Chapter 29 of Isaiah—New World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ “Woe to Arʹi·el,[a]1 to Arʹi·el, the town where David encamped!2 Add year upon year, YOU people; let the festivals3 run the round.
  2. And I have to make things tight4 for Arʹi·el, and there must come to be mourning and lamentation,5 and she must become to me as the altar hearth of God.[b]6
  3. And I must encamp on all sides against you,[c] and I must lay siege to you with a palisade[d] and raise up against you siegeworks.7
  4. And you must become low so that you will speak from the very earth, and as from the dust your saying will sound low.8 And like a spirit medium your voice must become even from the earth, and from the dust your own saying will chirp.9
  5. And the crowd of those strange to you must become just like fine powder,10 and the crowd of the tyrants11 just like the chaff that is passing away.12 And it must occur in an instant, suddenly.13
  6. From Jehovah of armies you will have attention with thunder and with quaking and with a great sound, storm wind and tempest, and the flame of a devouring fire.”14
  7. ¶ And it must occur just as in a dream, in a vision of the night, regarding the crowd of all the nations that are waging war against Arʹi·el,15 even all those waging war against her, and the siege towers against her and those making things tight for her.16
  8. Yes, it must occur just as when someone hungry dreams and here he is eating, and he actually awakes and his soul is empty;17 and just as when someone thirsty dreams and here he is drinking, and he actually awakes and here he is tired and his soul is dried out; thus it will occur with the crowd of all the nations that are waging war against Mount Zion.18
  9. ¶ Linger, YOU men, and be amazed;19 blind yourselves, and be blinded.[e]20 They have become intoxicated,21 but not with wine; they have moved unsteadily, but not because of intoxicating liquor.22
  10. ¶ For upon YOU men Jehovah has poured a spirit of deep sleep;23 and he closes YOUR eyes, the prophets,24 and he has covered even YOUR heads,25 the visionaries.26
  11. And for YOU men the vision of everything becomes like the words of the book that has been sealed up,27 which they give to someone knowing the writing, saying: “Read this out loud, please,” and he has to say: “I am unable, for it is sealed up”;28
  12. and the book must be given to someone that does not know writing, [somebody] saying: “Read this out loud, please,” and he has to say: “I do not know writing at all.”
  13. ¶ And Jehovah[f] says: “For the reason that this people have come near with their mouth, and they have glorified me merely with their lips,29 and they have removed their heart itself far away from me,30 and their fear toward me becomes men’s commandment that is being taught,31
  14. therefore here I am, the One that will act wonderfully again with this people,32 in a wonderful manner and with something wonderful; and the wisdom of their wise men must perish, and the very understanding of their discreet men will conceal itself.”33
  15. ¶ Woe to those who are going very deep in concealing counsel from Jehovah himself,34 and whose deeds have occurred in a dark place,35 while they say: “Who is seeing us, and who is knowing of us?”36
  16. The perversity of YOU men! Should the potter[g] himself be accounted just like the clay?37 For should the thing made say respecting its maker: “He did not make me”?38 And does the very thing formed actually say respecting its former: “He showed no understanding”?39
  17. ¶ Is it not yet but a very little time and Lebʹa·non must be turned into an orchard40 and the orchard itself will be accounted just as a forest?41
  18. And in that day the deaf ones will certainly hear the words of the book,42 and out of the gloom and out of the darkness even the eyes of the blind ones will see.43
  19. And the meek44 ones will certainly increase their rejoicing in Jehovah himself, and even the poor ones of mankind[h] will be joyful in the Holy One of Israel himself,45
  20. because the tyrant must reach his end,46 and the bragger must come to his finish,47 and all those keeping alert to do harm48 must be cut off,
  21. those bringing a man into sin by [his] word,49 and those who lay bait even for the one reproving in the gate,50 and those who push aside the righteous one with empty arguments.51
  22. ¶ Therefore this is what Jehovah has said to the house of Jacob, he that redeemed Abraham:52 “Jacob will not now be ashamed, nor will his own face now grow pale;53
  23. for when he sees his children, the work of my hands, in the midst of him,54 they will sanctify[i] my name,55 and they will certainly sanctify the Holy One of Jacob,56 and the God of Israel[j] they will regard with awe.57
  24. And those who are erring in [their] spirit will actually get to know understanding, and even those who are grumbling will learn instruction.”58

    When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

      The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
