Chapter 2 of 2 KingsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And it came about that when Jehovah was to take E·liʹjah1 in a windstorm up to the heavens,2 E·liʹjah and E·liʹsha[a]3 proceeded to go from Gilʹgal.[b]4
  2. And E·liʹjah began to say to E·liʹsha: “Sit here, please, because Jehovah himself has sent me clear to Bethʹel.” But E·liʹsha said: “As Jehovah is living5 and as your soul is living,6 I will not leave you.”7 So they went down to Bethʹel.8
  3. Then the sons of the prophets9 that were at Bethʹel came out to E·liʹsha and said to him: “Do you really know that today Jehovah is taking your master[c] from headship over you?”10 At this he said: “I, too, well know it.11 BE silent.”
  4. ¶ E·liʹjah now said to him: “E·liʹsha, sit here, please, because Jehovah himself has sent me to Jerʹi·cho.”12 But he said: “As Jehovah is living and as your soul is living, I will not leave you.” So they came on to Jerʹi·cho.
  5. Then the sons of the prophets that were at Jerʹi·cho approached E·liʹsha and said to him: “Do you really know that today Jehovah is taking your master from headship over you?” At this he said: “I, too, well know it. BE silent.”13
  6. ¶ E·liʹjah now said to him: “Sit here, please, because Jehovah himself has sent me to the Jordan.”14 But he said: “As Jehovah is living and as your soul is living, I will not leave you.”15 So both of them went on.
  7. And there were fifty men of the sons of the prophets that went and kept standing in view at a distance;16 but, as for both of them, they stood by the Jordan.
  8. Then E·liʹjah took his official garment17 and wrapped it up and struck the waters, and gradually they were divided this way and that way, so that both of them went across on the dry ground.18
  9. ¶ And it came about that as soon as they had gone across E·liʹjah himself said to E·liʹsha: “Ask what I should do for you before I am taken from you.”19 To this E·liʹsha said: “Please, that two parts20 in your spirit21 may come to me.”22
  10. At that he said: “You have asked23 a difficult thing. If you see me when taken from you, it will happen to you that way; but if [you do] not, it will not happen.”
  11. ¶ And it came about that as they were walking along, speaking as they walked, why, look! a fiery war chariot24 and fiery horses, and they proceeded to make a separation between them both; and E·liʹjah went ascending in the windstorm to the heavens.25
  12. All the while E·liʹsha was seeing it, and he was crying out: “My father, my father,26 the war chariot[d] of Israel and his horsemen!”27 And he did not see him anymore. Consequently he took hold of his own garments and ripped them into two pieces.28
  13. After that he picked up the official garment29 of E·liʹjah that had fallen off him, and went back and stood by the shore of the Jordan.
  14. Then he took the official garment of E·liʹjah that had fallen off him and struck the waters30 and said: “Where is Jehovah the God of E·liʹjah, even He?”31 When he struck the waters, then they were gradually divided this way and that way, so that E·liʹsha went across.
  15. ¶ When the sons of the prophets that were at Jerʹi·cho saw him some way off, they began to say: “The spirit32 of E·liʹjah has settled down upon E·liʹsha.” Accordingly they came to meet him and bowed down[e]33 to him to the earth.
  16. And they went on to say to him: “Here, now, there are with your servants fifty men, valiant persons. Let them go, please, and look for your master. It may be that the spirit[f]34 of Jehovah has lifted him up and then thrown him upon one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” But he said: “YOU must not send them.”
  17. And they kept urging him until he was embarrassed, so that he said: “Send.” They now sent fifty men; and they kept looking for three days, but they did not find him.
  18. When they returned to him, he was dwelling in Jerʹi·cho.35 Then he said to them: “Did I not say to YOU, ‘Do not go’?”
  19. ¶ In time the men of the city said to E·liʹsha: “Here, now, the situation of the city is good,36 just as my master is seeing; but the water37 is bad, and the land is causing miscarriages.”38
  20. At that he said: “Fetch me a small new bowl and put salt in it.” So they fetched it for him.
  21. Then he went on out to the source of the water and threw salt in it39 and said: “This is what Jehovah has said, ‘I do make this water healthful.40 No more will death or any causing of miscarriages result from it.’”
  22. And the water continues healed down to this day,41 according to E·liʹsha’s word that he spoke.
  23. ¶ And he proceeded to go up from there to Bethʹel.42 As he was going up on the way, there were small boys43 that came out from the city and began to jeer44 him and that kept saying to him: “Go up, you baldhead!45 Go up, you baldhead!”
  24. Finally he turned behind him and saw them and called down evil46 upon them in the name of Jehovah. Then two she-bears47 came out from the woods and went tearing to pieces forty-two children of their number.48
  25. And he kept going from there to Mount Carʹmel,49 and from there he returned to Sa·marʹi·a.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
