Chapter 13 of ActsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Now in Antioch there were prophets1 and teachers in the local congregation, Barʹna·bas as well as Symʹe·on who was called Niʹger, and Lucius2 of Cy·reʹne, and Manʹa·en who was educated with Herod the district ruler,[a] and Saul.
  2. As they were publicly ministering3 to Jehovah[b] and fasting, the holy spirit said: “Of all persons set Barʹna·bas and Saul4 apart for me for the work to which I have called them.”
  3. Then they fasted and prayed and laid their hands5 upon them and let them go.
  4. ¶ Accordingly these men, sent out by the holy spirit, went down to Se·leuʹcia, and from there they sailed away to Cyʹprus.
  5. And when they got to be in Salʹa·mis they began publishing the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They had John6 also as an attendant.
  6. ¶ When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paʹphos, they met up with a certain man, a sorcerer, a false prophet,7 a Jew whose name was Bar-Jeʹsus,
  7. and he was with the proconsul[c] Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. Calling Barʹna·bas and Saul to him, this man earnestly sought to hear the word of God.
  8. But Elʹy·mas the sorcerer (that, in fact, is the way his name is translated) began opposing them,8 seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.
  9. Saul, who is also Paul,[d] becoming filled with holy spirit, looked at him intently
  10. and said: “O man full of every sort of fraud and every sort of villainy, you son of the Devil,9 you enemy of everything righteous, will you not quit distorting the right ways of Jehovah?[e]
  11. Well, then, look! Jehovah’s[f] hand is upon you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sunlight for a period of time.” Instantly a thick mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went around seeking men to lead him by the hand.10
  12. Then the proconsul,11 upon seeing what had happened, became a believer, as he was astounded at the teaching of Jehovah.[g]
  13. ¶ The men, together with Paul, now put out to sea from Paʹphos and arrived at Perga in Pam·phylʹi·a.12 But John13 withdrew from them and returned14 to Jerusalem.
  14. They, however, went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pi·sidʹi·a and, going into the synagogue15 on the sabbath day, they took a seat.
  15. After the public reading of the Law16 and of the Prophets the presiding officers17 of the synagogue sent out to them, saying: “Men, brothers, if there is any word of encouragement for the people that YOU have, tell it.”
  16. So Paul rose, and motioning18 with his hand, he said:
¶ “Men, Israelites and YOU [others] that fear God, hear.19
  17. The God of this people Israel chose our forefathers, and he exalted the people during their alien residence in the land of Egypt and brought them out of it with an uplifted arm.20
  18. And for a period of about forty years21 he put up with their manner of action in the wilderness.
  19. After destroying seven nations in the land of Caʹnaan, he distributed the land of them by lot:22
  20. all that during about four hundred and fifty years.
¶ “And after these things[h] he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.23
  21. But from then on they demanded a king,24 and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin,25 for forty years.
  22. And after removing him,26 he raised up for them David as king,27 respecting whom he bore witness and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesʹse,28 a man agreeable to my heart,29 who will do all the things I desire.’30
  23. From the offspring31 of this [man] according to his promise God has brought to Israel a savior,32 Jesus,
  24. after John,33 in advance of the entry of that One,34 had preached publicly to all the people of Israel baptism [in symbol] of repentance.
  25. But as John was fulfilling his course, he would say, ‘What do YOU suppose I am? I am not he.[i] But, look! one is coming after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’35
  26. ¶ “Men, brothers, YOU sons of the stock of Abraham and those [others] among YOU who fear God, the word of this salvation has been sent forth to us.36
  27. For the inhabitants of Jerusalem and their rulers did not know this One,37 but, when acting as judges, they fulfilled the things voiced by the Prophets,38 which things are read aloud every Sabbath,
  28. and, although they found no cause for death,39 they demanded of Pilate that he be executed.40
  29. When, now, they had accomplished all the things written about him,41 they took him down from the stake[j]42 and laid him in a memorial tomb.43
  30. But God raised him up from the dead;44
  31. and for many days he became visible to those who had gone up with him from Galʹi·lee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people.45
  32. ¶ “And so we are declaring to YOU the good news about the promise made to the forefathers,46
  33. that God has entirely fulfilled it to us their[k] children in that he resurrected Jesus;47 even as it is written in the second psalm, ‘You are my son, I have become your Father this day.’48
  34. And that fact that he resurrected him from the dead destined no more to return to corruption, he has stated in this way, ‘I will give YOU people the loving-kindnesses to David that are faithful.’49
  35. Hence he also says in another psalm, ‘You will not allow your loyal one to see corruption.’50
  36. For David,51 on the one hand, served the express will of God in his own generation and fell asleep [in death] and was laid with his forefathers and did see corruption.52
  37. On the other hand, he whom God raised up did not see corruption.53
  38. ¶ “Let it therefore be known to YOU, brothers, that through this One a forgiveness of sins is being published to YOU;54
  39. and that from all the things from which YOU could not be declared guiltless by means of the law of Moses,55 everyone who believes is declared guiltless by means of this One.56
  40. Therefore see to it that what is said in the Prophets does not come upon YOU,
  41. ‘Behold it, YOU scorners, and wonder at it, and vanish away, because I am working a work in YOUR days, a work that YOU will by no means believe even if anyone relates it to YOU in detail.’”57
  42. ¶ Now when they were going out, the people began entreating for these matters to be spoken to them on the following sabbath.58
  43. So after the synagogue assembly was dissolved, many of the Jews and of the proselytes who worshiped [God][l] followed Paul and Barʹna·bas,59 who in speaking to them began urging60 them to continue in the undeserved kindness of God.61
  44. ¶ The next sabbath nearly all the city gathered together to hear the word of Jehovah.[m]62
  45. When the Jews got sight of the crowds, they were filled with jealousy63 and began blasphemously contradicting the things being spoken by Paul.64
  46. And so, talking with boldness, Paul and Barʹna·bas said: “It was necessary for the word of God to be spoken first to YOU.65 Since YOU are thrusting it away66 from YOU and do not judge yourselves worthy of everlasting life, look! we turn to the nations.67
  47. In fact, Jehovah[n] has laid commandment upon us in these words, ‘I have appointed you as a light of nations,68 for you to be a salvation to the extremity[o] of the earth.’”69
  48. ¶ When those of the nations heard this, they began to rejoice and to glorify the word of Jehovah,[p]70 and all those who were rightly disposed for everlasting life became believers.71
  49. Furthermore, the word of Jehovah[q] went on being carried throughout the whole country.72
  50. But the Jews73 stirred up the reputable women who worshiped [God][r] and the principal men of the city, and they raised up a persecution74 against Paul and Barʹna·bas and threw them outside their boundaries.
  51. These shook the dust off their feet against them75 and went to I·coʹni·um.
  52. And the disciples continued to be filled with joy76 and holy spirit.

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
