Chapter 51 of JeremiahNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ This is what Jehovah has said: “Here I am rousing up against Babylon1 and against the inhabitants of Leb-kaʹmai[a] a ruinous wind;2
  2. and I will send to Babylon winnowers who will certainly winnow her and who will make her land empty;3 for they will actually prove to be against her on all sides in the day of calamity.4
  3. ¶ “Let the one treading his bow do no treading.5 And let no one raise himself up in his coat of mail.
¶ “And do not YOU men show any compassion for her young men.6 Devote to destruction all her army.7
  4. And they must fall slain in the land of the Chal·deʹans8 and pierced through in her streets.9
  5. ¶ “For Israel and Judah10 are not widowed from their God,[b] from Jehovah of armies.11 For the land of those has been full of guilt from the standpoint of the Holy One of Israel.12
  6. ¶ “FLEE out of the midst of Babylon,13 and provide escape each one for his own soul.14 Do not be rendered inanimate[c] through her error.15 For it is the time of vengeance belonging to Jehovah.16 There is treatment that he is paying back to her.17
  7. Babylon has been a golden cup in the hand of Jehovah,18 she[d] making all the earth drunk.19 From her[e] wine the nations have drunk.20 That is why the nations keep acting crazed.21
  8. Suddenly Babylon has fallen, so that she is broken.22 Howl over her, YOU people.23 Take balsam for her pain.24 Perhaps she may be healed.”
  9. ¶ “We would have healed Babylon, but she has not been healed. Leave her, YOU people,25 and let us go each one to his own land.26 For clear to the heavens her judgment has reached, and it has been lifted up to the cloudy skies.27
  10. Jehovah has brought forth deeds of righteousness for us.28 Come and do let us recount in Zion the work of Jehovah our God.”29
  11. ¶ “Polish the arrows.30 Fill the circular shields, O men. Jehovah has aroused the spirit of the kings of the Medes,31 because it is against Babylon that his idea is,32 in order to bring her to ruin. For it is the vengeance of Jehovah, the vengeance for his temple.33
  12. Against the walls of Babylon lift up a signal.[f]34 Make strong the watch.[g]35 Post the watchmen.[h] Make ready those lying in ambush.36 For Jehovah both has formed the idea and will certainly do what he has spoken against the inhabitants of Babylon.”37
  13. ¶ “O woman residing on abounding waters,38 abundant in treasures,39 your end has come, the measure40 of your profit making.41
  14. Jehovah of armies has sworn by his own soul,[i]42 ‘I will fill you with men,[j] like the locusts,[k]43 and they will certainly sing forth over you a shout.’44
  15. He is the Maker of the earth by his power,45 the One firmly establishing the productive land[l]46 by his wisdom,47 and the One who by his understanding48 stretched out the heavens.49
  16. At [his] voice there is a giving by him of a turmoil of waters in the heavens, and he causes vapors[m] to ascend from the extremity[n] of the earth.50 He has made even sluices[o] for the rain,51 and he brings forth the wind[p] from his storehouses.
  17. Every man has behaved so unreasoningly as not to know.52 Every metalworker will feel ashamed because of the carved image;53 for his molten image is a falsehood,54 and there is no spirit[q] in them.55
  18. They are vanity,[r]56 a work of mockery.57 In the time of their being given attention they will perish.58
  19. ¶ “The Share of Jacob is not like these things,59 for he is the Former of everything,60 even the staff[s] of his inheritance.61 Jehovah of armies is his name.62
  20. ¶ “You are a club for me, as weapons of war,63 and by you I shall certainly dash nations to pieces, and by you I will bring kingdoms to ruin.
  21. And by you I will dash the horse and his rider to pieces, and by you I will dash the war chariot and its rider to pieces.64
  22. And by you I will dash man and woman to pieces, and by you I will dash old man and boy to pieces, and by you I will dash young man and virgin to pieces.
  23. And by you I will dash shepherd and his drove to pieces, and by you I will dash farmer and his span [of animals] to pieces, and by you I will dash governors and deputy rulers to pieces.
  24. And I will pay back to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chal·deʹa[t] all their badness that they have committed in Zion before the eyes of YOU people,”65 is the utterance of Jehovah.
  25. ¶ “Here I am against you,66 O ruinous mountain,”67 is the utterance of Jehovah, “you ruiner of the whole earth;68 and I will stretch out my hand against you and roll you away from the crags and make you a burnt-out mountain.”69
  26. ¶ “And people will not take from you a stone for a corner or a stone for foundations,70 because desolate wastes to time indefinite are what you will become,”71 is the utterance of Jehovah.
  27. ¶ “Lift up a signal[u] in the land, O men.72 Blow a horn[v] among the nations. Sanctify73 against her the nations. Summon against her the kingdoms of Arʹa·rat,74 Minʹni and Ashʹke·naz.75 Commission against her a recruiting officer. Make the horses76 come up like bristly locusts.[w]
  28. Sanctify against her the nations, the kings of Meʹdi·a,77 its governors and all its deputy rulers and all the land of each one’s[x] dominion.
  29. And let the earth rock and be in severe pain,78 for against Babylon the thoughts of Jehovah have risen up to make the land of Babylon an object of astonishment, without an inhabitant.79
  30. ¶ “The mighty men of Babylon have ceased to fight. They have kept sitting in the strong places. Their mightiness has run dry.80 They have become women.81 Her residences have been set[y] on fire. Her bars have been broken.82
  31. ¶ “One runner runs to meet another runner, and one reporter to meet another reporter,83 to report to the king of Babylon that his city has been captured at every end,[z]84
  32. and that the fords themselves have been seized,85 and the papyrus boats[aa] they have burned with fire, and the men of war themselves have become disturbed.”86
  33. ¶ For this is what Jehovah of armies, the God of Israel, has said: “The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor.87 It is the time to tread her down solid. Yet a little while and the time of the harvest must come for her.”88
  34. ¶ “Neb·u·chad·rezʹzar the king of Babylon has eaten me up;89 he has thrown me into confusion. He has set me as an empty vessel. He has swallowed me down like a big snake;[ab]90 he has filled his abdomen with my pleasant things. He has rinsed me[ac] away.
  35. ‘The violence done to me and [to] my organism be upon Babylon!’ the inhabitress of Zion will say.91 ‘And my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chal·deʹa!’ Jerusalem will say.”92
  36. ¶ Therefore this is what Jehovah has said: “Here I am conducting your[ad] legal case,93 and I shall certainly execute vengeance for you.94 And I will dry up her sea, and I will make her wells dry.95
  37. And Babylon must become piles of stones,96 the lair of jackals,97 an object of astonishment and something to whistle at, without an inhabitant.98
  38. All together they will roar just like maned young lions. They will certainly growl like the whelps of lions.”
  39. ¶ “When they are heated I shall set their banquets and I will make them drunk, in order that they may exult;[ae]99 and they must sleep an indefinitely lasting sleep,[af] from which they will not wake up,”100 is the utterance of Jehovah.
  40. “I shall bring them down like male sheep to the slaughtering, like rams along with the he-goats.”101
  41. ¶ “O how Sheʹshach[ag] has been captured,102 and how the Praise of the whole earth gets to be seized!103 How Babylon has become a mere object of astonishment among the nations!104
  42. The sea has come up even over Babylon. By the multitude of its waves she has been covered.105
  43. Her cities have become an object of astonishment, a waterless land and a desert plain.106 As a land, in them[ah] no man[ai] will dwell, and through them no son of mankind[aj] will pass.107
  44. And I will turn my attention upon Bel[ak]108 in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth what he has swallowed.109 And to him nations will stream no more.110 Also, the wall itself of Babylon must fall.111
  45. ¶ “Get out of the midst of her, O my people,112 and provide each one his soul with escape113 from the burning anger of Jehovah.114
  46. Or otherwise YOUR heart will be timid,115 and YOU will become afraid because of the report that is to be heard in the land. And in one year the report will actually come, and after it in another year there will be the report and violence in the earth and ruler against ruler.
  47. Therefore, look! there are days coming, and I will turn my attention upon the graven images of Babylon;116 and all her own land will become ashamed, and all her own slain ones will fall in the midst of her.117
  48. ¶ “And over Babylon the heavens and the earth and all that is in them will certainly cry out joyfully,118 for out of the north there will come to her the despoilers,”119 is the utterance of Jehovah.
  49. “Not only was Babylon the cause for the slain ones of Israel to fall120 but also at Babylon the slain ones of all the earth have fallen.121
  50. ¶ “YOU escapees from the sword, keep going. Do not stand still.122 From far away remember Jehovah,123 and may Jerusalem herself come up into YOUR heart.”124
  51. ¶ “We have been put to shame,125 for we have heard reproach.126 Humiliation has covered our faces,127 for strangers have come against the holy places of the house of Jehovah.”128
  52. ¶ “Therefore, look! there are days coming,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I will turn my attention upon her graven images,129 and throughout all her land the pierced one will groan.”130
  53. ¶ “Even if Babylon should ascend to the heavens131 and even if she should make the height of her strength unapproachable,132 from me the despoilers will come to her,”133 is the utterance of Jehovah.
  54. ¶ “Listen! There is an outcry from Babylon,134 and a great crash from the land of the Chal·deʹans,135
  55. for Jehovah is despoiling Babylon, and he will certainly destroy out of her the great voice,136 and their waves will actually be boisterous like many waters.137 The noise of their voice will certainly be given out.
  56. For there must come upon her, upon Babylon, the despoiler,138 and her mighty men will certainly be captured.139 Their bows must be shattered,140 for Jehovah is a God of recompenses.141 Without fail he will repay.142
  57. And I will make her princes and her wise ones, her governors and her deputy rulers and her mighty men drunk,143 and they must sleep an indefinitely lasting sleep,[al] from which they will not wake up,”144 is the utterance of the King,145 whose name is Jehovah of armies.146
  58. ¶ This is what Jehovah of armies has said: “The wall of Babylon, although broad, will without fail be demolished;[am]147 and her gates, although high, will be set aflame with fire.148 And the peoples will have to toil for simply nothing,149 and national groups simply for the fire;150 and they will just tire themselves out.”
  59. ¶ The word that Jeremiah the prophet commanded Se·raiʹah the son of Ne·riʹah151 the son of Mah·seiʹah152 when he went with[an] Zed·e·kiʹah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his being king; and Se·raiʹah was the quartermaster.[ao]
  60. And Jeremiah proceeded to write in one book153 all the calamity that would come upon Babylon, even all these words written against Babylon.
  61. Furthermore, Jeremiah said to Se·raiʹah: “As soon as you come to Babylon and actually see [her], you must also read aloud all these words.154
  62. And you must say, ‘O Jehovah, you yourself have spoken against this place, in order to cut it off so that there may come to be in it no inhabitant,155 either man[ap] or even domestic animal, but that she may become mere desolate wastes to time indefinite.’
  63. And it must occur that when you will have completed reading this book, you will tie to it a stone, and you must pitch it into the midst of the Eu·phraʹtes.156
  64. And you must say, ‘This is how Babylon will sink down and never rise up because of the calamity that I am bringing in upon her;157 and they will certainly tire themselves out.’”158
¶ Down to this point are the words of Jeremiah.

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
