Chapter 1 of DeuteronomyNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ These are the words[a] that Moses spoke to all Israel in the region of the Jordan1 in the wilderness, on the desert plains[b] in front of Suph,[c] between Paʹran2 and Toʹphel and Laʹban and Ha·zeʹroth3 and Diʹza·hab,
  2. it being eleven days from Hoʹreb by the way of Mount Seʹir to Kaʹdesh-barʹne·a.4
  3. And it came about that in the fortieth5 year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month, Moses spoke to the sons of Israel according to all that Jehovah had commanded him for them,
  4. after his defeating Siʹhon6 the king of the Amʹor·ites, who was dwelling in Heshʹbon, and Og7 the king of Baʹshan, who was dwelling in Ashʹta·roth,8 in Edʹre·i.9
  5. In the region of the Jordan in the land of Moʹab Moses undertook to explain this law,10 saying:
  6. ¶ “Jehovah our God spoke to us in Hoʹreb,11 saying, ‘YOU have dwelt long enough in this mountainous region.12
  7. Turn and set out on YOUR way and go into the mountainous region of the Amʹor·ites13 and to all their neighbors in the Arʹa·bah,[d]14 the mountainous region15 and the She·pheʹlah[e] and the Negʹeb[f]16 and the seacoast,17 the land of the Caʹnaan·ites,18 and Lebʹa·non,19 up to the great river, the river Eu·phraʹtes.20
  8. See, I do put the land before YOU people. Go in and take possession of the land about which Jehovah swore to YOUR fathers, to Abraham, Isaac21 and Jacob,22 to give it to them and their seed[g] after them.’23
  9. ¶ “And I proceeded to say this to YOU at that particular time, ‘I am not able by myself to carry YOU.24
  10. Jehovah YOUR God has multiplied YOU, and here YOU are today like the stars of the heavens for multitude.25
  11. May Jehovah the God of YOUR forefathers increase YOU26 a thousand times as many as YOU are, and may he bless27 YOU just as he has promised YOU.28
  12. How can I carry by myself the burden of YOU and the load of YOU and YOUR quarreling?29
  13. Get wise and discreet30 and experienced31 men of YOUR tribes, that I may set them as heads over YOU.’32
  14. At that YOU answered me and said, ‘The thing you have spoken for us to do is good.’
  15. So I took the heads of YOUR tribes, men wise and experienced, and put them as heads over YOU, chiefs[h] of thousands and chiefs of hundreds and chiefs of fifties and chiefs of tens and officers of YOUR tribes.33
  16. ¶ “And I went on to command YOUR judges at that particular time, saying, ‘When having a hearing[i] between YOUR brothers, YOU must judge with righteousness34 between a man and his brother or his alien resident.35
  17. YOU must not be partial[j] in judgment.36 YOU should hear the little one the same as the great one.37 YOU must not become frightened because of a man,38 for the judgment belongs to God;39 and the case that is too hard for YOU, YOU should present to me, and I must hear it.’40
  18. And I proceeded to command YOU at that particular time all the things that YOU should do.
  19. ¶ “Then we pulled away from Hoʹreb and went marching through all that great and fear-inspiring wilderness,41 which YOU have seen, by the way of the mountainous region of the Amʹor·ites,42 just as Jehovah our God had commanded us; and we eventually came to Kaʹdesh-barʹne·a.43
  20. I now said to YOU, ‘YOU have come to the mountainous region of the Amʹor·ites, which Jehovah our God is giving to us.44
  21. See, Jehovah your God has abandoned the land to you.45 Go up, take possession, just as Jehovah the God of your forefathers has spoken to you.46 Do not be afraid, nor be terrified.’47
  22. ¶ “However, all of YOU came near to me and said, ‘Do let us send men ahead of us that they may search out the land for us and bring us back word concerning the way by which we should go up and the cities to which we will come.’48
  23. Well, the thing proved to be good in my eyes, so that I took twelve men of YOURS, one for each tribe.49
  24. Then they turned and went up into the mountainous region50 and got as far as the torrent valley of Eshʹcol51 and went spying on it.
  25. And they proceeded to take some of the fruitage of the land52 in their hand and to bring it down to us, and they came bringing us back word and saying, ‘The land that Jehovah our God is giving us is good.’53
  26. But YOU did not wish to go up,54 and YOU began to behave rebelliously against the order of Jehovah YOUR God.55
  27. And YOU kept grumbling in YOUR tents and saying, ‘It was because Jehovah hated56 us that he brought us out of the land of Egypt57 to give us into the hand of the Amʹor·ites, to annihilate us.58
  28. Where are we going up? Our brothers have caused our heart to melt,59 saying: “A people greater and taller than we are,60 cities great and fortified to the heavens61 and also the sons of the Anʹa·kim62 we saw there.”’
  29. ¶ “So I said to YOU, ‘YOU must not suffer a shock or be afraid because of them.63
  30. Jehovah YOUR God is the one going before YOU. He will fight for YOU64 according to all that he did with YOU in Egypt under YOUR own eyes,65
  31. and in the wilderness,66 where you saw how Jehovah your God carried you67 just as a man carries his son, in all the way that YOU walked until YOUR coming to this place.’68
  32. But despite this word YOU were not putting faith in Jehovah YOUR God,69
  33. who was going before YOU in the way to spy out for YOU a place for YOU to camp,70 by fire at night for YOU to see by what way YOU should walk and by a cloud in daytime.71
  34. ¶ “All the while Jehovah heard the voice of YOUR words. So he became indignant and swore,72 saying,
  35. ‘Not one among these men of this evil generation will see the good land that I swore to give to YOUR fathers,73
  36. except Caʹleb the son of Je·phunʹneh.74 He will see it, and to him and to his sons I shall give the land upon which he trod, by reason of the fact that he has followed Jehovah fully.75
  37. (Even against me Jehovah got incensed on YOUR account, saying, ‘You too will not go in there.76
  38. Joshua[k] the son of Nun, who is standing before you, is the one who will go in there.’77 Him he has made strong,78 because he will cause Israel to inherit it.)
  39. As for YOUR little ones of whom YOU said: “Plunder they will become!”79 and YOUR sons who today do not know good or bad, these will go in there, and to them I shall give it, and they will take possession of it.
  40. As for YOU yourselves, change your direction and pull away for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.’80
  41. ¶ “At this YOU answered and said to me, ‘We have sinned against Jehovah.81 We—we shall go up and fight in accord with all that Jehovah our God has commanded us!’ So YOU girded on, each one, his weapons of war and regarded it as easy to go up into the mountain.82
  42. But Jehovah said to me, ‘Say to them: “YOU must not go up and fight, because I am not in YOUR midst;83 that YOU may not be defeated before YOUR enemies.”’84
  43. So I spoke to YOU, and YOU did not listen but began to behave rebelliously85 against Jehovah’s order and to get all heated up, and you tried to go up into the mountain.86
  44. Then the Amʹor·ites who were dwelling in that mountain came out to meet YOU and went chasing YOU,87 just as bees do, and scattering YOU in Seʹir[l] as far as Horʹmah.88
  45. After that YOU returned and began to weep before Jehovah, but Jehovah did not listen to YOUR voice,89 neither did he give ear to YOU.90
  46. So YOU kept dwelling in Kaʹdesh many days, as many days as YOU did dwell there.91

FOOTNOTES

  1. ^ “These are the words (things).” Heb., ʼElʹleh had·deva·rimʹ. In Heb. this fifth book of Moses is named after these opening words. LXXVg name this book “Deuteronomy” (Gr., Deu·te·ro·noʹmi·on, meaning “Second Law,” that is, an explanation of the Law [see vs 5]; Lat., Deu·te·ro·noʹmi·um). Compare 17:18 ftn.
  2. ^ Or, “the Arabah.” The part of the rift valley that runs south to the Gulf of ‘Aqaba at the Red Sea.
  3. ^ “Suph,” MSamSy; LXXVg, “the Red Sea.” Evidently LXXVg thought yam, “sea,” had been separated from Suph, so that it originally read Yam Suph, “Red Sea,” and if so, the reference would be to that part of the Sea known as the Gulf of ‘Aqaba.
  4. ^ Or, “the desert plains.”
  5. ^ Or, “the lowland.”
  6. ^ Or, “the South,” that is, the southern part of the Promised Land.
  7. ^ Or, “offspring.”
  8. ^ “Chiefs of.” Heb., sa·rehʹ.
  9. ^ “When having a hearing.” In Heb. this is a verb in the infinitive absolute, indefinite as to time.
  10. ^ Lit., “not discern faces,” that is, not show favoritism.
  11. ^ Lit., “Jehoshua,” MSam; Gr., Ἰησοῦς (Jesus); Syr., Ye·shuaʽ. See Ge 49:18 ftn, “You.”
  12. ^ “In Seir,” MSam; LXXSyVg, “from Seir.”

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
