Chapter 2 of 2 SamuelNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And it came about afterward that David proceeded to inquire of Jehovah,1 saying: “Shall I go up into one of the cities of Judah?” At this Jehovah said to him: “Go up.” And David went on to say: “Where shall I go up?” Then he said: “To Heʹbron.”2
  2. Accordingly David went up there and also his two wives, A·hinʹo·am3 the Jezʹre·el·i·tess and Abʹi·gail4 the wife of Naʹbal the Carʹmel·ite.
  3. And the men5 that were with him David brought up, each with his household; and they took up dwelling in the cities of Heʹbron [territory].
  4. Then the men of Judah6 came and anointed7 David there as king over the house of Judah.8
¶ And they came telling David, saying: “The men of Jaʹbesh-gilʹe·ad were the ones that buried Saul.”
  5. Hence David sent messengers to the men of Jaʹbesh-gilʹe·ad9 and said to them: “Blessed may YOU be of Jehovah,10 because YOU exercised this loving-kindness[a]11 toward YOUR lord,[b] toward Saul, in that YOU buried him.12
  6. And now may Jehovah exercise toward YOU loving-kindness13 and trustworthiness,[c] and I too shall exercise to YOU this goodness because YOU have done this thing.14
  7. And now let YOUR hands strengthen themselves and prove yourselves valiant men,15 because YOUR lord Saul is dead, and it is even I whom the house of Judah have anointed as king16 over them.”
  8. ¶ As for Abʹner17 the son of Ner the chief of the army that had belonged to Saul, he took Ish-boʹsheth,18 Saul’s son, and proceeded to bring him across[d] to Ma·ha·naʹim,19
  9. and to make him king over Gilʹe·ad20 and the Ashʹur·ites[e] and Jezʹre·el21 and over Eʹphra·im22 and Benjamin23 and over Israel, all of it.
  10. Forty years old Ish-boʹsheth, Saul’s son, was when he became king over Israel, and for two years he ruled as king. Only the house of Judah24 proved themselves followers of David.
  11. And the number of the days that David proved to be king in Heʹbron over the house of Judah came to be seven years and six months.25
  12. ¶ In time Abʹner the son of Ner and the servants of Ish-boʹsheth, Saul’s son, went out from Ma·ha·naʹim26 to Gibʹe·on.27
  13. As for Joʹab28 the son of Ze·ruʹiah29 and the servants of David, they went out[f] and later met together by the pool of Gibʹe·on; and they kept sitting, these on this side of the pool and those on that side of the pool.
  14. Finally Abʹner said to Joʹab: “Let the young men rise up, please, and let them put on a combat before us.” To this Joʹab said: “Let them rise up.”
  15. So they rose up and went across by number, twelve belonging to Benjamin and Ish-boʹsheth,30 Saul’s son, and twelve from the servants of David.
  16. And they began grabbing hold of one another by the head, with the sword of each one in the side of the other, so that they fell down together. And that place came to be called Helʹkath-haz·zuʹrim,[g] which is in Gibʹe·on.31
  17. ¶ And the fighting came to be extremely hard on that day, and Abʹner32 and the men of Israel were finally defeated before the servants of David.
  18. Now the three sons of Ze·ruʹiah33 happened to be there, Joʹab34 and A·bishʹai35 and Asʹa·hel;36 and Asʹa·hel was swift on his feet, like one of the gazelles37 that are in the open field.
  19. And Asʹa·hel went chasing after Abʹner, and he did not incline to go to the right or to the left from following Abʹner.
  20. At length Abʹner looked behind him and said: “Is this you, Asʹa·hel?” to which he said: “It is I.”
  21. Then Abʹner said to him: “Veer to your right or to your left and seize one of the young men as yours and take what you strip38 off him as yours.” And Asʹa·hel did not want to turn aside from following him.
  22. So Abʹner said to Asʹa·hel yet again: “Turn your course aside from following me. Why should I strike[h] you down to the earth?39 How, then, could I raise my face to Joʹab your brother?”
  23. But he kept refusing to turn aside; and Abʹner got to strike him in the abdomen40 with the butt end[i] of the spear, so that the spear came out from his back; and he fell there and died where he was. And it came about that all those who came to the place where Asʹa·hel fell and then died would stand still.41
  24. ¶ And Joʹab and A·bishʹai went chasing after Abʹner. As the sun was setting they themselves came to the hill of Amʹmah, which is in front of Giʹah on the way to the wilderness of Gibʹe·on.42
  25. And the sons of Benjamin went collecting together behind Abʹner, and they came to be one company and kept standing upon the top of one hill.
  26. And Abʹner began to call to Joʹab and say: “Is the sword going to eat43 endlessly? Do you not really know that bitterness is what will develop at last?44 How long, then, will it be before you say to the people to turn back from following their brothers?”45
  27. At that Joʹab said: “As the [true] God[j] is living,46 if you had not spoken,47 then only by the morning would the people have been withdrawn, each one from following his brother.”
  28. Joʹab now blew the horn,48 and all the people came to a halt and did not continue chasing after Israel anymore, and they did not renew the fighting anymore.
  29. ¶ As for Abʹner and his men, they marched through the Arʹa·bah49 all that night and went crossing the Jordan50 and marching through the entire gully and finally came to Ma·ha·naʹim.51
  30. As for Joʹab, he turned back from following Abʹner and began to collect all the people together. And there were missing from the servants of David nineteen men and Asʹa·hel.
  31. And the servants of David, for their part, had struck down those of Benjamin and of the men of Abʹner—there were three hundred and sixty men that died.52
  32. And they proceeded to carry Asʹa·hel53 and bury him in the burial place of his father,54 which is at Bethʹle·hem.55 Then Joʹab and his men went marching on all night long, and it became daylight for them at Heʹbron.56

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
