Chapter 38 of JeremiahNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And Sheph·a·tiʹah the son of Matʹtan and Ged·a·liʹah[a] the son of Pashʹhur and Juʹcal1 the son of Shel·e·miʹah[b] and Pashʹhur the son of Mal·chiʹjah2 got to hear the words that Jeremiah was speaking to all the people,3 saying:
  2. “This is what Jehovah has said, ‘The one continuing to dwell in this city is the one that will die by the sword,4 by the famine5 and by the pestilence.6 But the one going out to the Chal·deʹans is the one that will keep living and that will certainly come to have his soul as a spoil and alive.’7
  3. This is what Jehovah has said, ‘Without fail this city will be given into the hand of the military force of the king of Babylon, and he will certainly capture it.’”8
  4. ¶ And the princes began to say to the king: “Let this man,[c] please, be put to death,9 for that is how he is weakening the hands of the men of war who are left remaining in this city and the hands of all the people, by speaking to them according to these words.10 For this man is one seeking not for the peace of this people but for calamity.”
  5. So King Zed·e·kiʹah said: “Look! He is in YOUR hands. For there is nothing at all in which the king himself can prevail against YOU.”11
  6. ¶ And they proceeded to take Jeremiah and throw him into the cistern of Mal·chiʹjah[d]12 the son of the king, which was in the Courtyard of the Guard.13 So they let Jeremiah down by means of ropes. Now in the cistern there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah began to sink down into the mire.14
  7. ¶ And Eʹbed-melʹech the E·thi·oʹpi·an,[e]15 a man who was a eunuch and who was in the house of the king, got to hear that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern; and the king was sitting in the Gate of Benjamin.16
  8. So Eʹbed-melʹech went out of the house of the king and spoke to the king, saying:
  9. “O my lord the king, these men have done bad in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have thrown into the cistern, so that he will die17 where he is because of the famine.18 For there is no bread anymore in the city.”
  10. ¶ Then the king commanded Eʹbed-melʹech the E·thi·oʹpi·an, saying: “Take in your charge[f] from this place thirty men, and you must get Jeremiah the prophet up out of the cistern before he dies.”19
  11. Accordingly Eʹbed-melʹech took the men in his charge and went into the house of the king to beneath the treasury20 and took from there worn-out rags and worn-out pieces of cloth and let them down to Jeremiah into the cistern21 by means of the ropes.
  12. Then Eʹbed-melʹech the E·thi·oʹpi·an said to Jeremiah: “Put, please, the worn-out rags and the pieces of cloth under your armpits beneath the ropes.” Jeremiah now did so.22
  13. Finally they drew out Jeremiah by means of the ropes and brought him up out of the cistern. And Jeremiah continued to dwell in the Courtyard of the Guard.23
  14. ¶ And King Zed·e·kiʹah proceeded to send and take Jeremiah the prophet to him24 to the third entryway,25 which is in the house of Jehovah,26 and then the king said to Jeremiah: “I am asking something of you. Do not hide from me anything.”27
  15. At this Jeremiah said to Zed·e·kiʹah: “In case I should tell you, will you not without fail put me to death? And in case I advise you, you will not listen to me.”28
  16. At that King Zed·e·kiʹah swore to Jeremiah in the place of concealment, saying: “As Jehovah is alive, who has made for us this soul,29 I will not put you to death, and I will not give you into the hand of these men who are seeking for your soul.”30
  17. ¶ Jeremiah now said to Zed·e·kiʹah: “This is what Jehovah, the God of armies,31 the God of Israel,32 has said, ‘If you will without fail go out to the princes of the king of Babylon, your soul will also certainly keep living and this city itself will not be burned with fire, and you yourself and your household will certainly keep living.33
  18. But if you will not go out to the princes of the king of Babylon, this city must also be given into the hand of the Chal·deʹans, and they will actually burn it with fire,34 and you yourself will not escape out of their hand.’”35
  19. ¶ Then King Zed·e·kiʹah said to Jeremiah: “I am in fright of the Jews that have fallen away to the Chal·deʹans,36 for fear that they might give me into their hand and they might actually deal abusively with me.”37
  20. But Jeremiah said: “They will do no such giving. Obey, please, the voice of Jehovah in what I am speaking to you, and it will go well with you,38 and your soul will continue to live.
  21. But if you are refusing to go out,39 this is the thing that Jehovah has caused me to see:
  22. And, look! all the women that have been left remaining in the house of the king of Judah40 are being brought out to the princes of the king of Babylon,41 and they are saying,
¶ ‘The men at peace with you have allured you42 and prevailed over you.43
¶ They have caused your foot to sink down into the very ooze; they have retreated in the opposite direction.’44
  23. ¶ And all your wives and your sons they are bringing out to the Chal·deʹans, and you yourself will not escape out of their hand,45 but by the hand of the king of Babylon you will be seized, and because of you this city will be burned[g] with fire.”46
  24. ¶ And Zed·e·kiʹah proceeded to say to Jeremiah: “May no man at all get to know about these things, so that you do not die.
  25. And in case the princes47 hear that I have spoken with you and they actually come in to you and say to you, ‘Do tell us, please, What did you speak about to the king? Do not hide anything from us, and we shall not put you to death. And what did the king speak about to you?’
  26. you must also say to them, ‘I was letting my request for favor fall before the king, that he should not send me back to the house of Je·honʹa·than48 to die there.’”
  27. ¶ In time all the princes came in to Jeremiah and began questioning him. In turn, he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded.49 So they became silent before him, for the matter was not heard.
  28. And Jeremiah continued to dwell in the Courtyard of the Guard50 until the day that Jerusalem was captured.51 And it occurred just when Jerusalem was captured.52

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
