Chapter 19 of 1 SamuelNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ At length Saul spoke to Jonʹa·than[a] his son and to all his servants of putting David to death.1
  2. As for Jonʹa·than, Saul’s son, he took great delight in David.2 So Jonʹa·than told David, saying: “Saul my father is seeking to have you put to death. And now be on your guard, please, in the morning, and you must dwell in secrecy and keep yourself hidden.3
  3. And I, for my part, shall go out and certainly stand at the side of my father in the field where you will be, and I myself shall speak for you to my father, and I shall certainly see what will happen, and I shall be sure to tell you.”4
  4. ¶ Accordingly Jonʹa·than spoke well5 of David to Saul his father and said to him: “Do not let the king sin6 against his servant David, for he has not sinned toward you and his works have been very good toward you.7
  5. And he proceeded to put his soul in his palm8 and strike the Phi·lisʹtine down,9 so that Jehovah performed a great salvation[b]10 for all Israel. You saw it, and you gave way to rejoicing. So why should you sin against innocent blood in having David put to death11 for nothing?”12
  6. Then Saul obeyed the voice of Jonʹa·than, and Saul swore: “As Jehovah is living,13 he will not be put to death.”
  7. Afterward Jonʹa·than called David and Jonʹa·than told him all these words. Then Jonʹa·than brought David to Saul, and he continued before him the same as formerly.14
  8. ¶ In time war broke out again and David went sallying forth and fighting against the Phi·lisʹtines and striking them down with a great slaughter,15 and they took to flight from before him.16
  9. ¶ And Jehovah’s[c] bad spirit17 came to be upon Saul when he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand, while David was playing music with his hand.
  10. Consequently Saul sought to pin David to the wall18 with the spear, but he dodged19 from before Saul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And David himself fled that he might escape during that night.20
  11. Later Saul sent messengers21 to David’s house to watch it and to have him put to death in the morning;22 but Miʹchal his wife told David, saying: “If you are not letting your soul escape tonight, tomorrow you will be a man put to death.”
  12. Immediately Miʹchal had David descend through the window, that he might go and run away and escape.23
  13. Then Miʹchal took the teraphim24 image and placed it on the couch, and a net[d] of goats’ hair she put at the place of his head, after which she covered it with a garment.
  14. ¶ Saul now sent messengers to take David, but she said: “He is sick.”25
  15. So Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying: “Bring him on his couch up to me to have him put to death.”26
  16. When the messengers came in, why, there was the teraphim image on the couch and a net of goats’ hair at the place of his head.
  17. At this Saul said to Miʹchal: “Why did you trick27 me like this, so that you sent my enemy28 away that he might escape?” In turn Miʹchal said to Saul: “He himself said to me, ‘Send me away! Why should I put you to death?’”[e]
  18. ¶ As for David, he ran away and made his escape29 and got to come to Samuel at Raʹmah.30 And he proceeded to tell him all that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went away, and they took up dwelling in Naiʹoth.31
  19. In time the report got to Saul, saying: “Look! David is in Naiʹoth in Raʹmah.”
  20. At once Saul sent messengers to take David. When they got to see the elderly ones[f] of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing in his position over them, the spirit32 of God came to be upon Saul’s messengers, and they began behaving like prophets,33 they also.
  21. ¶ When they told it to Saul, he immediately sent other messengers, and they began behaving like prophets, they also. So Saul sent messengers again, the third set, and they began behaving like prophets, they also.
  22. Finally he too went to Raʹmah. When he got as far as the great cistern that is in Seʹcu,[g] he began to inquire and say: “Where are Samuel and David?” To this they said: “There in Naiʹoth34 in Raʹmah.”
  23. And he kept on his way from there to Naiʹoth in Raʹmah, and the spirit35 of God came to be upon him, yes, him, and he went on walking and continued behaving like a prophet until he came into Naiʹoth in Raʹmah.
  24. And he also proceeded to strip off his garments and behave, he also, like a prophet before Samuel, and he lay fallen naked[h] all that day and all that night.36 That is why they came to say: “Is Saul also among the prophets?”37

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.
