Chapter 16 of 1 SamuelNew World Translation (NWT)

  1. ¶ Eventually Jehovah said to Samuel: “For how long will you be mourning for Saul,1 while I, on the other hand, have rejected him from ruling as king over Israel?2 Fill your horn with oil3 and go. I shall send you to Jesʹse4 the Bethʹle·hem·ite, because I have provided among his sons a king for myself.”5
  2. But Samuel said: “How can I go? Once Saul has heard of it he will certainly kill me.”6 And Jehovah went on to say: “A young cow of the herd you should take with you,[a] and you must say, ‘To sacrifice to Jehovah is why I have come.’7
  3. And you must call Jesʹse to the sacrifice; and I, for my part, shall make known to you what you should do,8 and you must anoint9 for me the one whom I designate to you.”
  4. ¶ And Samuel proceeded to do what Jehovah spoke. When he came to Bethʹle·hem10 the older men of the city began to tremble11 at meeting him, and so they said: “Does your coming mean peace?”12
  5. To this he said: “It means peace. To sacrifice to Jehovah is why I have come. Sanctify13 yourselves, and YOU must come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he sanctified Jesʹse and his sons, after which he called them to the sacrifice.
  6. And it came about that, as they came in and he caught sight of E·liʹab,14 he at once said: “Surely his anointed one[b] is before Jehovah.”
  7. But Jehovah said to Samuel: “Do not look at his appearance and at the height of his stature,15 for I have rejected him. For not the way man sees [is the way God sees],[c]16 because mere man sees what appears to the eyes;[d]17 but as for Jehovah, he sees what the heart18 is.”[e]
  8. Then Jesʹse called A·binʹa·dab19 and had him pass before Samuel, but he said: “Neither has Jehovah chosen this one.”
  9. Next Jesʹse had Shamʹmah20 pass by, but he said: “Neither has Jehovah chosen this one.”
  10. So Jesʹse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel; still Samuel said to Jesʹse: “Jehovah has not chosen these.”
  11. ¶ Finally Samuel said to Jesʹse: “Are these all the boys?” To this he said: “The youngest one has till now been left out,21 and, look! he is pasturing the sheep.”22 At that Samuel said to Jesʹse: “Do send and fetch him, because we shall not sit down to meal until his coming here.”
  12. Accordingly he sent and had him come. Now he was ruddy,23 a young man with[f] beautiful eyes and handsome in appearance. Then Jehovah said: “Get up, anoint him, for this is he!”24
  13. Accordingly Samuel took the horn of oil25 and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the spirit of Jehovah began to be operative upon David from that day forward.26 Later Samuel rose and went his way to Raʹmah.27
  14. ¶ And the very spirit of Jehovah departed28 from Saul, and a bad spirit29 from Jehovah terrorized him.
  15. And the servants of Saul began to say to him: “Here, now, God’s[g] bad spirit is terrorizing you.
  16. Let our lord, please, command your servants before you that they should look for a skilled man30 playing upon the harp.31 And it must occur that, when God’s bad spirit comes to be upon you, he will have to play with his hand, and it will certainly be well with you.”
  17. So Saul said to his servants: “Provide me, please, a man doing well at playing, and YOU must bring him to me.”32
  18. ¶ And one of the attendants proceeded to answer and say: “Look! I have seen how a son of Jesʹse the Bethʹle·hem·ite is skilled at playing,33 and he is a valiant, mighty man34 and a man of war35 and an intelligent speaker36 and a well-formed man,37 and Jehovah is with him.”38
  19. Then Saul sent messengers to Jesʹse and said: “Do send to me David your son, who is with the flock.”39
  20. So Jesʹse took an ass, bread and a skin bottle40 of wine and a kid of the goats and sent them by the hand of David his son to Saul.41
  21. Thus David came to Saul and attended upon him;[h]42 and he got to loving him very much, and he came to be his armor-bearer.43
  22. Consequently Saul sent to Jesʹse, saying: “Let David, please, keep attending upon me, for he has found favor in my eyes.”
  23. And it occurred that, when God’s spirit came to be upon Saul, David took the harp and played with his hand; and there was relief for Saul and it was well with him, and the bad spirit departed from upon him.44

The bible tells us to test the spirits. Satan disguises himself as angel of light. So yes some denomination are not teaching the truth. You are responsible for judging which ones are not. You have to judge the truth at all times. this is what the bible teaches

The NWT is a very good translation. Dr. Jason David BeDuhn PhD attests to that in his book Truth in Translation. drive.google.com/...5p16melHzg8/view

The NWT is Satanic filth to its very core.

The JW Cult is Satanic to its very core.

Praise Yahweh I will never be a victim of JW brainwashing. If I burn in Hell for eternity or I am ultimately annihilated so be it

May Yahweh's curse rest on the Watchtower Society and its Satanic leadership

NWT is a false translation that takes away from the deity of Jesus !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this service. I like seeing the NASB on your web page in the same format as I read on paper. On other sites, the text area is smaller, and so I have to keep scrolling down to read and sometimes I lose the context. So I really appreciate the format.

As far as the NWT, you are certainly free to do whatever you think best with your own web pages. I'd suggest that you make a note anytime you have a translation that is associated with only one denomination or church, for example:
New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness version).

In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares. the main idea seems to be that you can't easily distinguish between God's people and not-God's people on this earth, so our Lord's response is to wait until they are shown to be the kind of people they are inside. But the NWT seems like false teaching to me. So I think the warning passages from Jesus' apostles are more applicable, as in 2 Peter 3:15-16, when he talks about Paul's writings:
"There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures."
And we also have the positive exhortations, as in 2 Timothy 2:15:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Your suggestion regarding the denominational flagging is duly noted. But I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a Catholic also want “Protestant versions” marked as well?

As for the parable, I’m pretty sure the slaves were convinced in their own minds that they could tell the tares from the wheat. After all, aren’t they the ones who identified the problem in the first place? But the master obviously thought otherwise.

Furthermore, even at the time when Jesus himself was walking the earth, not everybody who claimed fellowship actually followed him causing John to inquire at Mark 9:39, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him . . . for he who is not against us is for us.”

Hello, question.. why have you included the NWT with other legitimate bible translations? Or why have you not atleast included a warning to readers? Don't you fear that someone could be influenced by the Watchtower's intentional heresies? Thank you.

Please site these intentional heresies. I am well versed in the watch tower outline and agree they are in many ways incorrect but i also bet i can point many out from EVERY established or main denomination. There is much to learn from them all as one who drinks milk?

Judge not lest ye be judged, that is not to pass judgement on you either brother.

I debate with scripture. I don't hold it to be true that Michael is Y'Shua HaMeshiach but I also firmly hold it to be true that our G-d and Heavenly Father are not the word encarnate and only begotten son.

I love not seeing "lord" which i relate to baal. I feel the catholic church is a satanic establishment and I am aware a freemason started the hovies but there are evil in high places and our fight is also with principalities.

What i'm saying is that in my darkest hours, those two were some of if not the only ones who would bring a Bible and eucharist and pray with me.

We all fall short of the glory of G-d.

Don't forget the NWT was recognized as the most accurate translation on Jeopardy.

Lastly, this is different I noted than the NWT i have read and am very familiar with. Pull up the watchtower page and compare. I truly look forward to getting this one!
