Chapter 6 of 2 KingsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And the sons1 of the prophets began to say to E·liʹsha: “Look, now! The place2 where we are dwelling before you is too cramped3 for us.
  2. Let us go, please, as far as the Jordan and take from there each one a beam and make for ourselves4 there a place in which to dwell.” So he said: “Go.”
  3. And a certain one went on to say: “Come on, please, and go with your servants.” At that he said: “I myself shall go.”
  4. Accordingly he went with them, and they finally came to the Jordan and began to cut down the trees.5
  5. And it came about that a certain one was felling his beam, and the axhead[a]6 itself fell into the water. And he began to cry out and say: “Alas, my master,7 for it was borrowed!”8
  6. Then the man of the [true] God said: “Where did it fall?” So he showed him the place. Immediately he cut off a piece of wood and threw it there and made the axhead float.9
  7. He now said: “Lift it up for yourself.” At once he thrust his hand out and took it.
  8. ¶ And the king of Syria,10 for his part, became involved in war against Israel. Accordingly he took counsel with his servants,11 saying: “At such and such a place YOU will encamp with me.”[b]12
  9. Then the man of the [true] God13 sent to the king of Israel, saying: “Guard yourself against passing by this place,14 because there is where the Syrians are coming down.”15
  10. So the king of Israel sent to the place that the man of the [true] God had said to him.16 And he warned17 him, and he kept away from there, not once or twice.
  11. ¶ Consequently the heart of the king of Syria became enraged over this matter,18 so that he called his servants and said to them: “Will YOU not tell me who from those who belong to us is for the king of Israel?”19
  12. Then one of his servants said: “None, my lord the king, but it is E·liʹsha20 the prophet who is in Israel that tells21 the king of Israel the things that you speak in your inner bedroom.”22
  13. So he said: “YOU men go and see where he is, that I may send and take him.”23 Later the report was made to him, saying: “There he is in Doʹthan.”24
  14. Immediately he sent horses and war chariots and a heavy military force25 there; and they proceeded to come by night and close in upon the city.
  15. ¶ When the minister26 of the man of the [true] God rose early to get up, and went out, why, there a military force was surrounding the city with horses and war chariots. At once his attendant said to him: “Alas, my master!27 What shall we do?”
  16. But he said: “Do not be afraid,28 for there are more who are with us than those who are with them.”29
  17. And E·liʹsha began to pray30 and say: “O Jehovah, open his eyes,31 please, that he may see.” Immediately Jehovah opened the attendant’s eyes, so that he saw; and, look! the mountainous region was full of horses and war chariots32 of fire all around E·liʹsha.33
  18. ¶ When they began to come down to him, E·liʹsha went on to pray to Jehovah and say: “Please, strike this nation[c] with blindness.”34 So he struck them with blindness according to the word of E·liʹsha.
  19. E·liʹsha now said to them: “This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and let me conduct YOU to the man YOU look for.” However, he conducted them to Sa·marʹi·a.35
  20. ¶ And it came about that as soon as they arrived at Sa·marʹi·a, E·liʹsha then said: “O Jehovah, open the eyes of these that they may see.”36 Immediately Jehovah opened their eyes, and they got to see; and here they were in the middle of Sa·marʹi·a.
  21. The king of Israel now said to E·liʹsha as soon as he saw them: “Shall I strike [them] down, shall I strike [them] down,37 my father?”38
  22. But he said: “You must not strike [them] down. Are those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow the ones that you are striking down?39 Set bread and water before them that they may eat and drink40 and go to their lord.”
  23. Accordingly he spread a great feast for them; and they began to eat and drink, after which he sent them away and they went to their lord. And not once did the marauding bands41 of the Syrians come again into the land of Israel.
  24. ¶ And it came about afterward that Ben-haʹdad the king of Syria proceeded to collect all his camp together and to go up and besiege42 Sa·marʹi·a.
  25. In time a great famine arose in Sa·marʹi·a,43 and, look! they were besieging it until an ass’s head44 got to be worth eighty silver pieces, and the fourth of a cab[d] measure of dove’s dung45 was worth five silver pieces.
  26. And it came about as the king of Israel was passing along upon the wall that a certain woman cried out to him, saying: “Do save, O my lord the king!”46
  27. To this he said: “If Jehovah does not save you, from what [source] shall I save you?47 either from the threshing floor or from the wine or oil press?”
  28. And the king went on to say to her: “What is the matter with you?” So she said: “This very woman said to me, ‘Give your son that we may eat him today, and my own son we shall eat tomorrow.’48
  29. Accordingly we boiled49 my son and ate him.50 Then I said to her on the next day, ‘Give your son that we may eat him.’ But she hid her son.”
  30. ¶ And it came about that as soon as the king heard the woman’s words, he immediately ripped51 his garments apart; and as he was passing along upon the wall, the people got to see, and, look! sackcloth was underneath upon his flesh.
  31. And he went on to say: “So may God do to me, and so may he add to it, if the head of E·liʹsha the son of Shaʹphat continues standing upon him today!”52
  32. ¶ And E·liʹsha was sitting in his own house, and the older men[e] were sitting with him,53 when he sent a man from before him. Before the messenger could come in to him, he himself said to the older men: “Have YOU seen how this son of a murderer54 has sent to take off my head? See to it: as soon as the messenger comes, close the door, and YOU must press him back with the door. Is there not the sound55 of the feet of his lord behind him?”
  33. While he was yet speaking with them, here was the messenger[f] coming down to him, and [the king][g] proceeded to say: “Here this is the calamity from Jehovah.56 Why should I wait any longer for Jehovah?”57

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
