Chapter 9 of JeremiahNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ O that my head were waters, and that my eyes were a source of tears!1 Then I could weep day and night for the slain ones of the daughter of my people.[a]2
  2. ¶ O that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of travelers!3 Then I would leave my people and go away from them, for all of them are adulterers,[b]4 a solemn assembly of treacherous dealers;5
  3. and they bend their tongue as their bow in falsehood;6 but not for faithfulness have they proved mighty in the land.[c]
¶ “For from badness to badness they went forth, and they ignored even me,”7 is the utterance of Jehovah.
  4. ¶ “Guard yourselves each one against his own companion,8 and put YOUR trust in no brother at all.9 For even every brother would positively supplant,10 and every companion himself would walk around as a mere slanderer,11
  5. and they keep trifling each one with his companion;12 and they speak no truth at all. They have taught their tongue to speak falsehood.13 They have tired themselves out merely in doing wrong.14
  6. ¶ “Your sitting is in the midst of deception.15 Through deception they have refused to know me,”16 is the utterance of Jehovah.
  7. ¶ Therefore this is what Jehovah of armies has said: “Here I am smelting them, and I have to examine them,17 because how otherwise shall I act on account of the daughter of my people?18
  8. Their tongue is a slaughtering arrow.[d]19 Deception is what it has spoken. With his mouth, peace is what [a person] keeps speaking with his own companion; but within himself he sets his ambush.”20
  9. ¶ “Because of these things should I not hold an accounting with them?” is the utterance of Jehovah. “Or upon a nation that is like this should not my soul avenge itself?21
  10. Over the mountains I shall raise a weeping and lamentation,22 and over the pasture grounds of the wilderness a dirge; for they will have been burned23 so that there is no man passing through and people actually will not hear the sound of livestock.24 Both the flying creature of the heavens and the beast will have fled; they will have gone.25
  11. And I will make Jerusalem piles of stones,26 the lair of jackals;27 and the cities of Judah I shall make a desolate waste, without an inhabitant.28
  12. ¶ “Who is the man that is wise, that he may understand this, even the one to whom the mouth of Jehovah has spoken, that he may tell it?29 On what account should the land actually perish, be actually burned like the wilderness without anyone passing through?”30
  13. ¶ And Jehovah proceeded to say: “On account of their leaving my law that I gave [to be] before them, and [because] they have not obeyed my voice and have not walked in it,[e]31
  14. but they kept on walking after the stubbornness of their heart32 and after the Baʹal images,[f]33 about which their fathers had taught them;34
  15. therefore this is what Jehovah of armies, the God[g] of Israel, has said, ‘Here I am making them, that is, this people, eat wormwood,35 and I will make them drink poisoned water;36
  16. and I will scatter them among the nations that neither they nor their fathers have known,37 and I will send after them the sword until I shall have exterminated them.’38
  17. ¶ “This is what Jehovah of armies has said, ‘Behave with understanding, YOU people, and call the dirge-chanting women,39 that they may come; and send even to the skilled[h] women, that they may come,40
  18. and that they may hurry and raise up over us a lamentation. And may our eyes run down with tears and our own beaming eyes trickle with waters.41
  19. For the voice of lamentation is what has been heard from Zion:42 “How we have been despoiled!43 How much we have felt shame! For we have left the land; for they[i] have thrown away our residences.”[j]44
  20. But hear, O YOU women, the word of Jehovah, and may YOUR ear take the word of his mouth. Then teach YOUR daughters a lamentation,45 and each woman her companion a dirge.46
  21. For death has come up through our windows; it has come into our dwelling towers, in order to cut off the child from the street, the young men from the public squares.’47
  22. ¶ “Speak, ‘This is what the utterance of Jehovah is: “The dead bodies of mankind[k] must also fall like manure upon the face of the field and like a row of newly cut grain after the reaper, with no one to do the gathering up.”’”48
  23. ¶ This is what Jehovah has said: “Let not the wise man brag about himself because of his wisdom,49 and let not the mighty man brag about himself because of his mightiness.50 Let not the rich man brag about himself because of his riches.”51
  24. ¶ “But let the one bragging about himself brag about himself because of this very thing, the having of insight52 and the having of knowledge of me, that I am Jehovah,53 the One exercising loving-kindness, justice[l] and righteousness in the earth;54 for in these things I do take delight,”55 is the utterance of Jehovah.
  25. ¶ “Look! Days are coming,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I will hold an accounting with everyone circumcised [but still] in uncircumcision,[m]56
  26. upon Egypt57 and upon Judah58 and upon Eʹdom59 and upon the sons of Amʹmon60 and upon Moʹab61 and upon all those with hair clipped at the temples who are dwelling in the wilderness;62 for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.”63

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
