Chapter 21 of 2 SamuelNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Now there came to be a famine1 in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David proceeded to consult the face of Jehovah. Then Jehovah said: “Upon Saul and upon his house there is bloodguilt,[a] because he put the Gibʹe·on·ites to death.”2
  2. So the king called the Gibʹe·on·ites3 and talked to them. (Incidentally, the Gibʹe·on·ites were not of the sons of Israel, but of the remainder of the Amʹor·ites;4 and the sons of Israel themselves had sworn to them,5 but Saul sought to strike6 them down in his feeling jealous7 for the sons of Israel and Judah.)
  3. And David went on to say to the Gibʹe·on·ites: “What shall I do to YOU, and with what shall I make atonement,[b]8 that YOU may certainly bless the inheritance9 of Jehovah?”
  4. So the Gibʹe·on·ites said to him: “It is not a matter of silver or gold10 for us[c] in connection with Saul and his household, neither is it ours to put a man to death in Israel.” At that he said: “Whatever YOU are saying I shall do for YOU.”
  5. At this they said to the king: “The man that exterminated11 us and that schemed12 to annihilate us from subsisting in any of the territory of Israel,
  6. let there be given to us seven men of his sons;13 and we must expose[d]14 them to Jehovah in Gibʹe·ah15 of Saul, the chosen one[e] of Jehovah.”16 Accordingly the king said: “I myself shall give them.”
  7. ¶ However, the king felt compassion upon Me·phibʹo·sheth17 the son of Jonʹa·than the son of Saul on account of the oath18 of Jehovah that was between them, between David and Jonʹa·than the son of Saul.
  8. Consequently the king took the two sons of Rizʹpah19 the daughter of Aʹiah whom she bore to Saul, Ar·moʹni and Me·phibʹo·sheth, and the five sons of Miʹchal[f]20 the daughter of Saul whom she bore to Aʹdri·el21 the son of Bar·zilʹlai the Me·holʹath·ite.
  9. Then he gave them into the hand of the Gibʹe·on·ites and they proceeded to expose them on the mountain before Jehovah,22 so that the seven of them fell together; and they themselves were put to death in the first days of harvest, at the start of the barley harvest.23
  10. However, Rizʹpah the daughter of Aʹiah24 took sackcloth25 and spread it for herself upon the rock from the start of harvest until water poured down upon them from the heavens;26 and she did not allow the fowls27 of the heavens to rest upon them by day nor the wild beasts28 of the field by night.
  11. ¶ At length it was reported29 to David what Rizʹpah the daughter of Aʹiah, Saul’s concubine, had done.
  12. So David went and took the bones of Saul30 and the bones of Jonʹa·than his son from the landowners of Jaʹbesh-gilʹe·ad,31 who had stolen them from the public square of Beth-shan,32 where the Phi·lisʹtines had hanged33 them on the day that the Phi·lisʹtines struck down Saul on Gil·boʹa.34
  13. And he proceeded to bring up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonʹa·than his son; furthermore, they gathered the bones of the men being exposed.35
  14. Then they buried the bones of Saul and of Jonʹa·than his son[g] in the land of Benjamin in Zeʹla[h]36 in the burial place of Kish37 his father, that they might do everything that the king had commanded. So God let himself be entreated for the land after this.38
  15. ¶ And the Phi·lisʹtines39 came to have war again with Israel. Accordingly David and his servants with him went down and fought the Phi·lisʹtines; and David grew tired.
  16. And Ishʹbi-beʹnob, who was among those born of the Rephʹa·im,[i]40 the weight of whose spear41 was three hundred shekels[j] of copper and who was girded with a new sword,[k] got to think of striking David down.
  17. At once A·bishʹai42 the son of Ze·ruʹiah came to his help43 and struck the Phi·lisʹtine down and put him to death. At that time the men of David swore to him, saying: “You must not go out with us to the battle anymore,44 that you may not extinguish45 the lamp46 of Israel!”
  18. ¶ And it came about after this that war arose once more with the Phi·lisʹtines at Gob.[l] Then it was that Sibʹbe·cai47 the Huʹshath·ite48 struck down Saph, who was among those born of the Rephʹa·im.49
  19. ¶ And war arose once again with the Phi·lisʹtines at Gob, and El·haʹnan50 the son of Jaʹa·re-orʹe·gim the Bethʹle·hem·ite got to strike down Go·liʹath[m] the Gitʹtite,[n] the shaft of whose spear was like the beam of loom workers.51
  20. ¶ And war arose yet again at Gath,52 when there happened to be a man of extraordinary size, with six fingers on each of his hands and six toes on each of his feet, twenty-four in number; and he too had been born to the Rephʹa·im.53
  21. And he kept taunting54 Israel. Finally Jonʹa·than55 the son of Shimʹe·i,[o]56 David’s brother, struck him down.
  22. ¶ These four had been born to the Rephʹa·im in Gath;57 and they came to fall by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.58

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
