Chapter 4 of 2 KingsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Now there was a certain woman of the wives of the sons1 of the prophets that cried out to E·liʹsha, saying: “Your servant, my husband, is dead; and you yourself well know that your own servant had continually feared2 Jehovah, and the creditor3 himself has come to take both my children for his slaves.”
  2. At this E·liʹsha said to her: “What shall I do for you?4 Tell me; what do you have in the house?” To this she said: “Your maidservant has nothing at all in the house but a spouted jar of oil.”5
  3. Then he said: “Go, ask for vessels for yourself from outside, from all your neighbors, empty vessels. Do not hold yourself to a few.
  4. And you must go and close the door behind yourself and your sons, and you must pour out into all these vessels, and the full ones you should set aside.”
  5. Upon that she went away from him.
¶ When she closed the door behind herself and her sons, they were bringing [the vessels][a] near to her, and she was doing the pouring out.6
  6. And it came about that as soon as the vessels were full she went on to say to her son: “Do bring still another vessel near to me.”7 But he said to her: “There is no other vessel.” At that the oil stopped.8
  7. So she came in and told the man of the [true] God, and he now said: “Go, sell the oil and pay off your debts,9 and you [and] your sons should live from what is left.”10
  8. ¶ And it came about one day that E·liʹsha went passing along to Shuʹnem,11 where there was a prominent woman, and she began to constrain12 him to eat bread. And it came about that as often as he would pass by, he would turn aside there to eat bread.
  9. At length she said to her husband:13 “Here, now, I well know that it is a holy man of God14 that is passing by us constantly.
  10. Please, let us make a little roof chamber15 on the wall and put there for him a couch and a table and a chair and a lampstand;16 and it must occur that whenever he comes in to us he can turn aside there.”17
  11. ¶ And it came about one day that as usual he came in there and turned aside to the roof chamber and lay down there.
  12. So he said to Ge·haʹzi18 his attendant: “Call this Shuʹnam·mite19 woman.” At that he called her that she might stand before him.
  13. Then he said to him: “Please, say to her, ‘Here you have restricted yourself for us with all this restriction.20 What is there to be done for you?21 Is there anything to speak to the king22 or to the chief23 of the army for you?’” To this she said: “In among my own people I am dwelling.”24
  14. And he went on to say: “What, then, is there to be done for her?” Ge·haʹzi now said: “For a fact, a son she does not have,25 and her husband is old.”
  15. Immediately he said: “Call her.” So he called her, and she kept standing at the entrance.
  16. Then he said: “At this appointed time next year[b] you will be embracing a son.”26 But she said: “No, my master, O man of the [true] God! Do not tell lies in connection with your maidservant.”
  17. ¶ However, the woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son27 at this appointed time the next year, just as E·liʹsha had spoken to her.28
  18. And the child kept on growing up, and it came about one day that he went out as usual to his father with the reapers.29
  19. And he kept saying to his father: “My head, O my head!”30 At last he said to the attendant: “Carry him to his mother.”31
  20. Accordingly he carried him and brought him to his mother. And he kept sitting upon her knees until noon, and gradually he died.32
  21. Then she went up and laid him upon the couch33 of the man of the [true] God34 and closed the door upon him and went out.
  22. She now called her husband and said: “Do send me, please, one of the attendants and one of the she-asses, and let me run as far as the man of the [true] God and return.”35
  23. But he said: “Why are you going to him today? It is not a new moon36 nor a sabbath.” However, she said: “It is all right.”
  24. So she saddled up the she-ass37 and said to her attendant: “Drive and go ahead. Do not hold back for my sake from riding unless I shall have said so to you.”
  25. ¶ And she proceeded to go and come to the man of the [true] God at Mount Carʹmel. And it came about that, as soon as the man of the [true] God saw her out ahead, he immediately said to Ge·haʹzi his attendant:38 “Look! The Shuʹnam·mite woman over there.
  26. Now run, please, to meet her and say to her, ‘Is it all right with you? Is it all right with your husband? Is it all right with the child?’” To this she said: “It is all right.”
  27. When she came to the man of the [true] God at the mountain, she at once took hold of him by his feet.39 At this Ge·haʹzi came near to push her away,40 but the man of the [true] God41 said: “Let her alone,42 for her soul is bitter43 within her; and Jehovah himself has hidden44 it from me and not told me.”
  28. She now said: “Did I ask for a son through my lord? Did I not say, ‘You must not lead me to a false hope’?”45
  29. ¶ Immediately he said to Ge·haʹzi:46 “Gird up your loins47 and take my staff48 in your hand and go. In case you encounter anyone, you must not greet him;49 and in case anyone should greet you, you must not answer him. And you must place my staff upon the face of the boy.”50
  30. At this the mother of the boy said: “As Jehovah is living51 and as your soul is living,52 I will not leave you.”53 Therefore he got up and went with her.[c]
  31. And Ge·haʹzi himself passed along before them and then put the staff upon the boy’s face, but there was no voice nor paying of attention.54 So he went back to meet him and told him, saying: “The boy did not wake up.”55
  32. ¶ At last E·liʹsha came into the house, and there the boy was dead, being laid upon his couch.56
  33. Then he came in and closed the door behind them both57 and began to pray to Jehovah.58
  34. Finally he went up and lay down upon the child59 and put his own mouth upon his mouth and his own eyes upon his eyes and his own palms upon his palms and kept bent over him, and gradually the child’s flesh grew warm.
  35. Then he began walking again in the house, once this way and once that way, after which he went up and bent over him. And the boy began to sneeze[d] as many as seven times, after which the boy opened his eyes.60
  36. He now called Ge·haʹzi and said: “Call this Shuʹnam·mite61 woman.” So he called her and she came in to him. Then he said: “Lift up your son.”62
  37. And she proceeded to come in and fall at his feet and bow down to him to the earth,63 after which she lifted up her son and went out.64
  38. ¶ And E·liʹsha himself returned to Gilʹgal,[e]65 and there was famine66 in the land. As the sons67 of the prophets were sitting before him,68 he in time said to his attendant:69 “Put the large cooking pot on and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.”70
  39. Accordingly a certain one went out to the field to pick mallows,71 and he got to find a wild vine and went picking wild gourds from it, his garment full, and then came and sliced them into the stewpot, for they were not acquainted with them.
  40. Later they poured it out for the men to eat. And it came about that, as soon as they ate from the stew, they themselves cried out and began saying: “There is death in the pot,72 O man of the [true] God.”73 And they were not able to eat.
  41. So he said: “FETCH, then, flour.” After he threw it into the pot, he went on to say: “Pour out for the people that they may eat.” And nothing injurious proved to be in the pot.74
  42. ¶ And there was a man that came from Baʹal-shalʹi·shah,75 and he came bringing76 to the man of the [true] God bread of the first ripe fruits,77 twenty barley loaves,78 and new grain in his bread bag. Then he said: “Give it to the people that they may eat.”79
  43. However, his waiter said: “How shall I put this before a hundred men?”80 To this he said: “Give it to the people that they may eat, for this is what Jehovah has said, ‘There will be an eating and a having of leftovers.’”[f]81
  44. At that he put it before them, and they began to eat, and they had leftovers according to the word of Jehovah.82

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
