Chapter 10 of JoshuaNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And it came about that as soon as A·doʹni-zeʹdek the king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had captured Aʹi1 and then devoted it to destruction,2 that just as he had done to Jerʹi·cho3 and its king,4 so he had done to Aʹi and its king,5 and that the inhabitants of Gibʹe·on had made peace with Israel6 and were continuing in their midst,
  2. he[a] became very much afraid,7 because Gibʹe·on was a great city, like one of the royal cities,[b] and because it was greater than Aʹi,8 and all its men were mighty ones.
  3. Consequently A·doʹni-zeʹdek the king of Jerusalem9 sent to Hoʹham the king of Heʹbron10 and to Piʹram the king of Jarʹmuth11 and to Ja·phiʹa the king of Laʹchish12 and to Deʹbir the king of Egʹlon,13 saying,
  4. “Come up to me and help me and let us strike Gibʹe·on, because it has made peace with Joshua and the sons of Israel.”14
  5. At this they gathered together and went on up, five kings of the Amʹor·ites,15 the king of Jerusalem, the king of Heʹbron, the king of Jarʹmuth, the king of Laʹchish, the king of Egʹlon, these and all their camps, and they proceeded to camp against Gibʹe·on and to war against it.
  6. ¶ Upon that the men of Gibʹe·on sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilʹgal,16 saying: “Do not let your hand relax from your slaves.17 Come up to us quickly and do save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amʹor·ites inhabiting the mountainous region have collected together against us.”
  7. So Joshua went on up from Gilʹgal, he and all the people of war with him18 and all the valiant mighty men.19
  8. ¶ Then Jehovah said to Joshua: “Do not be afraid of them,20 for into your hand I have given them.21 Not a man of them will stand against you.”22
  9. And Joshua proceeded to come against them by surprise. All night long he had gone up from Gilʹgal.
  10. And Jehovah went throwing them into confusion before Israel,23 and they[c] began to slay them with a great slaughter at Gibʹe·on24 and went pursuing them by way of the ascent of Beth-hoʹron and slaying them as far as A·zeʹkah25 and Mak·keʹdah.26
  11. And it came about that while they were fleeing from before Israel and were on the descent of Beth-hoʹron, Jehovah hurled great stones27 from the heavens upon them as far as A·zeʹkah, so that they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than those whom the sons of Israel killed with the sword.
  12. ¶ It was then that Joshua proceeded to speak to Jehovah on the day of Jehovah’s abandoning the Amʹor·ites to the sons of Israel, and he went on to say before the eyes of Israel:
    ¶ “Sun,28 be motionless[d] over Gibʹe·on,29
¶ And, moon, over the low plain of Aiʹja·lon.”30
  13. ¶ Accordingly the sun kept motionless, and the moon did stand still, until the nation could take vengeance on its enemies.31 Is it not written in the book of Jaʹshar?[e]32 And the sun kept standing still in the middle of the heavens and did not hasten to set for about a whole day.33
  14. And no day has proved to be like that one, either before it or after it, in that Jehovah listened to the voice of a man,34 for Jehovah himself was fighting for Israel.35
  15. ¶ After that Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp at Gilʹgal.36
  16. ¶ Meantime these five kings fled37 and went hiding themselves in the cave at Mak·keʹdah.38
  17. Then the report was made to Joshua, saying: “The five kings have been found hidden in the cave at Mak·keʹdah.”39
  18. At that Joshua said: “ROLL great stones up to the mouth of the cave and assign men over it to guard them.
  19. As for YOU men, do not stand still. Chase after YOUR enemies, and YOU must strike them in the rear.40 Do not allow them to enter into their cities, for Jehovah YOUR God has given them into YOUR hands.”41
  20. ¶ And it came about that as soon as Joshua and the sons of Israel had finished slaying them with a very great slaughter, until these came to their end,42 and those who did survive of them escaped and went entering into the fortified cities,43
  21. all the people then began to return to the camp, to Joshua, at Mak·keʹdah in peace. Not a man moved his tongue eagerly against the sons of Israel.44
  22. Then Joshua said: “OPEN the mouth of the cave and bring out these five kings from the cave to me.”
  23. At that they did so and brought out to him from the cave these five kings, the king of Jerusalem,45 the king of Heʹbron,46 the king of Jarʹmuth, the king of Laʹchish,47 the king of Egʹlon.48
  24. And it came about that as soon as they had brought out these kings to Joshua, Joshua proceeded to call all the men of Israel and to say to the commanders of the men of war that had gone with him: “Come forward. Place YOUR feet on the back of the necks of these kings.”49 So they came forward and placed their feet on the back of their necks.50
  25. And Joshua went on to say to them: “Do not be afraid or be terrified.51 Be courageous and strong, for it is like this that Jehovah will do to all YOUR enemies against whom YOU are warring.”52
  26. ¶ And after that Joshua proceeded to strike them and put them to death and hang them upon five stakes,[f] and they continued hanging upon the stakes until the evening.53
  27. And it came about that at the time of the setting of the sun Joshua commanded, and they went taking them down off the stakes54 and throwing them into the cave where they had hid themselves. Then they placed big stones at the mouth of the cave—until this very day.
  28. ¶ And Joshua captured Mak·keʹdah55 on that day and went striking it with the edge of the sword. As for its king, he devoted him and every soul[g] that was in it to destruction.56 He let no survivor remain. So he did to the king of Mak·keʹdah57 just as he had done to the king of Jerʹi·cho.
  29. ¶ Then Joshua and all Israel with him passed on from Mak·keʹdah to Libʹnah and warred against Libʹnah.58
  30. Accordingly Jehovah gave it also and its king into Israel’s hand, and they went striking it and every soul that was in it with the edge of the sword. They did not let a survivor remain in it. So they did to its king just as they had done to the king of Jerʹi·cho.59
  31. ¶ Next Joshua and all Israel with him passed on from Libʹnah to Laʹchish60 and went camping against it and warring upon it.
  32. Accordingly Jehovah gave Laʹchish into Israel’s hand so that they captured it on the second day, and they went striking it and every soul that was in it with the edge of the sword,61 according to all that they had done to Libʹnah.
  33. ¶ It was then that Hoʹram the king of Geʹzer62 went up to help Laʹchish. So Joshua struck him and his people until he had let not a survivor of his remain.63
  34. ¶ Then Joshua and all Israel with him passed on from Laʹchish to Egʹlon64 and went camping against it and warring against it.
  35. And they got to capture it on that day and began to smite it with the edge of the sword, and they devoted every soul that was in it to destruction on that day, according to all that they had done to Laʹchish.65
  36. ¶ Then Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Egʹlon to Heʹbron66 and began to war against it.
  37. And they got to capture it and went striking it and its king and all its towns and every soul that was in it with the edge of the sword. He did not let a survivor remain, according to all that he had done to Egʹlon. So he devoted it and every soul that was in it to destruction.67
  38. ¶ Finally Joshua and all Israel with him came back to Deʹbir68 and began to war against it.
  39. And he got to capture it and its king and all its towns, and they went striking them with the edge of the sword and devoting every soul that was in it to destruction.69 He did not let a survivor remain.70 Just as he had done to Heʹbron, so he did to Deʹbir and its king, and just as he had done to Libʹnah and its king.71
  40. ¶ And Joshua proceeded to strike all the land of the mountainous region72 and the Negʹeb73 and the She·pheʹlah[h]74 and the slopes75 and all their kings. He did not let a survivor remain, and everything that breathed[i]76 he devoted to destruction,77 just as Jehovah the God of Israel had commanded.78
  41. And Joshua went striking them from Kaʹdesh-barʹne·a79 to Gaʹza80 and all the land of Goʹshen81 and up to Gibʹe·on.82
  42. And Joshua captured all these kings and their land at one time,83 because it was Jehovah the God of Israel who was fighting for Israel.84
  43. After that Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp at Gilʹgal.85

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
