Chapter 5 of EstherNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And it came about on the third day1 that Esther went dressing up royally,2 after which she took her stand in the inner courtyard3 of the king’s house opposite the king’s house, while the king was sitting on his royal throne in the royal house opposite the entrance of the house.
  2. And it came about that, as soon as the king saw Esther the queen standing in the courtyard, she gained favor4 in his eyes, so that the king held out to Esther the golden scepter5 that was in his hand. Esther now came near and touched the top of the scepter.
  3. ¶ Then the king said to her: “What do you have, O Esther the queen, and what is your request?6 To the half of the kingship7—let it even be given to you!”
  4. In turn Esther said: “If to the king it does seem good, let the king with Haʹman8 come today[a] to the banquet9 that I have made for him.”
  5. Accordingly the king said: “YOU men, have Haʹman act quickly10 on the word of Esther.” Later the king and Haʹman came to the banquet that Esther had made.
  6. ¶ In time the king said to Esther during the banquet of wine: “What is your petition?11 Let it even be granted you! And what is your request? To the half of the kingship—let it even be done!”
  7. To this Esther answered and said: “My petition and my request is,
  8. If I have found favor in the king’s eyes12 and if to the king it does seem good to grant my petition and to act on my request, let the king and Haʹman come to the banquet that I shall hold for them [tomorrow],[b] and tomorrow I shall do according to the king’s word.”13
  9. ¶ Consequently Haʹman went out on that day joyful14 and merry of heart; but as soon as Haʹman saw Morʹde·cai in the king’s gate15 and that he did not rise16 and did not quake on account of him,17 Haʹman was immediately filled with rage18 against Morʹde·cai.
  10. However, Haʹman kept control of himself and came into his house. Then he sent and had his friends[c] and Zeʹresh19 his wife brought in;
  11. and Haʹman proceeded to declare to them the glory of his riches20 and the large number of his sons21 and everything with which the king had magnified him and how he had exalted him over the princes and the servants of the king.22
  12. ¶ And Haʹman went on to say: “What is more, Esther the queen brought in with the king to the banquet that she had made no one but me,23 and tomorrow24 also I am invited to her with the king.
  13. But all this—none of it suits me[d] as long as I am seeing Morʹde·cai the Jew sitting in the king’s gate.”
  14. At that Zeʹresh his wife and all his friends said to him: “Let them make a stake[e]25 fifty cubits[f] high. Then in the morning26 say to the king that they should hang Morʹde·cai on it.27 Then go in with the king to the banquet joyful.” So the thing seemed good28 before Haʹman, and he proceeded to have the stake made.29

FOOTNOTES

  1. ^ “Let the king with Haman come today.” This appears to be the second acrostic of the Tetragrammaton, YHWH, in Esther. Ya·vohʼʹ Ham·meʹlekh Weha·manʹ Hai·yohmʹ, in Heb. Three ancient Heb. mss are known that give the Heb. letters of the divine name, יהוה (YHWH), in acrostic in majuscule letters, as follows: יוםה המןו מלךה בואי. The Masorah in a rubric, or in red letters, calls attention to this. See 1:20 ftn.
  2. ^ “Tomorrow,” LXX; MVg omit.
  3. ^ Or, “lovers.”
  4. ^ “But all this—none of it suits me.” Heb., wekhol-zeHʹ ʼeh·nenʹnU sho·weHʹ lI. Here U corresponds to W and I corresponds to Y. This appears to be the third acrostic of the Tetragrammaton, יהוה (YHWH), in Esther. Three ancient Heb. mss are known that give the Heb. letters of the divine name, יהוה, here spelled backward, in acrostic in majuscule letters, as follows: יל השו ואיננ הוכל־ז. The Masorah in a rubric, or in red letters, calls attention to this. See vs 4 and 1:20 ftns.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
