Chapter 1 of 2 SamuelNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And it came about after Saul’s death, and when David himself had returned from striking down the A·malʹek·ites,[a]1 that David continued to dwell at Zikʹlag2 two days.
  2. And it came about on the third day that, look! a man3 was coming from the camp, from Saul, with his garments ripped apart4 and dirt upon his head;5 and it came about that when he came to David, he at once fell down to the earth6 and prostrated himself.
  3. ¶ And David proceeded to say to him: “Where do you come from?” at which he said to him: “From the camp of Israel I have escaped.”
  4. And David went on to say to him: “How did the matter turn out? Tell me, please.” To this he said: “The people have fled from the battle and also many of the people have fallen so that they died,7 and even Saul8 and Jonʹa·than9 his son have died.”
  5. Then David said to the young man that was telling him: “How do you really know that Saul has died and also Jonʹa·than his son?”10
  6. At this the young man that was telling him said: “I unexpectedly chanced to be on Mount Gil·boʹa,11 and there was Saul supporting himself upon his spear;12 and, look! the charioteers[b] and the mounted men had caught up with him.13
  7. When he turned back and saw me, then he called me, and I said, ‘Here I am!’
  8. And he went on to say to me, ‘Who are you?’ at which I said to him, ‘I am an A·malʹek·ite.’14
  9. Then he said, ‘Stand, please, over me and definitely put me to death, for the cramp[c] has seized me, because all my soul15 is yet in me.’
  10. So I stood over him and definitely put him to death,16 for I knew that he could not live after he had fallen. Then I took the diadem17 that was upon his head and the bracelet that was upon his arm, that I might bring them to my lord here.”
  11. ¶ At this David took hold of his garments and ripped them apart,18 and so did all the men also that were with him.
  12. And they began to wail and weep19 and fast20 until the evening over Saul and over Jonʹa·than his son and over the people of Jehovah[d] and over the house of Israel,21 because they had fallen by the sword.
  13. ¶ David now said to the young man that was telling him: “Where are you from?” to which he said: “I am the son of an alien resident, an A·malʹek·ite.”22
  14. Then David said to him: “How was it that you did not fear23 to thrust your hand out to bring the anointed[e]24 of Jehovah to ruin?”
  15. With that David called one of the young men and said: “Go near. Smite him.” Accordingly he struck him down so that he died.25
  16. David then said to him: “The bloodguilt for you[f] be upon your own head,26 because your own mouth has testified against you,27 saying, ‘I myself definitely put the anointed of Jehovah to death.’”28
  17. ¶ And David proceeded to chant this dirge29 over Saul and Jonʹa·than his son30
  18. and to say that the sons of Judah31 should be taught “The Bow.”32 Look! It is written in the book of Jaʹshar:[g]33
  19. ¶ “The beauty, O Israel, is slain upon your high places.34
How have the mighty men fallen!
  20. ¶ Do not, YOU people, tell it in Gath;35
Do not announce it in the streets of Ashʹke·lon,36
¶ For fear that the daughters of the Phi·lisʹtines may rejoice,
For fear that the daughters of the uncircumcised men may exult.37
  21. ¶ YOU mountains of Gil·boʹa,38 let no dew, let no rain be upon YOU, nor let there be fields of holy contributions;[h]39
Because there the shield of mighty ones was befouled,[i]
The shield of Saul, so that there was none anointed with oil.40
  22. ¶ From the blood of the slain, from the fat of mighty ones,
The bow of Jonʹa·than did not turn back,41
And the sword of Saul would not return without success.42
  23. ¶ Saul and Jonʹa·than,43 the lovable ones and the pleasant ones during their life,
And in their death they were not separated.44
¶ Swifter than the eagles they were,45
Mightier than the lions[j] they were.46
  24. ¶ YOU daughters of Israel, weep over Saul,
Who clothed YOU in scarlet with finery,
Who put ornaments of gold upon YOUR clothing.47
  25. ¶ How have the mighty ones fallen in the midst of the battle!48
Jonʹa·than slain upon your high places!49
  26. ¶ I am distressed over you, my brother Jonʹa·than,
Very pleasant you were to me.50
More wonderful was your love to me than the love from women.51
  27. ¶ How have the mighty ones fallen52
And the weapons of war perished!”

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
