Chapter 66 of Isaiah—New World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ This is what Jehovah has said: “The heavens are my throne,1 and the earth is my footstool.2 Where, then, is the house that YOU people can build for me,3 and where, then, is the place as a resting-place for me?”4
  2. ¶ “Now all these things my own hand has made, so that all these came to be,”[a]5 is the utterance of Jehovah. “To this one, then, I shall look, to the one afflicted and contrite in spirit6 and trembling at[b] my word.7
  3. ¶ “The one slaughtering the bull is as one striking down a man.[c]8 The one sacrificing the sheep is as one breaking the neck of a dog.9 The one offering up a gift—the blood of a pig!10 The one presenting a memorial of frankincense11 is as one saying a blessing with uncanny words.[d]12 They are also the ones that have chosen their own ways, and in their disgusting things their very soul has taken a delight.13
  4. I myself, in turn, shall choose ways of ill-treating them;14 and the things frightful to them I shall bring upon them;15 for the reason that I called, but there was no one answering; I spoke, but there were none that listened;16 and they kept on doing what was bad in my eyes, and the thing in which I took no delight they chose.”17
  5. ¶ Hear the word of Jehovah, YOU men who are trembling at his word:18 “YOUR brothers that are hating YOU,19 that are excluding YOU by reason of my name,20 said, ‘May Jehovah be glorified!’21 He must also appear with rejoicing on YOUR part,22 and they are the ones that will be put to shame.”23
  6. ¶ There is a sound of uproar out of the city, a sound out of the temple!24 It is the sound of Jehovah repaying what is deserved to his enemies.25
  7. ¶ Before she began to come into labor pains she gave birth.26 Before birth pangs could come to her, she even gave deliverance to a male child.27
  8. Who has heard of a thing like this?28 Who has seen things like these?29 Will a land30 be brought forth with labor pains in one day?31 Or will a nation32 be born at one time?[e]33 For Zion has come into labor pains as well as given birth to her sons.
  9. ¶ “As for me, shall I cause the breaking through and not cause the giving birth?”34 says Jehovah. “Or am I causing a giving birth and do I actually cause a shutting up?” your[f] God[g] has said.
  10. ¶ Rejoice with Jerusalem and be joyful with her,35 all YOU lovers of her.36 Exult greatly with her, all YOU keeping yourselves in mourning over her;37
  11. for the reason that YOU will suck and certainly get satisfaction from the breast of full consolation by her;[h] for the reason that YOU will sip and experience exquisite delight from the teat of her glory.38
  12. For this is what Jehovah has said: “Here I am extending to her peace just like a river39 and the glory of nations just like a flooding torrent,40 and YOU will certainly suck.41 Upon the flank YOU will be carried, and upon the knees YOU will be fondled.42
  13. Like a man[i] whom his own mother keeps comforting, so I myself shall keep comforting YOU people;43 and in the case of Jerusalem YOU will be comforted.44
  14. And YOU will certainly see, and YOUR heart will be bound to exult,45 and YOUR very bones46 will sprout just like tender grass.47 And the hand of Jehovah will certainly be made known to his servants,48 but he will actually denounce his enemies.”49
  15. ¶ “For here Jehovah himself comes as a very fire,50 and his chariots are like a storm wind,51 in order to pay back his anger with sheer rage and his rebuke with flames of fire.52
  16. For as fire Jehovah himself will for a fact take up the controversy, yes, with his sword,53 against all flesh; and the slain of Jehovah will certainly become many.54
  17. Those sanctifying themselves and cleansing themselves for the gardens55 behind one[j] in the center, eating the flesh of the pig56 and the loathsome thing, even the jumping rodent,[k]57 they will all together reach their end,” is the utterance of Jehovah.
  18. “And as regards their works58 and their thoughts,59 I am coming in order to collect all the nations and tongues together;60 and they will have to come and see my glory.”61
  19. ¶ “And I will set among them a sign,[l]62 and I will send some of those who are escaped to the nations,63 [to] Tarʹshish,64 Pul,[m] and Lud,65 those drawing the bow,[n] Tuʹbal and Jaʹvan,66 the faraway islands,[o]67 who have not heard a report about me or seen my glory;68 and they will for certain tell about my glory among the nations.69
  20. And they will actually bring all YOUR brothers out of all the nations70 as a gift to Jehovah,71 on horses and in chariots and in covered wagons and on mules and on swift she-camels,72 up to my holy mountain,[p]73 Jerusalem,” Jehovah has said, “just as when the sons of Israel bring the gift in a clean vessel into the house of Jehovah.”74
  21. ¶ “And from them also I shall take some for the priests, for the Levites,”[q] Jehovah has said.
  22. ¶ “For just as the new heavens75 and the new earth76 that I am making are standing before me,”77 is the utterance of Jehovah, “so the offspring[r] of YOU people78 and the name of YOU people will keep standing.”79
  23. ¶ “And it will certainly occur that from new moon to new moon[s] and from sabbath to sabbath[t] all flesh will come in to bow down before me,”80 Jehovah has said.
  24. “And they will actually go forth and look upon the carcasses of the men[u] that were transgressing against me;81 for the very worms upon them[v] will not die and their fire itself will not be extinguished,82 and they must become something repulsive to all flesh.”83

    The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

    Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible,whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things,and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

    The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

      Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

      Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

    Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
