Chapter 18 of 2 KingsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ And it came about in the third year of Ho·sheʹa1 the son of Eʹlah the king of Israel that Hez·e·kiʹah2 the son of Aʹhaz3 the king of Judah became king.
  2. Twenty-five years old he happened to be when he began to reign, and for twenty-nine years he reigned in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Aʹbi[a] the daughter of Zech·a·riʹah.4
  3. And he continued to do what was right in Jehovah’s eyes,5 according to all that David his forefather had done.6
  4. He it was that removed the high places7 and broke the sacred pillars8 to pieces and cut down the sacred9 pole and crushed to pieces the copper serpent10 that Moses had made;11 for down to those days the sons of Israel had continually been making sacrificial12 smoke to it, and it used to be called the copper serpent-idol.[b]13
  5. In Jehovah the God of Israel he trusted;14 and after him there proved to be no one like him among all the kings of Judah,15 even those who had happened to be prior to him.16
  6. And he kept sticking to Jehovah.17 He did not turn aside from following him, but he continued keeping his commandments that Jehovah had commanded Moses.18
  7. And Jehovah proved to be with him.19 Wherever he would go out, he would act prudently;20 and he proceeded to rebel against the king of As·syrʹi·a and did not serve him.21
  8. It was he that struck down the Phi·lisʹtines22 clear to Gaʹza23 and also its territories, from the tower24 of the watchmen clear to the fortified city.
  9. ¶ And it came about in the fourth year of King Hez·e·kiʹah,[c] that is, the seventh year of Ho·sheʹa25 the son of Eʹlah the king of Israel, that Shal·man·eʹser26 the king of As·syrʹi·a came up against Sa·marʹi·a and began to lay siege to it.27
  10. And they got to capture it28 at the end of three years; in the sixth year of Hez·e·kiʹah, that is, the ninth year of Ho·sheʹa the king of Israel, Sa·marʹi·a was captured.29
  11. After that the king of As·syrʹi·a30 took Israel into exile31 in As·syrʹi·a and set them down in Haʹlah32 and in Haʹbor33 at the river Goʹzan34 and in the cities of the Medes,35
  12. over the fact that they had not listened36 to the voice of Jehovah their God, but kept overstepping his covenant,37 even all that Moses38 the servant of Jehovah had commanded.39 They neither listened nor performed.
  13. ¶ And in the fourteenth year of King Hez·e·kiʹah, Sen·nachʹer·ib40 the king of As·syrʹi·a41 came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and proceeded to seize them.
  14. So Hez·e·kiʹah the king of Judah sent to the king of As·syrʹi·a at Laʹchish, saying: “I have sinned. Turn back from against me. Whatever you may impose upon me I shall carry.”42 Accordingly the king of As·syrʹi·a laid upon Hez·e·kiʹah the king of Judah three hundred silver talents[d]43 and thirty gold talents.
  15. Therefore Hez·e·kiʹah gave all the silver that was to be found at the house of Jehovah44 and in the treasures of the king’s house.45
  16. At that time Hez·e·kiʹah cut off the doors of the temple[e] of Jehovah46 and the doorposts that Hez·e·kiʹah the king of Judah had overlaid47 and then gave them to the king of As·syrʹi·a.
  17. ¶ And the king of As·syrʹi·a48 proceeded to send Tarʹtan[f]49 and Rabʹsa·ris[g] and Rabʹsha·keh[h]50 from Laʹchish51 to King Hez·e·kiʹah with a heavy military force to Jerusalem, that they might go up and come to Jerusalem. So they went up and came and stood still by the conduit52 of the upper pool,53 which is at the highway of the laundryman’s field.54
  18. And they began to call out to the king, but there came out to them E·liʹa·kim55 the son of Hil·kiʹah,[i] who was over the household, and Shebʹnah56 the secretary and Joʹah the son of Aʹsaph the recorder.
  19. ¶ Accordingly Rabʹsha·keh57 said to them: “Please, say to Hez·e·kiʹah, ‘This is what the great king,58 the king of As·syrʹi·a, has said: “What is this confidence in which you have trusted?59
  20. You have said (but it is the word of lips), ‘There are counsel60 and mightiness for the war.’ Now in whom have you put your trust, that you have rebelled61 against me?
  21. Now, look! you have put your trust in the support of this crushed reed,62 Egypt,63 which, if a man should brace himself upon it, would certainly enter into his palm and pierce it. That is the way Pharʹaoh64 the king of Egypt is to all those putting their trust in him.
  22. And in case YOU men should say to me, ‘It is Jehovah65 our God in whom we have put our trust,’66 is he not the one whose high places67 and whose altars Hez·e·kiʹah68 has removed, while he says to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘Before this altar YOU should bow down in Jerusalem’?”’69
  23. Now, then, make a wager,70 please, with my lord the king of As·syrʹi·a, and let me give you two thousand horses [to see] whether you are able, on your part, to put riders upon them.71
  24. How, then, could you turn back the face of one governor of the smallest servants of my lord,72 while you, for your part, put your trust in Egypt for chariots73 and for horsemen?74
  25. Now is it without authorization from Jehovah that I have come up against this place to bring it to ruin? Jehovah himself said to me,75 ‘Go up against this land, and you must bring it to ruin.’”
  26. ¶ At this E·liʹa·kim76 the son of Hil·kiʹah and Shebʹnah77 and Joʹah78 said to Rabʹsha·keh:79 “Speak with your servants, please, in the Syrian language,[j]80 for we can listen;[k] and do not speak with us in the Jews’ language[l]81 in the ears of the people that are on the wall.”
  27. But Rabʹsha·keh said to them: “Is it to your lord and to you that my lord has sent me to speak these words? Is it not to the men sitting upon the wall, that they may eat their own excrement82 and drink their own urine with YOU men?”83
  28. ¶ And Rabʹsha·keh continued to stand and call out in a loud voice in the Jews’ language;84 and he went on to speak and say: “HEAR the word of the great king,85 the king of As·syrʹi·a.
  29. This is what the king has said, ‘Do not let Hez·e·kiʹah deceive YOU people, for he is not able to deliver YOU out of my hand.86
  30. And do not let Hez·e·kiʹah cause YOU to trust in Jehovah,87 saying: “Without fail Jehovah will deliver88 us, and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of As·syrʹi·a.”89
  31. Do not listen to Hez·e·kiʹah; for this is what the king of As·syrʹi·a has said: “Make a capitulation to me,[m] and come out to me, and eat each one from his own vine and each one from his own fig tree90 and drink each one the water of his own cistern,91
  32. until I come and I actually take YOU to a land like YOUR own land,92 a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread93 and vineyards,94 a land of oil-olive trees and honey;95 and keep living that YOU may not die. And do not listen to Hez·e·kiʹah, for he allures YOU, saying, ‘Jehovah himself will deliver us.’96
  33. Have the gods of the nations at all delivered97 each one his own land out of the hand of the king of As·syrʹi·a?98
  34. Where are the gods of Haʹmath99 and Arʹpad?100 Where are the gods of Seph·ar·vaʹim,101 Heʹna102 and Ivʹvah?103 Have they delivered Sa·marʹi·a out of my hand?104
  35. Who are there among all the gods of the lands that have delivered their land out of my hand,105 so that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?”’”106
  36. ¶ And the people kept107 silent and did not answer him108 a word, for the commandment of the king was, saying: “YOU must not answer him.”109
  37. But E·liʹa·kim110 the son of Hil·kiʹah, who was over the household, and Shebʹnah111 the secretary and Joʹah112 the son of Aʹsaph the recorder came to Hez·e·kiʹah with their garments ripped apart113 and told him the words of Rabʹsha·keh.

The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things, and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
