Chapter 9 of 1 SamuelNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Now there happened to be a man of Benjamin, and his name was Kish,1 the son of A·biʹel, the son of Zeʹror, the son of Be·coʹrath, the son of A·phiʹah, a Benʹja·min·ite,[a]2 a man mighty in wealth.3
  2. And he happened to have a son whose name was Saul,4 young and handsome,[b] and there was no man of the sons of Israel that was handsomer than he; from his shoulders upward he was taller than all the people.5
  3. ¶ And the she-asses6 belonging to Kish the father of Saul got lost. So Kish said to Saul his son: “Take, please, with you one of the attendants and get up, go, look for the she-asses.”
  4. And he[c] went passing through the mountainous region of Eʹphra·im7 and passing on through the land of Shalʹi·shah,8 and they did not find [them]. And they went passing on through the land of Shaʹa·lim, but they were not [there]. And he went passing on through the land of the Benʹja·min·ites, and they did not find [them].
  5. ¶ They themselves came into the land of Zuph; and Saul, for his part, said to his attendant that was with him: “Do come, and let us return, that my father may not quit attending to the she-asses and actually become anxious about us.”9
  6. But he said to him: “Look, please! There is a man of God[d]10 in this city, and the man is held in honor. All that he says comes true without fail.11 Let us go there now. Perhaps he can tell us our way that we must go.”
  7. At this Saul said to his attendant: “And if we should go, what shall we bring to the man?12 because the bread itself has disappeared from our receptacles, and, as a gift,13 there is nothing to bring to the man of the [true] God. What is there with us?”
  8. So the attendant answered Saul once more and said: “Look! There is a quarter of a shekel[e]14 of silver found in my hand, and I shall[f] have to give it to the man of the [true] God, and he will have to tell us our way.”
  9. (In former times in Israel this was the way the man would have talked on his going to seek God: “COME, and let us go to the seer.”15 For the prophet of today used to be called a seer in former times.)
  10. Then Saul said to his attendant: “Your word is good.16 Do come, let us go.” And they went their way to the city where the man of the [true] God was.
  11. ¶ While they were going up on the ascent to the city, they themselves found girls going out to draw water.17 So they said to them: “Is the seer18 in this place?”
  12. Then they answered them and said: “He is. Look! He is ahead of you. Hurry now, because today he has come to the city, for there is a sacrifice19 today for the people on the high place.20
  13. As soon as YOU men come into the city, YOU will directly find him before he goes up to the high place to eat; because the people may not eat until his coming, for he is the one that blesses the sacrifice.21 First after that those who are invited may eat. And now GO up, because him—just now YOU will find him.”
  14. Accordingly they went on up to the city. As they were coming into the middle of the city, why, there was Samuel coming out to meet them to go up to the high place.
  15. ¶ As for Jehovah, he had uncovered the ear22 of Samuel the day before Saul came, saying:
  16. “Tomorrow about this time I shall send to you a man from the land of Benjamin,23 and you must anoint24 him as leader over my people Israel; and he must save my people from the hand of the Phi·lisʹtines,25 because I have seen [the affliction of] my people,[g] for their outcry has come to me.”26
  17. And Samuel himself saw Saul, and Jehovah, for his part, answered him: “Here is the man of whom I said to you, ‘This is the one that will keep my people within bounds.’”27
  18. ¶ Then Saul approached Samuel in the middle of the gate and said: “Do tell me, please, Just where is the house of the seer?”
  19. And Samuel proceeded to answer Saul and say: “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, and YOU men must eat with me today,28 and I must send you away in the morning, and all that is in your heart I shall tell you.29
  20. As regards the she-asses that were lost to you three days ago,30 do not set your heart31 on them, for they have been found. And to whom does all that is desirable of Israel belong?32 Is it not to you and to the whole house of your father?”
  21. At this Saul answered and said: “Am I not a Benʹja·min·ite of the smallest33 of the tribes of Israel,34 and my family the most insignificant of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin?35 So why have you spoken to me a thing like this?”36
  22. ¶ Then Samuel took Saul and his attendant and brought them to the dining hall and gave them a place at the head37 of those invited; and they were about thirty men.
  23. Later Samuel said to the cook: “Do give the portion that I have given to you, of which I said to you, ‘Put it away by you.’”
  24. At that the cook lifted off the leg and what was on it, and put it before Saul. And he went on to say: “Here is what has been reserved.[h] Put it before yourself. Eat, because to the appointed time they have reserved it for you that you may eat with those invited.”[i] So Saul ate with Samuel on that day.
  25. Subsequently they went down from the high place38 to the city, and he continued speaking with Saul on the housetop.39
  26. Then they rose early,[j] and it came about that as soon as the dawn ascended Samuel proceeded to call to Saul on the housetop, saying: “Do get up, that I may send you away.” So Saul got up and both of them, he and Samuel, went forth out of doors.
  27. While they were descending by the edge of the city Samuel himself said to Saul: “Say to the attendant40 that he should pass on ahead of us”—so he passed on—“and, as for you, stand still now that I may let you hear the word of God.”[k]

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
