Chapter 5 of 2 SamuelNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ In time all the tribes of Israel came to David1 at Heʹbron2 and said: “Look! We ourselves are your bone and your flesh.3
  2. Both yesterday and previously4 while Saul happened to be king over us, you yourself became the one leading Israel out and bringing it in.5 And Jehovah proceeded to say to you, ‘You yourself will shepherd6 my people Israel, and you yourself will become leader7 over Israel.’”
  3. So all the older men[a]8 of Israel came to the king at Heʹbron, and King David concluded a covenant9 with them in Heʹbron before Jehovah; after which they anointed10 David as king over Israel.[b]11
  4. ¶ Thirty years old was David when he became king. For forty years12 he ruled as king.
  5. In Heʹbron he ruled as king over Judah for seven years and six months;13 and in Jerusalem14 he ruled as king for thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.
  6. Consequently the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebʹu·sites15 inhabiting the land, and they began to say to David: “You will not come in here, but the blind and the lame ones will certainly turn you away,”16 they thinking: “David will not come in here.”
  7. Just the same, David proceeded to capture the stronghold of Zion,17 that is, the City of David.18
  8. So David said on that day: “Anyone striking the Jebʹu·sites,19 let him, by means of the water tunnel,20 make contact with both the lame and the blind, hateful to the soul of David!” That is why they say: “The blind one and the lame one will not come into the house.”
  9. And David took up dwelling in the stronghold, and it came to be called the City of David; and David began to build all around from the Mound[c]21 and inward.
  10. Thus David went on getting greater and greater,22 and Jehovah the God of armies[d]23 was with him.24
  11. ¶ And Hiʹram25 the king of Tyre proceeded to send messengers26 to David, and also cedar trees27 and workers in wood and workers in stone for walls, and they began to build a house for David.28
  12. And David came to know that Jehovah had firmly established him as king over Israel29 and that he had exalted30 his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.31
  13. ¶ Meantime, David went on taking more concubines32 and wives33 out of Jerusalem after he came from Heʹbron; and more sons and daughters continued to be born to David.
  14. And these are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Sham·muʹa34 and Shoʹbab35 and Nathan36 and Solʹo·mon,37
  15. and Ibʹhar and E·liʹshu·a38 and Neʹpheg39 and Ja·phiʹa,40
  16. and E·lishʹa·ma41 and E·liʹa·da and E·liphʹe·let.42
  17. ¶ And the Phi·lisʹtines got to hear that they had anointed David as king over Israel.43 At that all the Phi·lisʹtines came up to look for David. When David heard of it, then he went down to the place hard to approach.44
  18. And the Phi·lisʹtines, for their part, came in and kept tramping about in the low plain of Rephʹa·im.45
  19. And David began to inquire46 of Jehovah, saying: “Shall I go up against the Phi·lisʹtines? Will you give them into my hand?” At this Jehovah said to David: “Go up, for I shall without fail give the Phi·lisʹtines into your hands.”47
  20. So David came to Baʹal-pe·raʹzim,48 and David got to strike them down there. At that he said: “Jehovah has broken through my enemies49 ahead of me, like a gap made by waters.” That is why he called the name of that place Baʹal-pe·raʹzim.[e]50
  21. Consequently they left their idols[f]51 there, and so David and his men took them away.52
  22. ¶ Later the Phi·lisʹtines came up once again53 and tramped about in the low plain of Rephʹa·im.54
  23. At that David inquired55 of Jehovah, but he said: “You must not go up. Go around to the rear of them, and you must come against them in front of the baʹca bushes.[g]56
  24. And let it occur that, when you hear the sound of a marching[h] in the tops of the baʹca bushes, at that time you act with decision,57 because at that time Jehovah will have gone out ahead of you to strike down the camp of the Phi·lisʹtines.”58
  25. Accordingly David did that way, just as Jehovah had commanded him,59 and he went striking down60 the Phi·lisʹtines from Geʹba[i]61 to as far as Geʹzer.62

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
