Chapter 4 of LukeNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Now Jesus, full of holy spirit, turned away from the Jordan, and he was led about by the spirit[a] in the wilderness1
  2. for forty days,2 while being tempted3 by the Devil. Furthermore, he ate nothing in those days, and so, when they were concluded, he felt hungry.
  3. At this the Devil said to him: “If you are a son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.”
  4. But Jesus replied to him: “It is written, ‘Man must not live by bread alone.’”[b]4
  5. ¶ So he brought him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the inhabited earth in an instant of time;
  6. and the Devil said to him: “I will give you all this authority[c]5 and the glory of them, because it has been delivered to me, and to whomever I wish I give it.6
  7. You, therefore, if you do an act7 of worship before me, it will all be yours.”
  8. In reply Jesus said to him: “It is written, ‘It is Jehovah[d] your God8 you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’”[e]9
  9. ¶ Now he led him into Jerusalem and stationed him upon the battlement10 of the temple and said to him: “If you are a son of God, hurl yourself down from here;11
  10. for it is written, ‘He will give his angels a charge concerning you, to preserve you,’12
  11. and, ‘They will carry you on their hands, that you may at no time strike your foot against a stone.’”13
  12. In answer Jesus said to him: “It is said, ‘You must not put Jehovah[f] your God to the test.’”14
  13. So the Devil, having concluded all the temptation, retired from him until another convenient time.15
  14. ¶ Now Jesus returned in the power of the spirit into Galʹi·lee.16 And good talk concerning him spread out through all the surrounding country.17
  15. Also, he began to teach in their synagogues, being held in honor by all.18
  16. ¶ And he came to Nazʹa·reth,19 where he had been reared; and, according to his custom on the sabbath day, he entered into the synagogue,20 and he stood up to read.
  17. So the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed him, and he opened the scroll and found the place where it was written:
  18. “Jehovah’s[g] spirit21 is upon me, because he anointed[h] me to declare good news to the poor, he sent me forth to preach a release to the captives and a recovery of sight to the blind, to send the crushed ones away with a release,22
  19. to preach Jehovah’s[i] acceptable year.”23
  20. With that he rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were intently fixed upon him.
  21. Then he started to say to them: “Today this scripture that YOU just heard[j] is fulfilled.”24
  22. ¶ And they all began to give favorable witness about him and to marvel at the winsome words25 proceeding out of his mouth, and they were saying: “This is a son of Joseph, is it not?”26
  23. At this he said to them: “No doubt YOU will apply this illustration[k] to me, ‘Physician,27 cure yourself; the things28 we heard as having happened in Ca·perʹna·um29 do also here in your home territory.’”30
  24. But he said: “Truly I tell YOU that no prophet is accepted in his home territory.
  25. For instance, I tell YOU in truth, There were many widows in Israel in the days of E·liʹjah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, so that a great famine fell upon all the land,31
  26. yet E·liʹjah was sent to none of those [women], but only to Zarʹe·phath[l]32 in the land of Siʹdon to a widow.
  27. Also, there were many lepers in Israel in the time of E·liʹsha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, but Naʹa·man the man of Syria.”33
  28. Now all those hearing these things in the synagogue became filled with anger;34
  29. and they rose up and hurried him outside the city, and they led him to the brow of the mountain[m] upon which their city had been built, in order to throw him down headlong.35
  30. But he went through the midst of them and continued on his way.36
  31. ¶ And he went down to Ca·perʹna·um,37 a city of Galʹi·lee. And he was teaching them on the sabbath;
  32. and they were astounded at his way of teaching,38 because his speech was with authority.39
  33. Now in the synagogue there was a man with a spirit,40 an unclean demon,[n] and he shouted with a loud voice:
  34. “Ah! What have we to do with you,[o]41 Jesus you Naz·a·reneʹ?42 Did you come to destroy us? I know43 exactly who you are, the Holy One of God.”44
  35. But Jesus rebuked it, saying: “Be silent, and come out of him.” So, after throwing the man down in their midst, the demon came out of him without hurting him.45
  36. At this, astonishment fell upon all, and they began to converse with one another, saying: “What sort of speech is this, because with authority and power he orders the unclean spirits, and out they come?”46
  37. So the news concerning him kept going out into every corner of the surrounding country.47
  38. ¶ After getting up out of the synagogue he entered into Simon’s home. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was distressed with a high fever, and they made request of him for her.48
  39. So he stood over her and rebuked the fever,49 and it left her. Instantly she rose and began ministering to them.50
  40. ¶ But when the sun was setting, all those who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him. By laying his hands upon each one of them he would cure them.51
  41. Demons also would come out of many,52 crying out and saying: “You are the Son53 of God.” But, rebuking them, he would not permit them to speak,54 because they knew him55 to be the Christ.56
  42. ¶ However, when it became day, he went out and proceeded to a lonely place.57 But the crowds began hunting about for him and came out as far as he was, and they tried to detain him from going away from them.
  43. But he said to them: “Also to other cities I must declare the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this I was sent forth.”58
  44. Accordingly he went on preaching in the synagogues of Ju·deʹa.59

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
