  1. ¶ And Hanʹnah went on to pray1 and say:
    ¶ “My heart does exult in Jehovah,2
    ¶ My horn is indeed exalted in Jehovah.[a]3
    ¶ My mouth is widened against my enemies,
    ¶ For I do rejoice in the salvation from you.4
  2. ¶ There is no one holy like Jehovah, for there is no one but you;5
      And there is no rock like our God.[b]6
  3. ¶ Do not YOU people speak very haughtily so much,
      Let nothing go forth unrestrained from YOUR mouth,7
    ¶ For a God[c] of knowledge Jehovah is,8
      And by him[d] deeds are rightly estimated.9
  4. ¶ The mighty men of the bow are[e] filled with terror,10
      But those that are stumbling[f] do gird on vital energy.11
  5. ¶ The satisfied must hire themselves out for bread,12
      But the hungry actually cease [to hunger].13
    ¶ Even[g] the barren has given birth to seven,14
      But she that was abundant in sons has faded away.15
  6. ¶ Jehovah is a Killer and a Preserver of life,[h]16
      A Bringer down to Sheʹol,[i]17 and He brings up.18
  7. ¶ Jehovah is an Impoverisher19 and an Enricher,20
      An Abaser, also an Exalter,21
  8. ¶ A Raiser of a lowly one from the dust;22
      From the ashpit he lifts up a poor one,23
      To make them sit with nobles; and a throne of glory24 he gives to them as a possession.25
    ¶ For to Jehovah belong earth’s supports,26
      And he places upon them the productive land.[j]
  9. ¶ The feet of his loyal ones[k] he guards;27
      As for the wicked ones, they are silenced in darkness,28
      For not by power does a man[l] prove superior.29
  10. ¶ As for Jehovah, those contending against him will be terrified;30
      Against them[m] he will thunder in the heavens.31
      Jehovah himself will judge the ends of the earth,32
    ¶ That he may give strength to his king,33
      That he may exalt the horn of his anointed one.”[n]34
  11. ¶ Then El·kaʹnah went to Raʹmah to his house;[o] and as for the boy, he became a minister[p]35 of Jehovah before Eʹli the priest.
  12. ¶ Now the sons of Eʹli were good-for-nothing men;[q]36 they did not acknowledge Jehovah.37
  13. As for the due right of the priests from[r] the people,[s]38 whenever any man was offering a sacrifice, an attendant of the priest came with the three-pronged fork in his hand, just when the meat was boiling,39
  14. and made a thrust into the basin or the two-handled cooking pot or the caldron or the one-handled cooking pot. Anything that the fork might bring up the priest would take for himself.[t] That is the way they would do in Shiʹloh to all the Israelites coming there.[u]40
  15. Also, before ever they could make the fat smoke,41 an attendant of the priest came and said to the man sacrificing: “Do give meat to roast for the priest so that he may receive from you, not boiled meat, but raw.”42
  16. When the man would say to him: “Let them be sure to make the fat smoke first of all.43 Then take for yourself just whatever your soul may crave,”44 he actually said: “No,[v] but you should give it now; and, if not, I shall have to take it by force!”45
  17. And the sin of the attendants[w] came to be very great before Jehovah;46 for the men treated the offering of Jehovah with disrespect.47
  18. ¶ And Samuel was ministering48 before Jehovah, as a boy, having a linen ephʹod girded on.49
  19. Also, a little sleeveless coat his mother would make for him, and she brought it up to him from year to year when she came up with her husband to sacrifice the yearly sacrifice.50
  20. And Eʹli blessed51 El·kaʹnah and his wife and said: “May Jehovah appoint to you an offspring from this wife in place of the thing lent, that was lent to Jehovah.”[x]52 And they went to their place.[y]
  21. Accordingly Jehovah turned his attention to Hanʹnah,53 so that she had pregnancy and gave birth[z] to three sons and two daughters.54 And the boy Samuel continued growing up with Jehovah.55
  22. ¶ And Eʹli was very old, and he had heard56 of all that his sons kept doing57 to all Israel and how they would lie down with the women58 that were serving[aa] at the entrance of the tent of meeting.[ab]59
  23. And he used to say to them:60 “Why do YOU keep doing things like these?61 For the things I am hearing about YOU from all the people are bad.[ac]62
  24. No,63 my sons, because the report is not good that I am hearing, that the people of Jehovah are causing to circulate.64
  25. If a man should sin against a man,65 God will arbitrate for him;66 but if it is against Jehovah that a man should sin,67 who is there to pray for him?”68 But they would not listen to the voice of their father,69 because Jehovah was now pleased to put them to death.70
  26. All the while the boy Samuel was growing bigger and more likable[ad] both from Jehovah’s standpoint and from that of men.71
  27. ¶ And a man of God[ae]72 proceeded to come to Eʹli and say to him: “This is what Jehovah has said, ‘Did I not for a fact reveal myself to the house of your forefather while they happened to be in Egypt as slaves[af] to the house of Pharʹaoh?73
  28. And there was a choosing[ag] of him out of all the tribes of Israel for me,74 to act as priest[ah] and go up upon my altar75 to make sacrificial smoke billow up,[ai] to bear an ephʹod before me, that I might give to the house of your forefather all the offerings made by fire of the sons of Israel.76
  29. Why do YOU men keep kicking at my sacrifice77 and at my offering that I have commanded [in my] dwelling,[aj]78 and you keep honoring your sons more than me by fattening yourselves[ak]79 from the best of every offering of Israel my people?[al]80
  30. ¶ “‘That is why the utterance of Jehovah the God of Israel is: “I did indeed say, As for your house and the house of your forefather, they will walk before me to time indefinite.”81 But now the utterance of Jehovah is: “It is unthinkable, on my part, because those honoring me82 I shall honor,83 and those despising me will be of little account.”84
  31. Look! Days are coming when I shall certainly chop off your arm and the arm of the house of your forefather, so that there will not come to be an old man in your house.85
  32. And you will actually look upon an adversary [in my] dwelling amid all the good that is done to Israel;86 and never will there come to be an old man in your house.
  33. And yet there is a man of yours that I shall not cut off from being at my altar so as to cause your[am] eyes to fail and to make your[an] soul pine away; but the greater number of your house will all die by the sword of men.[ao]87
  34. And this is the sign for you that will come to your two sons, Hophʹni and Phinʹe·has:88 On one day both of them will die.89
  35. And I shall certainly raise up for myself a faithful priest.90 In harmony with what is in my heart and in my soul he will do; and I shall certainly build for him a lasting[ap] house, and he will certainly walk before my anointed91 one[aq] always.[ar]
  36. And it must occur that anyone left over92 in your house will come and bow down to him for the payment of money and a round loaf of bread, and will certainly say: “Attach me, please, to one of the priestly offices to eat a piece of bread.”’”93

    When i do read some comments and seeing that its the same people that are supposed to be called believers but are talking ill of other denominations, it hurts. Let us all remember that We should judge not

    Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

    As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
    New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

    In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
    "There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
    And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
    "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

      Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

      As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

      Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

      Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

      Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

      I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

      I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

      What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

      We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

      Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

      Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
