jerusalem.70
  54. When the disciples James and John71 saw this they said: “Lord,[o] do you want us to tell fire72 to come down from heaven and annihilate them?”
  55. But he turned and rebuked them.
  56. So they went to a different village.
  57. ¶ Now as they were going on the road, someone said to him: “I will follow you to wherever you may depart.”73
  58. And Jesus said to him: “Foxes have dens and birds of heaven have roosts, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay down his head.”74
  59. Then he said to another: “Be my follower.” The man said: “Permit me first to leave and bury my father.”75
  60. But he said to him: “Let the dead76 bury their dead, but you go away and declare abroad the kingdom of God.”77
  61. And still another said: “I will follow you, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye78 to those in my household.”[p]
  62. Jesus said to him: “No man that has put his hand to a plow79 and looks at the things behind80 is well fitted for the kingdom of God.”

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
