Chapter 9 of Esther—New World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And in the twelfth month, that is, the month of Aʹdar,1 on the thirteenth day of it, when the king’s word and his law came due to be performed,2 on the day for which the enemies of the Jews had waited to domineer over them, there was even a turning to the contrary,[a] in that the Jews themselves domineered over those hating them.3
  2. The Jews congregated themselves4 in their cities in all the jurisdictional districts of King A·has·u·eʹrus5 to lay hand on those seeking their injury,6 and not a man stood his ground before them, for the dread7 of them had fallen upon all the peoples.
  3. And all the princes8 of the jurisdictional districts and the satraps9 and the governors and the doers of the business10 that belonged to the king were assisting the Jews, for the dread11 of Morʹde·cai had fallen upon them.
  4. For Morʹde·cai was great12 in the king’s house and his fame13 was traveling throughout all the jurisdictional districts, because the man Morʹde·cai was steadily growing greater.14
  5. ¶ And the Jews went striking down all their enemies with a slaughter by the sword15 and with a killing and destruction, and they went doing to those hating them according to their liking.16
  6. And in Shuʹshan17 the castle the Jews killed and there was a destroying of five hundred men.
  7. Also, Par·shan·daʹtha and Dalʹphon and As·paʹtha
  8. and Po·raʹtha and A·daʹli·a and A·ri·daʹtha
  9. and Par·mashʹta and Arʹi·sai and Arʹi·dai and Vai·zaʹtha,
  10. the ten sons18 of Haʹman19 the son of Ham·me·daʹtha, the one showing hostility to the Jews,20 they killed; but on the plunder21 they did not lay their hand.
  11. ¶ On that day the number of those killed in Shuʹshan the castle came before the king.
  12. ¶ And the king proceeded to say to Esther the queen:22 “In Shuʹshan the castle23 the Jews have killed, and there has been a destroying[b] of five hundred men and the ten sons of Haʹman. In the rest of the jurisdictional districts24 of the king what have they done?25 And what is your petition? Let it even be given to you.26 And what is your further request?27 Let it even be done.”
  13. Accordingly Esther said: “If to the king it does seem good,28 let it be granted tomorrow also to the Jews that are in Shuʹshan to do according to the law of today;29 and let the ten sons of Haʹman be hanged upon the stake.”30
  14. So the king said for it to be done that way.31 Then a law was given out in Shuʹshan, and the ten sons of Haʹman were hanged.
  15. ¶ And the Jews that were in Shuʹshan proceeded to congregate themselves also on the fourteenth32 day of the month Aʹdar, and they got to kill in Shuʹshan three hundred men; but on the plunder they did not lay their hand.33
  16. ¶ As for the rest of the Jews that were in the jurisdictional districts34 of the king, they congregated themselves, and there was a stand[c] for their souls,[d]35 and there was an avenging36 of themselves upon[e] their enemies and a killing[f] among those hating them of seventy-five thousand; but on the plunder they did not lay their hand,
  17. on the thirteenth day of the month Aʹdar; and there was a rest on the fourteenth [day] of it, and there was a making[g] of it a day of banqueting37 and of rejoicing.38
  18. ¶ As for the Jews that were in Shuʹshan, they congregated themselves on the thirteenth39 [day] of it and on the fourteenth [day] of it, and there was a rest on the fifteenth [day] of it, and there was a making of it a day of banqueting and of rejoicing.40
  19. That is why the country Jews, inhabiting the cities of the outlying districts, were making the fourteenth day of the month Aʹdar41 a rejoicing42 and a banqueting and a good day43 and a sending of portions44 to one another.
  20. ¶ And Morʹde·cai45 proceeded to write these things and send written documents to all the Jews that were in all the jurisdictional districts46 of King A·has·u·eʹrus,[h] the nearby and the distant ones,
  21. to impose upon them the obligation47 to be regularly holding the fourteenth day of the month Aʹdar and the fifteenth day of it in each and every year,
  22. according to the days on which the Jews had rested from their enemies48 and the month that was changed for them from grief to rejoicing and from mourning49 to a good day, to hold them as days of banqueting and rejoicing and sending of portions to one another50 and of gifts to the poor people.51
  23. ¶ And the Jews accepted what they had started to do and what Morʹde·cai had written to them.
  24. For Haʹman52 the son of Ham·me·daʹtha,53 the Agʹag·ite,54 the one showing hostility55 to all the Jews, had himself schemed against the Jews to destroy them,56 and he had had Pur,57 that is, the Lot,58 cast, to disquiet them and destroy them.
  25. But when Esther[i] came in before the king he said with the written document:59 “Let his bad scheme60 that he has schemed against the Jews come back upon his own head”;61 and they hanged him and his sons upon the stake.62
  26. That is why they called these days Puʹrim, by the name of the Pur.63 That is why, according to all the words of this letter64 and what they had seen as to this and what had come upon them,
  27. the Jews imposed and accepted upon themselves and upon their offspring[j] and upon all those joining themselves to them,65 that it should not pass away, the obligation to be regularly holding these two days according to what was written concerning them and according to their appointed time in each and every year.
  28. And these days were to be remembered and held in each and every generation, each family, each jurisdictional district and each city, and these days of Puʹrim themselves should not pass away from the midst of the Jews and the commemoration66 itself of them not come to an end among their offspring.
  29. ¶ And Esther the queen, the daughter of Abʹi·ha·il,67 and Morʹde·cai the Jew proceeded to write with all forcefulness to confirm this second letter concerning Puʹrim.
  30. Then he[k] sent written documents to all the Jews in the one hundred and twenty-seven jurisdictional districts,68 the realm of A·has·u·eʹrus,69 [in] words of peace and truth,70
  31. to confirm these days of Puʹrim at their appointed times, just as Morʹde·cai the Jew and Esther the queen had imposed upon them,71 and just as they had imposed upon their own soul[l] and upon their offspring,72 the matters of the fasts73 and their cry for aid.74
  32. And the very saying of Esther confirmed these matters of Puʹrim,75 and it was written down in a book.

    The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

    Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible,whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things,and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

    The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

      Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

      Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

      Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

    Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
