Chapter 16 of ActsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ So he arrived at Derʹbe and also at Lysʹtra.1 And, look! a certain disciple was there by the name of Timothy,2 the son of a believing Jewish woman but of a Greek father,
  2. and he was well reported on by the brothers in Lysʹtra and I·coʹni·um.
  3. Paul expressed the desire for this man to go out with him, and he took him and circumcised3 him because of the Jews that were in those places, for one and all knew that his father was a Greek.
  4. Now as they traveled on through the cities they would deliver to those there for observance the decrees that had been decided upon by the apostles and older men[a] who were in Jerusalem.4
  5. Therefore, indeed, the congregations continued to be made firm in the faith5 and to increase in number from day to day.
  6. ¶ Moreover, they went through Phrygʹi·a and the country of Ga·laʹti·a,6 because[b] they were forbidden by the holy spirit to speak the word in the [district of] Asia.
  7. Further, when getting down to Mysʹi·a they made efforts to go into Bi·thynʹi·a,7 but the spirit of Jesus did not permit them.
  8. So they passed Mysʹi·a by and came down to Troʹas.8
  9. And during the night a vision9 appeared to Paul: a certain Mac·e·doʹni·an man was standing and entreating him and saying: “Step over into Mac·e·doʹni·a and help us.”
  10. Now as soon as he had seen the vision, we sought to go forth into Mac·e·doʹni·a,10 drawing the conclusion that God had summoned us to declare the good news[c] to them.
  11. ¶ Therefore we put out to sea from Troʹas and came with a straight run to Samʹo·thrace, but on the following day to Ne·apʹo·lis,
  12. and from there to Phi·lipʹpi,11 a colony, which is the principal city of the district of Mac·e·doʹni·a.12 We continued in this city, spending some days.
  13. And on the sabbath day we went forth outside the gate beside a river, where we were thinking there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and began speaking to the women that had assembled.
  14. And a certain woman named Lydʹi·a, a seller of purple, of the city of Thy·a·tiʹra13 and a worshiper of God, was listening, and Jehovah[d] opened her heart14 wide to pay attention to the things being spoken by Paul.
  15. Now when she and her household got baptized,15 she said with entreaty: “If YOU men have judged me to be faithful to Jehovah,[e] enter into my house and stay.”16 And she just made us come.17
  16. ¶ And it happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a certain servant girl with a spirit,18 a demon of divination,[f]19 met us. She used to furnish her masters with much gain20 by practicing the art of prediction.
  17. This [girl] kept following Paul and us and crying out21 with the words: “These men are slaves of the Most High God, who are publishing to YOU the way of salvation.”
  18. This she kept doing for many days. Finally Paul got tired of it22 and turned and said to the spirit: “I order you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.”23 And it came out that very hour.24
  19. ¶ Well, when her masters saw that their hope of gain had left,25 they laid hold of Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace[g] to the rulers,26
  20. and, leading them up to the civil magistrates, they said: “These men are disturbing27 our city very much, they being Jews,
  21. and they are publishing customs28 that it is not lawful for us to take up or practice, seeing we are Romans.”
  22. And the crowd rose up together against them; and the civil magistrates, after tearing the outer garments off them, gave the command to beat them with rods.29
  23. After they had inflicted many blows upon them,30 they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them securely.31
  24. Because he got such an order, he threw them into the inner prison32 and made their feet fast in the stocks.33
  25. ¶ But about the middle of the night34 Paul and Silas were praying and praising God with song;35 yes, the prisoners were hearing them.
  26. Suddenly a great earthquake occurred, so that the foundations of the jail were shaken. Moreover, all the doors were instantly opened, and the bonds of all were loosened.36
  27. The jailer, being awakened out of sleep and seeing the prison doors were open, drew his sword and was about to do away with himself,37 imagining that the prisoners had escaped.38
  28. But Paul called out with a loud voice, saying: “Do not hurt yourself,39 for we are all here!”
  29. So he asked for lights and leaped in and, seized with trembling, he fell down40 before Paul and Silas.
  30. And he brought them outside and said: “Sirs, what must I do41 to get saved?”
  31. They said: “Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will get saved,42 you and your household.”43
  32. And they spoke the word of Jehovah[h] to him together with all those in his house.44
  33. And he took them along in that hour of the night and bathed their stripes; and, one and all, he and his were baptized45 without delay.
  34. And he brought them into his house and set a table before them, and he rejoiced greatly with all his household now that he had believed God.
  35. ¶ When it became day, the civil magistrates46 dispatched the constables to say: “Release those men.”
  36. So the jailer reported their words to Paul: “The civil magistrates have dispatched men that YOU [two] might be released. Now, therefore, come out and go YOUR way in peace.”
  37. But Paul said to them: “They flogged us publicly uncondemned, men who are Romans,47 and threw us into prison; and are they now throwing us out secretly? No, indeed! but let them come themselves and bring us out.”
  38. So the constables reported these sayings to the civil magistrates. These grew fearful when they heard that the men were Romans.48
  39. Consequently they came and entreated them and, after bringing them out, they requested them to depart from the city.
  40. But they came out of the prison and went to the home of Lydʹi·a, and when they saw the brothers they encouraged49 them and departed.

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
