Chapter 23 of 1 SamuelNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ In time they came reporting to David, saying: “Here the Phi·lisʹtines are warring against Keiʹlah,1 and they are pillaging the threshing floors.”2
  2. And David proceeded to inquire3 of Jehovah, saying: “Shall I go, and must I strike down these Phi·lisʹtines?” In turn Jehovah said to David: “Go, and you must strike down the Phi·lisʹtines and save Keiʹlah.”
  3. At this the men of David said to him: “Look! We are afraid while here in Judah,4 and how much more so in case we should go to Keiʹlah against the battle lines of the Phi·lisʹtines!”5
  4. So David inquired yet again of Jehovah.6 Jehovah now answered him and said: “Rise up, go down to Keiʹlah, because I am giving the Phi·lisʹtines into your hand.”7
  5. Accordingly David went with his men to Keiʹlah and fought against the Phi·lisʹtines and drove off with their livestock, but struck them down with a great slaughter; and David came to be the savior of the inhabitants of Keiʹlah.8
  6. ¶ Now it came about that when A·biʹa·thar9 the son of A·himʹe·lech ran away to David at Keiʹlah, there was an ephʹod10 that went down[a] in his hand.
  7. In time the report was made to Saul: “David has come to Keiʹlah.”11 And Saul began to say: “God has sold[b] him into my hand,12 for he has shut himself up by coming into a city with doors and bar.”
  8. So Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keiʹlah, to besiege David and his men.
  9. And David got to know that Saul was fabricating mischief13 against him. Hence he said to A·biʹa·thar the priest: “Do bring the ephʹod near.”14
  10. And David went on to say: “O Jehovah the God of Israel,15 your servant has definitely heard that Saul is seeking to come to Keiʹlah to lay the city in ruin on my account.16
  11. Will the landowners[c] of Keiʹlah surrender me into his hand? Will Saul come down just as your servant has heard? O Jehovah the God of Israel, tell your servant, please.” To this Jehovah said: “He will come down.”17
  12. And David went on to say: “Will the landowners of Keiʹlah surrender me and my men into Saul’s hand?” In turn Jehovah said: “They will do the surrendering.”18
  13. ¶ At once David rose up with his men, about six[d] hundred men,19 and they went out of Keiʹlah and continued walking about wherever they could walk about. And to Saul it was reported that David had escaped from Keiʹlah, and so he gave up going out.
  14. And David took up dwelling in the wilderness in places difficult to approach, and he kept dwelling in the mountainous region in the wilderness of Ziph.20 And Saul kept looking for him always,21 and God[e] did not give him into his hand.22
  15. And David continued in fear[f] because Saul had gone out to look for his soul while David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Hoʹresh.[g]23
  16. ¶ Jonʹa·than the son of Saul now rose up and went to David at Hoʹresh, that he might strengthen24 his hand in regard to God.25
  17. And he went on to say to him: “Do not be afraid;26 for the hand of Saul my father will not find you, and you yourself will be king27 over Israel, and I myself shall become second to you; and Saul my father also has knowledge to that effect.”28
  18. Then the two of them concluded a covenant29 before Jehovah; and David kept dwelling in Hoʹresh, and Jonʹa·than himself went to his own home.
  19. ¶ Later the men of Ziph[h]30 went up to Saul at Gibʹe·ah,31 saying: “Is not David concealing32 himself close by us in the places difficult to approach at Hoʹresh,33 on the hill of Hach·iʹlah,34 which is to the right side of Je·shiʹmon?[i]35
  20. And now in harmony with all the craving of your soul,36 O king, to come down, come down, and our part will be to surrender him into the hand of the king.”37
  21. At this Saul said: “Blessed are YOU of Jehovah,38 for YOU have had compassion on me.
  22. Go, please, persevere some more and ascertain and see his place where his foot comes to be—whoever saw him there—for it has been said to me that he himself is surely cunning.39
  23. And see and ascertain about all the hiding places where he hides himself; and YOU must return to me with the evidence,[j] and I will go with YOU; and it must occur that, if he is in the land, I will also search for him carefully among all the thousands[k]40 of Judah.”
  24. ¶ So they rose up and went to Ziph41 ahead of Saul, while David and his men were in the wilderness of Maʹon42 in the Arʹa·bah[l]43 to the south[m] of Je·shiʹmon.
  25. Later Saul came with his men to look for him.44 When they told David, he at once went down to the crag45 and continued dwelling[n] in the wilderness of Maʹon. When Saul got to hear of it, he went chasing46 after David into the wilderness of Maʹon.
  26. Eventually Saul came to this side of the mountain, and David and his men were on that side of the mountain. So David became hurried to go away47 because of Saul; all the while Saul and his men were closing in on David and his men to grab hold of them.48
  27. But there was a messenger that came to Saul, saying: “Do hasten and go, for the Phi·lisʹtines have made a raid on the land!”
  28. At that Saul turned back from chasing after David49 and went to meet the Phi·lisʹtines. That is why they have called that place the Crag of the Divisions.[o]
  29. [p] Then David made his way up from there and took up dwelling in the places difficult to approach at En-geʹdi.50

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
