Chapter 27 of ActsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Now as it was decided for us to sail away to Italy,1 they proceeded to hand both Paul and certain other prisoners over to an army officer[a] named Julius of the band of Au·gusʹtus.
  2. Going aboard a boat from Ad·ra·mytʹti·um that was about to sail to places along the coast of the [district of] Asia, we set sail, there being with us Ar·is·tarʹchus2 a Mac·e·doʹni·an from Thes·sa·lo·niʹca.
  3. And the next day we landed at Siʹdon, and Julius treated Paul with human kindness[b]3 and permitted him to go to his friends and enjoy [their] care.4
  4. ¶ And putting out to sea from there we sailed under the [shelter of] Cyʹprus, because the winds were contrary;
  5. and we navigated through the open sea along Ci·liʹcia and Pam·phylʹi·a and put into port at Myʹra in Lyʹci·a.
  6. But there the army officer found a boat[c] from Alexandria5 that was sailing for Italy, and he made us board it.
  7. Then, after sailing on slowly quite a number of days and coming to Cniʹdus with difficulty, because the wind did not let us get on, we sailed under the [shelter of] Crete at Sal·moʹne,
  8. and coasting along it with difficulty we came to a certain place called Fair Havens, near which was the city La·seʹa.
  9. ¶ As considerable time had passed and by now it was hazardous to navigate because even the fast [of atonement6 day][d] had already passed by, Paul made a recommendation,
  10. saying to them: “Men, I perceive that navigation is going to be with damage and great loss not only of the cargo and the boat but also of our souls.”[e]7
  11. However, the army officer went heeding the pilot and the shipowner rather than the things said by Paul.
  12. Now as the harbor was inconvenient for wintering, the majority advised setting sail from there, to see if they could somehow make it to Phoenix to winter, a harbor of Crete that opens toward the northeast and toward the southeast.[f]
  13. ¶ Moreover, when the south wind blew softly, they thought they had as good as realized their purpose, and they lifted anchor and began coasting inshore along Crete.
  14. After no great while, however, a tempestuous wind8 called Eu·ro·aqʹui·lo[g] rushed down upon it.
  15. As the boat was violently seized and was not able to keep its head against the wind, we gave way and were borne along.
  16. Now we ran under [the shelter of] a certain small island called Cauʹda, and yet we were hardly able to get possession of the skiff9 at the stern.
  17. But after hoisting it aboard they began using helps to undergird the boat; and being in fear of running aground on the Syrʹtis,[h] they lowered the gear and thus were driven along.
  18. Yet because we were being violently tossed with the tempest, the following [day] they began to lighten10 the ship;
  19. and the third [day], with their own hands, they threw away the tackling of the boat.
  20. ¶ When, now, neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no little tempest11 was lying upon us, all hope of our being saved finally began to be cut off.
  21. And when there had been a long abstinence from food, then Paul stood up in the midst of them12 and said: “Men, YOU certainly ought to have taken my advice and not have put out to sea from Crete and have sustained this damage and loss.13
  22. Still, now I recommend to YOU to be of good cheer, for not a soul[i] of YOU will be lost, only the boat will.
  23. For this night there stood near me an angel14 of the God to whom I belong and to whom I render sacred service,[j]15
  24. saying, ‘Have no fear, Paul. You must stand before Caesar,16 and, look! God has freely given you all those sailing with you.’
  25. Therefore be of good cheer, men; for I believe God17 that it will be exactly as it has been told me.
  26. However, we must be cast ashore on a certain island.”18
  27. ¶ Now as the fourteenth night fell and we were being tossed to and fro on the [sea of] Aʹdri·a,[k] at midnight the sailors began to suspect they were drawing near to some land.
  28. And they sounded the depth and found it twenty fathoms;[l] so they proceeded a short distance and again made a sounding and found it fifteen fathoms.
  29. And because of fearing we might be cast somewhere upon the rocks, they cast out four anchors from the stern and began wishing for it to become day.
  30. But when the sailors began seeking to escape from the boat and lowered the skiff into the sea under the pretense of intending to let down anchors from the prow,
  31. Paul said to the army officer and the soldiers: “Unless these men remain in the boat, YOU cannot be saved.”19
  32. Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the skiff20 and let it fall off.
  33. ¶ Now close to the approach of day Paul began to encourage one and all to take some food, saying: “Today is the fourteenth day YOU have been on the watch and YOU are continuing without food, having taken nothing for yourselves.
  34. Therefore I encourage YOU to take some food, for this is in the interest of YOUR safety; for not a hair21 of the head of one of YOU will perish.”
  35. After he said this, he also took a loaf, gave thanks22 to God before them all and broke it and started eating.
  36. So they all became cheerful and themselves began taking some food.
  37. Now, all together, we souls[m] in the boat were two hundred and seventy-six.[n]
  38. When they had been satisfied with food, they proceeded to lighten23 the boat by throwing the wheat overboard into the sea.
  39. ¶ Finally when it became day, they could not recognize the land but they were observing a certain bay with a beach, and on this they were determined, if they could, to beach24 the boat.
  40. So, cutting away the anchors, they let them fall into the sea, at the same time loosing the lashings of the rudder oars and, after hoisting the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach.
  41. When they lighted upon a shoal washed on each side by the sea, they ran the ship aground and the prow got stuck and stayed immovable, but the stern began to be violently broken to pieces.25
  42. At this it became the determination of the soldiers to kill the prisoners, that no one might swim away and escape.
  43. But the army officer desired to bring Paul safely through and restrained them from their purpose. And he commanded those able to swim to cast themselves into the sea and make it to land first,
  44. and the rest to do so, some upon planks and some upon certain things from the boat. And thus it came about that all were brought safely to land.26

  12. ^ “Fathoms.” Gr., or·gui·asʹ. A fathom is commonly viewed as being four cubits (c. 1.8 m; 6 ft).
  13. ^ Or, “persons.”
  14. ^ “Two hundred and seventy-six,” אItmssVgSyh,p; A, “two hundred and seventy-five”; B, “about seventy-six.” In WH the Gr. word ὡς (hos, “about”) is marked by superior half-brackets, and in the margin appears the Gr. word di·a·koʹsi·ai, “two hundred.” The copyist for B evidently made a mistake by combining the final Omega, ῳ (oi), of the preceding Gr. word, πλοίῳ (ploiʹoi), with the next letter, Sigma, ς (s), standing for 200, to form the Gr. word ὡς (hos, “about”). Hence the actual number is 276 instead of 76.

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
