Chapter 20 of JohnNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ On the first day1 of the week Mary Magʹda·lene came to the memorial tomb early, while there was still darkness, and she beheld the stone already taken away from the memorial tomb.2
  2. Therefore she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple,3 for whom Jesus had affection, and she said to them: “They have taken away the Lord[a] out of the memorial tomb,4 and we do not know where they have laid him.”
  3. ¶ Then Peter5 and the other disciple went out and started for the memorial tomb.
  4. Yes, the two together began to run; but the other disciple ran ahead of Peter with greater speed and reached the memorial tomb first.
  5. And, stooping forward, he beheld the bandages lying,6 yet he did not go in.
  6. Then Simon Peter also came following him, and he entered into the memorial tomb. And he viewed the bandages lying,7
  7. also the cloth that had been upon his head not lying with the bandages but separately rolled up in one place.
  8. At that time, therefore, the other disciple who had reached the memorial tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed.
  9. For they did not yet discern the scripture that he must rise from the dead.8
  10. And so the disciples went back to their homes.
  11. ¶ Mary, however, kept standing outside near the memorial tomb, weeping. Then, while she was weeping, she stooped forward to look into the memorial tomb
  12. and she viewed two angels9 in white sitting one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been lying.
  13. And they said to her: “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them: “They have taken my Lord away, and I do not know where they have laid him.”
  14. After saying these things, she turned back and viewed Jesus standing, but she did not discern it was Jesus.10
  15. Jesus said to her: “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?”11 She, imagining it was the gardener, said to him: “Sir, if you have carried him off, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”
  16. Jesus said to her: “Mary!”12 Upon turning around, she said to him, in Hebrew: “Rab·boʹni!”[b]13 (which means “Teacher!”)
  17. Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me. For I have not yet ascended to the Father. But be on your way to my brothers14 and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father15 and YOUR Father and to my God16 and YOUR God.’”17
  18. Mary Magʹda·lene came and brought the news to the disciples: “I have seen the Lord!” and that he said these things to her.18
  19. ¶ Therefore, when it was late on that day, the first of the week,19 and, although the doors were locked where the disciples were for fear20 of the Jews, Jesus came21 and stood in their midst and said to them: “May YOU have peace.”22
  20. And after he said this he showed them both his hands and his side.23 Then the disciples rejoiced24 at seeing the Lord.
  21. Jesus, therefore, said to them again: “May YOU have peace. Just as the Father has sent me forth,25 I also am sending YOU.”26
  22. And after he said this he blew upon them and said to them: “Receive holy spirit.27
  23. If YOU forgive the sins of any persons,28 they stand forgiven to them; if YOU retain those of any persons, they stand retained.”29
  24. ¶ But Thomas,30 one of the twelve, who was called The Twin,[c] was not with them when Jesus came.
  25. Consequently the other disciples would say to him: “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them: “Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails and stick my finger into the print of the nails and stick my hand into his side,31 I will certainly not believe.”32
  26. ¶ Well, eight days later his disciples were again indoors, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and he stood in their midst and said: “May YOU have peace.”33
  27. Next he said to Thomas: “Put your finger here, and see my hands, and take your hand34 and stick it into my side, and stop being unbelieving but become believing.”
  28. In answer Thomas said to him: “My Lord and my God!”35
  29. Jesus said to him: “Because you have seen me have you believed? Happy are those who do not see and yet believe.”36
  30. ¶ To be sure, Jesus performed many other signs also before the disciples, which are not written down in this scroll.37
  31. But these have been written down38 that YOU may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God, and that, because of believing,39 YOU may have life by means of his name.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
