Chapter 17 of 2 KingsNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ In the twelfth year of Aʹhaz the king of Judah, Ho·sheʹa1 the son of Eʹlah became king in Sa·marʹi·a2 over Israel for nine years.
  2. And he continued to do what was bad in Jehovah’s eyes, only not as the kings of Israel that happened to be prior to him.3
  3. It was against him that Shal·man·eʹser4 the king of As·syrʹi·a5 came up, and Ho·sheʹa came to be his servant and began to pay tribute6 to him.
  4. However, the king of As·syrʹi·a got to find conspiracy7 in Ho·sheʹa’s case, in that he had sent messengers to So the king of Egypt8 and did not bring the tribute up to the king of As·syrʹi·a as in former years. Hence the king of As·syrʹi·a shut him up and kept him bound in the house of detention.9
  5. ¶ And the king of As·syrʹi·a proceeded to come up against all the land and to come up to Sa·marʹi·a and lay siege10 against it for three years.
  6. In the ninth year of Ho·sheʹa, the king of As·syrʹi·a captured Sa·marʹi·a11 and then led Israel into exile12 in As·syrʹi·a and kept them dwelling in Haʹlah13 and in Haʹbor at the river Goʹzan14 and in the cities of the Medes.15
  7. ¶ And it came about because the sons of Israel had sinned16 against Jehovah their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharʹaoh the king of Egypt,17 and they began to fear other gods;18
  8. and they kept walking in the statutes19 of the nations whom Jehovah had driven out from before the sons of Israel, and [in the statutes of] the kings of Israel that they had made;
  9. and the sons of Israel went searching into the things that were not right toward Jehovah their God20 and kept building themselves high places21 in all their cities, from the tower22 of the watchmen clear to the fortified city;
  10. and they kept setting up for themselves sacred pillars23 and sacred poles24 upon every high hill25 and under every luxuriant tree;26
  11. and there on all the high places they continued to make sacrificial smoke the same as the nations27 whom Jehovah had taken into exile because of them, and they kept doing bad things to offend28 Jehovah;
  12. ¶ And they continued to serve[a] dungy idols,29 concerning which Jehovah had said to them: “YOU must not do this thing”;30
  13. and Jehovah kept warning31 Israel32 and Judah33 by means of all his prophets34 [and] every visionary,35 saying: “Turn back from YOUR bad ways36 and keep my commandments,37 my statutes,38 according to all the law39 that I commanded YOUR forefathers40 and that I have sent to YOU by means of my servants the prophets”;41
  14. and they did not listen but kept hardening their necks42 like the necks of their forefathers that had not exercised faith43 in Jehovah their God;
  15. and they continued rejecting his regulations and his covenant44 that he had concluded with their forefathers and his reminders[b]45 with which he had warned them, and they went following vain idols46 and became vain47 themselves, even in imitation of the nations that were all around them, concerning whom Jehovah had commanded them not to do like them;48
  16. ¶ And they kept leaving all the commandments49 of Jehovah their God and proceeded to make for themselves molten statues,50 two calves,51 and to make a sacred pole,52 and they began to bow down to all the army of the heavens53 and to serve Baʹal;54
  17. and they continued to make their sons and their daughters pass through the fire55 and to practice divination56 and to look for omens,57 and they kept selling58 themselves to do what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah, to offend59 him;
  18. ¶ Therefore Jehovah got very incensed60 against Israel, so that he removed them from his sight.61 He did not let any remain but the tribe of Judah alone.62
  19. ¶ Even Judah itself did not keep the commandments of Jehovah their God,63 but they went walking in the statutes of Israel64 that they had made.
  20. Consequently Jehovah rejected all the seed[c]65 of Israel and kept afflicting them and giving them into the hand of pillagers, until he had cast them away from before him.66
  21. For he ripped Israel off from the house of David, and they proceeded to make Jer·o·boʹam the son of Neʹbat king; and Jer·o·boʹam67 proceeded to part Israel from following Jehovah, and he caused them to sin with a great sin.68
  22. And the sons of Israel went walking in all the sins of Jer·o·boʹam that he had done.69 They did not depart from them,
  23. until Jehovah removed Israel from his sight,70 just as he had spoken by means of all his servants the prophets.71 So Israel went off its own soil into exile in As·syrʹi·a down to this day.72
  24. ¶ Subsequently the king of As·syrʹi·a brought people from Babylon[d]73 and Cuʹthah and Avʹva74 and Haʹmath75 and Seph·ar·vaʹim76 and had them dwell in the cities of Sa·marʹi·a77 instead of the sons of Israel; and they began to take possession of Sa·marʹi·a and to dwell in its cities.
  25. And it came about at the start of their dwelling there that they did not fear78 Jehovah. Therefore Jehovah sent lions79 among them, and they came to be killers among them.
  26. So they sent word to the king of As·syrʹi·a, saying: “The nations that you have taken into exile and then settled in the cities of Sa·marʹi·a have not known the religion[e] of the God[f] of the land, so that he keeps sending lions among them;80 and, look! they are putting them to death, inasmuch as there are none knowing the religion of the God of the land.”
  27. ¶ At that the king of As·syrʹi·a commanded, saying: “Have one of the priests81 go there whom YOU led into exile from there, that he may go and dwell there and teach them the religion of the God of the land.”
  28. Accordingly one of the priests whom they had led into exile from Sa·marʹi·a came and began dwelling in Bethʹel,82 and he came to be a teacher of them as to how they ought to fear Jehovah.83
  29. ¶ However, each different nation came to be a maker of its own god,[g]84 which they then deposited in the house of the high places that the Sa·marʹi·tans[h] had made, each different nation,[i] in their cities where they were dwelling.
  30. And the men of Babylon, for their part, made Sucʹcoth-beʹnoth, and the men of Cuth,85 for their part, made Nerʹgal, and the men of Haʹmath, for their part, made A·shiʹma.
  31. As for the Avʹvites,86 they made Nibʹhaz and Tarʹtak; and the Seʹphar·vites87 were burning their sons in the fire88 to A·dramʹme·lech and A·namʹme·lech the gods of Seph·ar·vaʹim.
  32. And they came to be fearers of Jehovah and went making for themselves from the people in general priests89 of high places, and they came to be functionaries for them in the house of the high places.
  33. It was of Jehovah that they became fearers,90 but it was of their own gods that they proved to be worshipers,91 according to the religion of the nations from among whom they had led them into exile.92
  34. ¶ Down to this day they are doing according to their former religions.93 There were none fearing Jehovah94 and none doing according to his[j] statutes and his judicial decisions95 and the law96 and the commandment97 that Jehovah had commanded the sons of Jacob,98 whose name he made Israel;99
  35. when Jehovah concluded a covenant100 with them and commanded them, saying: “YOU must not fear other gods,101 and YOU must not bow down to them nor serve them[k] nor sacrifice to them.102
  36. But Jehovah, who brought YOU up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched-out arm,103 is the One whom YOU should fear,104 and to him YOU should bow down,105 and to him YOU should sacrifice.106
  37. And the regulations107 and the judicial decisions108 and the law and the commandment that he wrote for YOU,109 YOU should take care to do always;110 and YOU must not fear other gods.
  38. And the covenant that I have concluded with YOU, YOU must not forget;111 and YOU must not fear other gods.112
  39. But it is Jehovah113 YOUR God that YOU should fear, as he is the one that will deliver YOU out of the hand of all YOUR enemies.”114
  40. ¶ And they did not obey, but it was according to their former religion that they were doing.115
  41. And these nations came to be fearers of Jehovah,116 but it was their own graven images that they proved to be serving. As for both their sons and their grandsons, it was just as their forefathers had done that they themselves are doing down to this day.

    The NWT adds words to the text that are not in the greek Manuscripts to fit it's own doctrinal position for example

    Compare the wording of the NWT and the NKJV at Colossians 1:15-17

    NKJV says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

    NWT says

    15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn OF all creation;16 because by means of him all OTHER things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible,whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All OTHER things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all OTHER things,and by means of him all OTHER things were made to exist,

    The word “other” is not in the Greek but they add it Why? So they can decieve their followers into thinking that Christ was created by the Father and that he then created other things, that is not what the Greek says.

      Truth is from God and those that follow him. As for lies? John8:44

      Kiamia, I noticed you used a modern version of kjv to make your point about the nwt.

      Why didn’t you use the original kjv of col1:15?

      Is it because it disproves your point? It proves the opposite of what you wrote?

      Here is kjv col1:15 ¶” Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn OF every creature:“

      Now I appeal to your Christian nature to correct your mistake as God is watching each of us, and let us bless the God of Jesus his father.

      Kjv 1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ….

    Joshua, Jehovah’s Witnesses have never denied the deity of the Messiah in his prehuman existence. While on Earth he was fully 100% human. I do not mean he was a mere human, he was not affected by Adam’s unfaithful behavior, he was sinless.

      The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

      The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

      Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

    Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!

My boyfriend Juan Tover and I have been dating for the past 4 yrs we were to get married in September of this year but it never happened..he constantly messes around with his ex's and other females every time he got caught he apologized and tell me to forgive him and I keep taking him back because I'm truly in love with this man but after a while he started messing around again...what can I do to make this man to love me and stop the messing around so we could get married and start our family? I am very happy I contacted Priest Salami regarding my problem. My boyfriend is now my HUSBAND. We got married 2 weeks ago in the United Church in Dover. My problem was solved. I am extremely happy to put his email purenaturalhealer@gmail.com  to anyone out there looking to solve his/her relationship problem. You can also WhatsApp him with his mobile number +2348105150446
