Chapter 1 of Isaiah—New World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ The vision1 of Isaiah[a]2 the son of Aʹmoz[b] that he visioned concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uz·ziʹah,[c]3 Joʹtham,[d]4 Aʹhaz[e]5 [and] Hez·e·kiʹah,[f]6 kings of Judah:7
  2. ¶ Hear,8 O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for Jehovah himself has spoken: “Sons I have brought up and raised,9 but they themselves have revolted[g] against me.10
  3. A bull well knows its buyer, and the ass the manger of its owner;[h] Israel itself has not known,11 my own people have not behaved understandingly.”12
  4. ¶ Woe to the sinful nation,13 the people heavy with error, an evildoing seed,14 ruinous sons!15 They have left Jehovah,16 they have treated the Holy One of Israel with disrespect,17 they have turned backwards.18
  5. Where else will YOU be struck still more,19 in that YOU add more revolt?20 The whole head is in a sick condition, and the whole heart is feeble.21
  6. From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no sound spot in it.22 Wounds and bruises and fresh stripes—they have not been squeezed out or bound up, nor has there been a softening with oil.23
  7. YOUR land is a desolation,24 YOUR cities are burned with fire;25 YOUR ground—right in front of YOU strangers26 are eating it up,27 and the desolation is like an overthrow by strangers.28
  8. And the daughter of Zion29 has been left remaining like a booth in a vineyard, like a lookout hut in a field of cucumbers, like a blockaded city.30
  9. Unless Jehovah of armies himself had left remaining to us just a few survivors,31 we should have become[i] just like Sodʹom, we should have resembled Go·morʹrah itself.32
  10. ¶ Hear the word of Jehovah,33 YOU dictators34 of Sodʹom.35 Give ear to the law of our God, YOU people of Go·morʹrah.
  11. “Of what benefit to me is the multitude of YOUR sacrifices?” says Jehovah. “I have had enough of whole burnt offerings36 of rams37 and the fat of well-fed animals;38 and in the blood39 of young bulls and male lambs and he-goats40 I have taken no delight.41
  12. When YOU people keep coming in to see my face,42 who is it that has required this from YOUR hand, to trample my courtyards?43
  13. Stop bringing in any more valueless grain offerings.44 Incense—it is something detestable to me.45 New moon46 and sabbath,47 the calling of a convention[j]48—I cannot put up with the [use of] uncanny power[k]49 along with the solemn assembly.
  14. YOUR new moons and YOUR festal seasons my soul has hated.50 To me they have become a burden;51 I have become tired of bearing [them].52
  15. And when YOU spread out YOUR palms,53 I hide my eyes from YOU.54 Even though YOU make many prayers,55 I am not listening;56 with bloodshed[l] YOUR very hands have become filled.57
  16. Wash yourselves;58 make yourselves clean;59 remove the badness of YOUR dealings from in front of my eyes;60 cease to do bad.61
  17. Learn to do good;62 search for justice;63 set right the oppressor;64 render judgment for the fatherless boy;65 plead the cause of the widow.”66
  18. ¶ “Come, now, YOU people, and let us set matters straight between us,” says Jehovah.67 “Though the sins of YOU people should prove to be as scarlet,[m] they will be made white just like snow;68 though they should be red like crimson cloth, they will become even like wool.
  19. If YOU people show willingness and do listen, the good of the land[n] YOU will eat.69
  20. But if YOU people refuse70 and are actually rebellious, with a sword YOU will be eaten up; for the very mouth of Jehovah has spoken [it].”71
  21. ¶ O how the faithful town[o]72 has become a prostitute!73 She was full of justice;[p]74 righteousness itself used to lodge in her,75 but now murderers.76
  22. Your[q] silver itself has become scummy dross.77 Your wheat beer[r] is diluted with water.78
  23. Your princes are stubborn and partners with thieves.79 Every one of them is a lover of a bribe80 and a chaser after gifts.81 For a fatherless boy they do not render judgment; and even the legal case of a widow does not get admittance to them.82
  24. ¶ Therefore the utterance of the [true] Lord,[s] Jehovah of armies, the Powerful One of Israel,83 is: “Aha! I shall relieve myself of my adversaries, and I will avenge84 myself on my enemies.85
  25. And I will turn back my hand upon[t] you,[u] and I shall smelt away your scummy dross as with lye, and I will remove all your waste products.86
  26. And I will bring back again judges for you as at the first, and counselors for you as at the start.87 After this you will be called City of Righteousness, Faithful Town.88
  27. With justice[v] Zion herself will be redeemed,89 and those returning of her, with righteousness.90
  28. And the crash of revolters and that of sinful ones will be at the same time,91 and those leaving Jehovah will come to their finish.92
  29. For they will be ashamed of the mighty trees that YOU people desired,93 and YOU will be abashed because of the gardens that YOU have chosen.94
  30. For YOU will become like a big tree the foliage of which is withering,95 and like a garden that has no water.
  31. And the vigorous man will certainly become tow,96 and the product of his activity a spark; and both of them will certainly go up in flames at the same time, with no one to do the extinguishing.”97

    The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

    Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible,whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things,and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

    The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

      Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

      Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

    Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
