Chapter 11 of Leviticus—New World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And Jehovah proceeded to speak to Moses and Aaron, saying to them:
  2. “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘This is the living creature that YOU may eat1 of all the beasts that are upon the earth:
  3. Every creature that splits the hoof and forms a cleft in the hoofs and chews[a] the cud among the beasts, that is what YOU may eat.2
  4. ¶ “‘Only this is what YOU must not eat among the chewers of the cud and the splitters of the hoof: the camel, because it is a chewer of the cud but is no splitter of the hoof. It is unclean for YOU.3
  5. Also the rock badger,[b]4 because it is a chewer of the cud but does not split the hoof. It is unclean for YOU.
  6. Also the hare,[c]5 because it is a chewer of the cud but it does not have the hoof split. It is unclean for YOU.
  7. Also the pig,6 because it is a splitter of the hoof and a former of a cleft in the hoof, but it itself does not chew the cud. It is unclean for YOU.
  8. YOU must not eat any of their flesh, and YOU must not touch their dead body.7 They are unclean for YOU.8
  9. ¶ “‘This is what YOU may eat of everything that is in the waters:9 Everything that has fins and scales10 in the waters, in the seas and in the torrents, those YOU may eat.
  10. And everything in the seas and the torrents that has no fins and scales, out of every swarming creature of the waters and out of every living soul[d] that is in the waters, they are a loathsome thing for YOU.
  11. Yes, they will become a loathsome thing to YOU. YOU must not eat any of their flesh,11 and YOU are to loathe their dead body.
  12. Everything in the waters that has no fins and scales is a loathsome thing to YOU.
  13. ¶ “‘And these are what YOU will loathe among the flying creatures.12 They should not be eaten. They are a loathsome thing: the eagle13 and the osprey[e] and the black vulture,
  14. and the red kite and the black kite14 according to its kind,[f]
  15. and every raven15 according to its kind,
  16. and the ostrich[g]16 and the owl[h] and the gull and the falcon according to its kind,
  17. and the little owl and the cormorant and the long-eared owl,17
  18. and the swan[i] and the pelican and the vulture,18
  19. and the stork, the heron according to its kind, and the hoopoe and the bat.19
  20. Every winged swarming creature that goes on all fours is a loathsome thing to YOU.20
  21. ¶ “‘Only this is what YOU may eat of all the winged swarming creatures that go upon all fours, those that have[j] leaper legs above their feet with which to leap upon the earth.
  22. These are the ones of them YOU may eat of: the migratory locust[k]21 according to its kind, and the edible locust22 after its kind, and the cricket according to its kind, and the grasshopper[l]23 according to its kind.
  23. And every other winged swarming creature that does have four legs is a loathsome24 thing to YOU.
  24. So by these YOU would make yourselves unclean. Everyone touching their dead bodies will be unclean until the evening.25
  25. And everyone carrying any of their dead bodies will wash26 his garments, and he must be unclean until the evening.
  26. ¶ “‘As for any beast that is a splitter of the hoof but is not a former of a cleft and is not a chewer of the cud, they are unclean for YOU. Everyone touching them will be unclean.27
  27. As for every creature going upon its paws among all the living creatures that go on all fours, they are unclean to YOU. Everyone touching their dead bodies will be unclean until the evening.
  28. And he who carries their dead bodies28 will wash his garments,29 and he must be unclean until the evening. They are unclean to YOU.
  29. ¶ “‘And this is what is unclean to YOU among the swarming creatures that swarm upon the earth:30 the mole rat and the jerboa31 and the lizard[m] according to its kind,
  30. and the gecko fanfoot and the large lizard and the newt[n] and the sand lizard and the chameleon.[o]
  31. These are unclean to YOU among all the swarming creatures.32 Everyone touching them in their death state will be unclean until the evening.33
  32. ¶ “‘Now anything upon which any of them should fall in its death state will be unclean, whether it be some wooden vessel34 or a garment or a skin35 or sackcloth.36 Any vessel of which some use is made will be put in water, and it must be unclean until the evening and then be clean.
  33. As for any earthenware vessel37 into which any of them should fall, anything that is within it will be unclean, and YOU will smash it.38
  34. Any sort of food that may be eaten upon which water may come from it will be unclean, and any drink that may be drunk in any vessel will be unclean.
  35. And everything upon which any of their dead bodies may fall will be unclean. Whether oven or jar stand, it is to be broken down. They are unclean, and they will become unclean to YOU.
  36. Only a spring and a pit of impounded waters will continue clean, but anyone touching their dead bodies will be unclean.
  37. And should any of their dead bodies fall upon any seed of a plant that is to be sown, it is clean.
  38. But in case water should be put upon seed and something of their dead bodies had fallen upon it, it is unclean to YOU.
  39. ¶ “‘Now in case any beast that is YOURS for food should die, he who touches its dead body will be unclean until the evening.39
  40. And he who eats40 any of its dead body will wash his garments, and he must be unclean until the evening; and he who carries off its dead body will wash his garments, and he must be unclean until the evening.
  41. And every swarming creature that swarms upon the earth is a loathsome thing.41 It must not be eaten.
  42. As for any creature that goes upon the belly[p]42 and any creature that goes on all fours or any great number of feet of all the swarming creatures that swarm upon the earth, YOU must not eat them, because they are a loathsome thing.43
  43. Do not make YOUR souls loathsome with any swarming creature that swarms, and YOU must not make yourselves unclean by them and actually get unclean by them.44
  44. For I am Jehovah YOUR God;45 and YOU must sanctify yourselves and YOU must prove yourselves holy,46 because I am holy.47 So YOU must not make YOUR souls unclean by any swarming creature that moves upon the earth.
  45. For I am Jehovah who is leading YOU up out of the land of Egypt to prove myself God to YOU;48 and YOU must prove yourselves holy,49 because I am holy.50
  46. ¶ “‘This is the law about the beast and the flying creature and every living soul that moves about in the waters51 and concerning every soul that swarms upon the earth,
  47. in order to make a distinction52 between the unclean and the clean and between the living creature that is eatable and the living creature that may not be eaten.’”

    The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

    Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible,whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things,and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

    The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

      Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

      Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

      Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

      Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

    Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
