Chapter 49 of JeremiahNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ For the sons of Amʹmon1 this is what Jehovah has said: “Are there no sons that Israel has, or is there no inheritor that he has? Why is it that Malʹcam[a]2 has taken possession of Gad,[b]3 and his own people have taken up dwelling in [Israel’s][c] very cities?”4
  2. ¶ “‘Therefore, look! there are days coming,’ is the utterance of Jehovah, ‘and I will cause the alarm signal of war5 to be heard even against Rabʹbah6 of the sons of Amʹmon; and she will certainly become a mound of a desolate waste,7 and her dependent towns[d]8 themselves will be set aflame in the very fire.’9
¶ “‘And Israel will actually take possession of those in possession of him,’10 Jehovah has said.
  3. ¶ “‘Howl,11 O Heshʹbon,12 for Aʹi has been despoiled! Cry out, O dependent towns of Rabʹbah. Gird sackcloth on yourselves.13 Wail, and rove about among the stone pens, for Malʹcam himself will go even into exile,14 his priests and his princes, all together.15
  4. Why do you brag about the low plains, your flowing low plain,16 O daughter unfaithful, you the one trusting in her treasures,17 [saying:] “Who will come to me?”’”18
  5. ¶ “‘Here I am bringing in upon you[e] a dreadful thing,’19 is the utterance of the Sovereign20 Lord, Jehovah of armies, ‘from all those round about you. And YOU people will certainly be dispersed, each one in his own direction,21 and there will be no one collecting together those running away.’”
  6. ¶ “‘But afterward I shall gather the captive ones of the sons of Amʹmon,’22 is the utterance of Jehovah.”
  7. ¶ For Eʹdom this is what Jehovah of armies has said: “Is there no longer any wisdom23 in Teʹman?24 Has counsel perished from those having understanding?[f] Has their wisdom gone to putrefying?25
  8. Flee!26 Let yourselves give way! Go down deep in order to dwell,27 O inhabitants of Deʹdan!28 For the disaster of Eʹsau I will bring in upon him, the time that I must turn my attention to him.29
  9. If grape gatherers themselves actually came in to you, would they not let some gleanings remain? If thieves [came in] by night, they would certainly cause only as much ruin as they wanted.30
  10. But as for me, I will strip Eʹsau bare.31 I will uncover his places of concealment,32 and one will not be able to hide oneself.33 His offspring and his brothers and his neighbors will certainly be despoiled,34 and he will not be.35
  11. Do leave your fatherless boys.36 I myself shall preserve [them] alive, and your own widows will trust even in me.”37
  12. ¶ For this is what Jehovah has said: “Look! Although it is not their custom to drink the cup, they will drink without fail.38 And you yourself, will you be absolutely left unpunished? You will not be left unpunished, for you will drink without fail.”39
  13. ¶ “For by my own self I have sworn,”40 is the utterance of Jehovah, “that nothing but an object of astonishment,41 a reproach, a devastation and a malediction will Bozʹrah42 become; and all her own cities will become devastated places to time indefinite.”43
  14. ¶ There is a report that I have heard from Jehovah, and there is an envoy that is sent among the nations, [saying:] “Collect yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to battle.”44
  15. ¶ “For, look! I have made you small indeed among the nations, despised among mankind.[g]45
  16. The shuddering you caused has deceived you, the presumptuousness of your heart,46 O you who are residing in the retreats of the crag, holding the height of the hill. Although you build your nest high up just like an eagle,47 down from there I shall bring you,”48 is the utterance of Jehovah.
  17. “And Eʹdom must become an object of astonishment.49 Everyone passing along by her will stare in astonishment and whistle on account of all her plagues.50
  18. Just as in the overthrow of Sodʹom and Go·morʹrah and her neighbor [towns],”51 Jehovah has said, “no man will dwell there, and no son of mankind[h] will reside in her as an alien.52
  19. ¶ “Look! Someone will come up just like a lion53 from the proud [thickets] along the Jordan to the durable abiding place,54 but in a moment I will make him run away from her.55 And the one who is chosen I shall appoint over her. For who is like me,56 and who will challenge me,57 and who, now, is the shepherd that can stand before me?58
  20. Therefore hear, O men, the counsel of Jehovah that he has formulated against Eʹdom,59 and his thoughts that he has thought out against the inhabitants of Teʹman:60 Surely the little ones of the flock will be dragged about. Surely on account of them he will make their dwelling place become desolate.61
  21. At the sound of their falling the earth has begun to rock.62 There is an outcry!63 The sound of it has been heard even at the Red Sea.64
  22. Look! Just like an eagle someone will ascend and pounce down,65 and he will spread out his wings over Bozʹrah;66 and the heart of the mighty men of Eʹdom will actually become in that day like the heart of the wife having distress in childbirth.”67
  23. ¶ For Damascus:68 “Haʹmath69 and Arʹpad70 have become ashamed, for it is a bad report that they have heard. They have disintegrated.71 In the sea there is anxious care; it is not able to keep undisturbed.72
  24. Damascus has lost courage. She has turned to flee, and sheer panic has seized her.73 Distress and birth pangs themselves have taken hold of her, as with a woman that is giving birth.74
  25. How is it that the city of praise has not been abandoned, the town of exultation?75
  26. ¶ “Therefore her young men will fall in her public squares, and all the men of war themselves will be brought to silence in that day,”76 is the utterance of Jehovah of armies.
  27. “And I will set a fire ablaze on the wall of Damascus, and it will certainly devour the dwelling towers of Ben-haʹdad.”77
  28. ¶ For Keʹdar78 and the kingdoms of Haʹzor,79 which Neb·u·chad·rezʹzar the king of Babylon struck down,80 this is what Jehovah has said: “Rise up, go up to Keʹdar, O men, and despoil the sons of the East.81
  29. Their own tents82 and their own flocks83 will be taken, their tent cloths84 and all their articles. And their own camels85 will be carried off from them. And they will certainly cry out to them, ‘Fright is all around!’”86
  30. ¶ “Flee, take flight far away; go down deep in order to dwell, O inhabitants of Haʹzor,”87 is the utterance of Jehovah. “For Neb·u·chad·rezʹzar the king of Babylon88 has formulated a counsel even against YOU and has thought out against YOU[i] a thought.”
  31. ¶ “Rise up, O men, go up against the nation that is at ease,89 dwelling in security!”90 is the utterance of Jehovah.
¶ “No doors and no bar does it have. Solitary they reside.91
  32. And their camels92 must become a plunder, and the multitude of their livestock a spoil. And I will scatter them to every wind,93 those who have their hair clipped at the temples;94 and from all regions near it I shall bring in their disaster,” is the utterance of Jehovah.
  33. “And Haʹzor95 must become the lair of jackals,96 a desolate waste to time indefinite. No man[j] will dwell there, and in her no son of mankind[k] will reside as an alien.”97
  34. ¶ This is what occurred as the word of Jehovah to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Eʹlam98 in the beginning of the kingship of Zed·e·kiʹah99 the king of Judah, saying:
  35. “This is what Jehovah of armies has said, ‘Here I am breaking the bow of Eʹlam,100 the beginning of their mightiness.
  36. And I will bring in upon Eʹlam the four winds from the four extremities of the heavens.101 And I will scatter them to all these winds,102 and there will prove to be no nation to which the dispersed103 ones of Eʹlam[l] will not come.’”
  37. ¶ “And I will shatter the Eʹlam·ites before their enemies and before those seeking for their soul; and I will bring upon them a calamity, my burning anger,”104 is the utterance of Jehovah. “And I will send after them the sword until I shall have exterminated them.”105
  38. ¶ “And I will set my throne in Eʹlam,106 and I will destroy out of there the king and the princes,” is the utterance of Jehovah.
  39. ¶ “And it will certainly occur in the final part of the days107 that I shall gather the captive ones of Eʹlam,”108 is the utterance of Jehovah.

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
