Chapter 18 of ActsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ After these things he departed from Athens and came to Corinth.
  2. And he found a certain Jew named Aqʹui·la,1 a native of Ponʹtus who had recently come from Italy,2 and Pris·cilʹla his wife, because of the fact that Claudius3 had ordered all the Jews to depart from Rome. So he went to them
  3. and on account of being of the same trade he stayed at their home, and they worked,4 for they were tentmakers by trade.
  4. However, he would give a talk in the synagogue5 every sabbath and would persuade Jews and Greeks.[a]
  5. ¶ When, now, both Silas6 and Timothy7 came down from Mac·e·doʹni·a, Paul began to be intensely occupied with the word, witnessing to the Jews to prove that Jesus is the Christ.8
  6. But after they kept on opposing and speaking abusively,9 he shook out his garments10 and said to them: “Let YOUR blood11 be upon YOUR own heads. I am clean.12 From now on I will go to people of the nations.”13
  7. Accordingly he transferred from there and went into the house of a man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God, whose house was adjoining the synagogue.
  8. But Crisʹpus14 the presiding officer of the synagogue became a believer in the Lord, and so did all his household. And many of the Corinthians that heard began to believe and be baptized.
  9. Moreover, by night the Lord said to Paul15 through a vision: “Have no fear, but keep on speaking and do not keep silent,
  10. because I am with you16 and no man will assault you so as to do you injury; for I have many people in this city.”
  11. So he stayed set there a year and six months, teaching among them the word of God.
  12. ¶ Now while Galʹli·o was proconsul[b]17 of A·chaʹia,[c] the Jews rose up with one accord against Paul and led him to the judgment seat,18
  13. saying: “Contrary to the law this person leads19 men to another persuasion in worshiping God.”
  14. But as Paul was going to open his mouth, Galʹli·o said to the Jews: “If it were, indeed, some wrong or a wicked act of villainy, O Jews, I would with reason put up patiently with YOU.
  15. But if it is controversies over speech and names20 and the law21 among YOU, YOU yourselves must see to it. I do not wish to be a judge of these things.”
  16. With that he drove them away from the judgment seat.
  17. So they all laid hold of Sosʹthe·nes22 the presiding officer of the synagogue and went to beating him in front of the judgment seat. But Galʹli·o would not concern himself at all with these things.
  18. ¶ However, after staying quite some days longer, Paul said good-bye to the brothers and proceeded to sail away for Syria, and with him Pris·cilʹla and Aqʹui·la, as he had the hair of his head clipped short23 in Cenʹchre·ae,[d]24 for he had a vow.
  19. So they arrived at Ephʹe·sus, and he left them there; but he himself entered into the synagogue25 and reasoned with the Jews.
  20. Although they kept requesting him to remain for a longer time, he would not consent
  21. but said good-bye26 and told them: “I will return to YOU again, if Jehovah[e] is willing.”27 And he put out to sea from Ephʹe·sus
  22. and came down to Caes·a·reʹa. And he went up[f] and greeted the congregation, and went down to Antioch.
  23. ¶ And when he had passed some time there he departed and went from place to place through the country of Ga·laʹti·a28 and Phrygʹi·a,29 strengthening30 all the disciples.
  24. ¶ Now a certain Jew named A·polʹlos,31 a native of Alexandria, an eloquent man, arrived in Ephʹe·sus; and he was well versed in the Scriptures.32
  25. This [man] had been orally instructed in the way of Jehovah[g] and, as he was aglow with the spirit,33 he went speaking and teaching with correctness the things about Jesus, but being acquainted with only the baptism34 of John.
  26. And this [man] started to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Pris·cilʹla and Aqʹui·la35 heard him, they took him into their company and expounded the way of God more correctly to him.
  27. Further, because he was desiring to go across into A·chaʹia, the brothers wrote the disciples, exhorting them to receive him kindly. So when he got there, he greatly helped36 those who had believed on account of [God’s][h] undeserved kindness;37
  28. for with intensity he thoroughly proved the Jews to be wrong publicly, while he demonstrated by the Scriptures38 that Jesus was the Christ.39

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
